How to Pronounce this Name?

I’m due a second baby boy in [name_f]April[/name_f] and have seen the Turkish name Emre on a different forum. The user there (whose husband is Turkish) said it was pronounced ‘[name_f]Em[/name_f]-ray’. However, having looked at some baby name sites, the pronunciation given is either ‘[name_f]Em[/name_f]-ruh’ or ‘[name_f]Em[/name_f]-reh’.

I really like the pronunciation ‘[name_f]Em[/name_f]-ray’ and it’s one of the few names both my husband and I agree on this time round. I don’t like the other pronunciation but don’t want to choose a ‘foreign’ name for our baby only to mispronounce it!

So, can anyone confirm how to say Emre for me? I’ve been searching and searching for other names but almost everything I come up with is immediately vetoed by my husband (except [name_m]Ezra[/name_m], which we both love but is both the name of a friend’s baby and seems to be massively gaining in popularity).

At first sight, I’d say [name_f]Em[/name_f]-ray.

I too would say [name_f]EM[/name_f]-ray upon first instinct, but don’t take that to mean anything - I cannot do pronunciations! I usually check the comments section of behindthename.com - it says [name_f]EM[/name_f]-re (‘e’ as in bet, apparently), so I would think that that would be right.

[name_f]EM[/name_f]-re(e)

P.S. “[name_m]Friend[/name_m]” is such a nice meaning.

Thanks for the replies.

It’s not looking good, then. I guess I keep searching!
