I’ve really started liking the name [name]Avram[/name] lately. I would consider adding it to my list, but I’m worried it might not work outside of the Jewish community. [name]Abram[/name] gets a decent amount of attention on Nameberry, but how do we feel about [name]Avram[/name]?
I’d especially like to hear from the Jewish berries. What would your reaction be to [name]Avram[/name] on a non-Jewish boy?
PS. I know [name]Avram[/name] doesn’t “go” with the names in my signature, but humor me here.
I’m Jewish, FWIW. I’d be sort of surprised, not offended or anything, i just might blink at you for a second.
The truth is that [name]Avram[/name] is very uncommon among Jews; the name [name]Avraham[/name] is extremely popular, and gets more use b/c in the bible, that’s his completed, perfected name as it were: G-d added the H for a reason, so in general people prefer to keep it in. [name]Avram[/name] feels a little old school Lower [name]East[/name] Side tenement to me.
[name]Avram[/name] seems like a super cool name to me. Not Jewish, but reading the post above me, it seems like it could be a modern take on a traditional name, which is always a positive in my eyes.
Ps: I think [name]Avram[/name] & [name]Silas[/name] from your signature would make awesome brothers!
[name]Avram[/name] is SO HANDSOME! I think [name]Avram[/name] works well with [name]Samuel[/name], [name]Benjamin[/name] and [name]Silas[/name]. They may not all be on the same level of uncommonness, but I do think they work together.
[name]One[/name] more Jewish vote for [name]Avram[/name] - I have always liked it better than [name]Abram[/name]. It has a much gentler, musical sound.
