I’ve met three or four Elsas in my life. I think it is a nice name. As you mentioned, there are many [name_f]Disney[/name_f] characters whose names are very popular around the world (Aurora, [name_f]Ariel[/name_f], [name_m]Philip[/name_m], [name_f]Tiana[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_m]Eric[/name_m], [name_f]Belle[/name_f], etc.). I believe [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] is still usable nowadays. It’s not an extremely popular name, but it is familiar and international. The connection with the Frozen character is not a bad aspect, in my opinion. It’s a princess, not a villain. Considering that, I believe [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] is a great choice for a girl! The name is warm, bright and energetic.
I think [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] is very useable! I live in [name_m]Sweden[/name_m], and [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] is one of the most popular names among children. I’ve grown up knowing several, my best friend included. In my choir group there were five of them. I’ve always had at least one in my class. Here in [name_m]Sweden[/name_m] [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] is far from taboo, no one immediately makes the frozen connection. I think it’s fine in other countries aswell since it’s a well established name with lots of history beyond the movie.
I think [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] is usable bu that is due to being introduced to the name way before Frozen [name_f][/name_f]-
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Elsa[/name_f] Einstein (Second wife of [name_m]Albert[/name_m] Einstein)
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Elsa[/name_f] [name_m]Lanchester[/name_m] (Actress in the 30s-50s with some notable movies)
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Elsa[/name_f] Patacky (Chris Hemsworth wife & she was in Fast and the [name_m]Furious[/name_m] movies before Frozen)
[name_f]Elsa[/name_f] is a well-established name, and has been since long before the Frozen[name_f][/name_f] franchise came about. [name_f][/name_f] Also, it is a meaningful name in so many family trees. [name_f][/name_f] I think [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] is plenty usable even with the popularity of the franchise… a question or two may pop up here and there, but they can easily and quickly be dispelled.
[name_f][/name_f]I do have to wonder what we grasp on to some names in the cinematic world of [name_f]Disney[/name_f] (as well as the rest of the book, movie and TV world) and completely bypass others?
I’m glad you think so! [name_f][/name_f] I’m not sure I love [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] enough to use her as a first name, especially since I’ve loved [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] so much longer. [name_f][/name_f] I do like her a lot, though, and have been considering [name_f]Juniper[/name_f] Elsa… and was just wondering why she seems to be so taboo in the states!
[name_f][/name_f][name_f][/name_f]That’s a fair point, and maybe why it feels so usable to me, too. [name_f][/name_f] I wonder if others didn’t have something beyond Frozen to ground [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]?
[name_f][/name_f][name_f][/name_f]This is a good point as well! [name_f][/name_f] I have lots of family roots in [name_m]Germany[/name_m], surely there’s an [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] somewhere in my family tree! [name_f][/name_f] I’ll have to check haha. [name_f][/name_f] I know there are Anna’s and Katharina’s and Magdalena’s… but surely there had to be an [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] in there somewhere!
