[name_m]Hi[/name_m]!
Still really dislike my first name, but my middle name has really been growing on me. It’s a little old fashioned but in my view, quite pretty and certainly suits my personality more than my first name does. I’d really like to know however, how do I start going by it?
Also, I talked to my mom a while back and while she threw a tantrum at the possibility of me changing my name, she said I could either use my first name or my middle name. (I bet she never thought for a second I’d ever seriously consider going by my middle name 
)
But now, here I am!
So, how do I start using it?

- Get used to calling yourself the new name first - refer to yourself as the name, so it feels more natural when said out loud. Maybe order a drink/food under the name or go into a situation where you need to introduce yourself and use it for the first time!
- Maybe talk to close friends first and explain you’re going to be using the middle - ask them to start calling you it - it may then catch on with others around you
- Change your name on any social media etc - maybe make an announcement of the change
- If you’re in group chats etc - drop a line to say you’ll be going by your middle from now on
- If you want it more official, speak to admin at school and/or work, so your name (or preferred name) can be changed on the system

I’d probably tell my friends sooner, but might wait until College to start properly using it (I’m a high school senior now), so it isn’t that long of a wait! Thanks

Grace’s whole list is brilliant, so all I want to add is… when strangers ask your name or you meet someone new, introduce yourself as your middle name. I think college will be such a help with this—you’ll be meeting new people and talking to them on a regular basis!
Ordering drinks and food with your middle’s brilliant. Especially, I think, at a place where they’ll have to call back your name to let you know your order’s ready. Excellent exposure these!
Plus, if you’re a regular NB user… you can start going by your middle name on here.

Thank you!! That’s a great idea. So people wouldn’t care that it’s not your first name you’re using then?
On my normal account I go by what I would use if I ultimately got to pick for myself 
that could be a good idea though!
I would tell the school or business which I attended. Tell teachers, bosses, peers, coworkers.
I don’t use social media, but you could announce it there too.
Also email or text all your people.
