How uncommon/common is having two middle names?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] guys!

I am a transgender male, who is going to change his name legally soon. My first chosen name is [name_u]Theo[/name_u], short for [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], and I have two top picks for middle names - [name_m]Marcus[/name_m] and/or [name_m]Roman[/name_m].

I cannot choose which, and that’s why I was wondering if it’s uncommon or common to have 2 middle names? I don’t want to stand out too much.

I’m not sure of any statistics or anything, but I think it just depends on your culture or circle. My dad doesn’t have a middle name, along with his parents and siblings. My mom and her brother have one middle name each, plus are Catholic, so they ‘have’ another middle name (unofficial…their Confirmation name). My siblings and I each have one middle name. That’s just how I always thought it was…unless you were royalty. Then I met my husband, and realized people had different traditions. He has two middles, as does his brother. His younger brother, however, has so many middle names that their mom doesn’t even know how many there are…I think it is around 8. [name_m]Way[/name_m] overboard. I think that 2 is okay, but that’s definitely my limit!

Short answer: you’d be fine with 2 middles! [name_m]Even[/name_m] if it isn’t common where you are from, it isn’t some bizarre occurrence.

I think two middles is less common, but certainly not unheard of. It does create some minor headaches with paperwork. For example, your passport, license, and ss card need to match exactly especially when traveling. Otherwise, it is really no big deal either way. It would not be unheard of or strange though.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] what works best for you. If all three of the names have some real meaning to you, I’d use them.

It’s decently common where Im from. My brother has two.

I actually know quite a few people with two middle names! I only have one and was always jealous of my friends with 2, so if I ever have children I plan on giving them multiple middles.

In my country, we automatically get our mother’s maiden name as our middle name. Like mine, [name_f]Paola[/name_f] [name_f]Dannielle[/name_f], [name_f]Dannielle[/name_f] would just be my second name. I guess I’m just saying it’s not unusual here to have a long name.

And I agree with Revlon, it’s whatever works best for you, considering the paperworks.

[name_m]Marcus[/name_m] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] are lovely names.
