How to spell Muma?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] There,

This forum says it’s for moms but I hope dads are allowed too!

I have searched the internet but cannot find an answer to a question I have. What is the proper way to spell the word pronounced “muma”? I have two young children, and whenever I’ve helped them write out cards to my wife I have had them spell it “mama”. I’ve always realized that the spelling didn’t seem right, but “muma” looks funny to me.

I know we aren’t the only family where the children call their mom “muma”. To be clear, I am implying that “mama” should should rhyme with “[name_m]Obama[/name_m]”. The way my kids address their mother is like the British “mum” with a short a added at the end. What do your young kids say and how do you spell it?

Mumma? I agree with you, Muma looks weird, like it should be said MOO-muh, rhyming with “puma”.

I would also spell it Mumma instead of Mama/Muma.

I’ve always spelt it Mama. I’m in NZ though.

I’m Australian, and spell it Mama.

Mumma, mama, mamma, momma… they are all acceptable and considered correct. There’s do many varieties of motherly titles that I don’t think it really matters. [name_m]Just[/name_m] do what your kids like. And if it’s not technically right, then it’s cute and personalised!

PS. personally “mumma” is my go to, and I’m Australian.

I think Mumma fits best. That’d be what I’d go for.

I’m in Australia and I text my mum, saying: Mumma bear :stuck_out_tongue:
