About three months ago my Sister in law, found out that she is expecting her first child.
She doesn’t know the sex of the baby yet.
Anyway,
the other day she called me to ask me my thoughts on [name]Poet[/name] as a middle name. She would only use [name]Poet[/name] as a middle name for a girl.
I kinda like it but I’m still not sure, I haven’t thought about it that much. [name]Do[/name] you think that [name]Poet[/name] is unusable?
Please let me know. And please suggest some first names!
I think it’s very sweet in the middle name spot for a boy or a girl. The middle is an area where we can express our creativity or perhaps pay homage to a certain interest or person without worrying too much whether or not the name is actually usable because most people are never going to know the middle name. I say she should feel free to use whatever she wants.
[name]Just[/name] like earls don’t name their sons [name]Earl[/name], poets would never actually name their child [name]Poet[/name]. To me it’s a bit gauche, sorry.
My thoughts exactly. As far as middle names go, it’s fine. Not my personal taste, but still, it’s a real word and not weird. But if it turns out her child hates poetry, what then? This is why I don’t like aspiration names and professional names. It seems if you name your child [name]Painter[/name] you’re pushing him to become one from the time he’s born, and if he doesn’t like it his own name becomes awkward to have.
I like the name [name]Poet[/name] but only as a middle name. To me it just wouldnt be right to have it as a first name. As some previous posters have mentioned, its a bit like pushing a career choice onto a child.
It’s not my style at all but as occupational names seem to be all the rage, I don’t see why [name]Poet[/name] would be any different from, say, [name]Mason[/name], just in terms of popularity. I think it could make quite a sweet middle name.
