We have two girls on the way and my mom’s name is [name]Frederique[/name]. Is it as awful as all the faces people make when I say it? I thought [name]Fredi[/name] [name]Jane[/name] was kind of cute.
Thoughts?

I’m sorry…it’s just so masculine. I can’t get onboard.
I don’t like it; sorry. You could name her [name]Francesca[/name] and call her [name]Frankie[/name]. Or you could just name her [name]Freddie[/name] [name]Jane[/name]. But you would have to call her [name]Freddie[/name] [name]Jane[/name] so that people would know she’s a girl when they read it.
I don’t think it’s ugly, but if you want something more feminine, what about [name]Frederika[/name]?I think [name]Fredi[/name] or [name]Freddie[/name] as a nickname for a girl is cute.
I don’t find anything wrong with the name. It is a very strong name. You could always give it as a middle name. [name]Frederique[/name] has a certain quality to it, but I do think it would probably take most some time to get used to the idea, but it has a certain spunk to it.
I love the idea of passing on family names. My entire name from beginning to end is named after someone in mine.
I love the name [name]Frederica[/name]. Also, [name]Francesca[/name].
[name]Freddy[/name] sounds very spunky, like a girl with red pigtails and freckles. I do prefer [name]Frederika[/name] over [name]Frederique[/name], however. The final “a” gives it a nice dose of femeninity.
Second thoughts…
[name]Winifred[/name] nn [name]Freddie[/name]
My face screws up as well… I can’t see it, at all. [name]How[/name] about [name]Ricci[/name]?
I don’t see a problem with it per se, but one thing to keep in mind is whether your daughter will be okay with it. Although it might sound perfectly nice to you, will she enjoy introducing herself as [name]Frederique[/name]? On the other hand, there’s nothing in the world to keep you from using it as a middle name”
mmm i don’t think it’s too horrible. thoughts on Fredrica?

[name]Frieda[/name] was originally a short form of names starting with [name]Fried[/name]/[name]Fred[/name]. I think that would be a lovely way to honor your mother. Or it could be a nn.
[name]Do[/name] YOU think it sounds ugly, or are you just worried that others will? You could always use [name]Frederique[/name], [name]Frederica[/name], or [name]Frieda[/name] as a middle name for your daughter, and you could still call her [name]Freddie[/name]. I don’t personally think [name]Freddie[/name] is as accessible a “male” nickname for girls as maybe [name]Charlie[/name] is, but it could work for the right kind of girl. I also loved the suggestion of [name]Francesca[/name] “[name]Frankie[/name],” as it is slightly more feminine in my opinion…

I don’t think [name]Frederique[/name] sounds ugly at all. I like the way it sounds in an American/English or French accent. I would say it’s a handsome name, but I don’t find it masculine. I think it’s elegant in a strong way. I knew a beautiful French-Canadian girl named [name]Frederique[/name]. She went by [name]Fred[/name], which seemed to suit her in an ironic way.
If I were going to use [name]Frederique[/name] as a first name and [name]Jane[/name] as a middle name, I might add a second middle name between the two for flow. I think [name]Freddie[/name] or [name]Freddy[/name] would be cute on a girl. I also think [name]Frederika[/name], [name]Frederica[/name], or Frederikke (Pronounced: [name]Frederika[/name], nickname: Rikke ([name]REE[/name]-ka)- I’ve noticed this name is somewhat common in the Scandinavian countries.) is lovely.
Good luck! : )
Thanks everyone!
Its a very strong/masculine sounding name. Its no diff in sound than [name]Monique[/name]/Shanique etc. What about [name]Freddie[/name] & [name]Ricki[/name] for the twins?
I don’t mind [name]Frederique[/name], but I would prefer something that is a touch more feminine. [name]Freda[/name] [name]Jane[/name] ([name]FREE[/name]-da or FRAY-da) would be really lovely, and some of the other suggestions mentioned are quite nice.
