My mom’s maiden name is [name]Brown[/name] and I’m very close to that side of the family. I am thinking if we have another baby, I might like to try to incorporate it into either a fn, first or second mn. What would you use to honor [name]Brown[/name]? [name]Just[/name] the name [name]Brown[/name]? Browning? I know [name]Bruno[/name] is an option, but we are very southern and I don’t see myself using [name]Bruno[/name]. What would you do if it was a boy, or what if it was a girl? Our ln is one syllable, easy to prn, btw. Thx!
Because you’re southern, I can see [name]Brown[/name] working as a first for a boy or a middle for either
I think [name]Brown[/name] would be fine for a middle name or even a first for a boy. For a girl, I thin [name]Bronwen[/name] would be interesting- it’s like [name]Brown[/name] with a girly twist.
[name]Hope[/name] that helps!
- [name]Athena[/name]
There are many [name]Brown[/name] names you could use instead - earth, autumn, birch, and many more
@[name]Athena[/name], i like the [name]Bronwen[/name] idea, esp on a girl, tho I’d prob use it as a mn still. Ok, I didn’t tell you my ln…bc of it I don’t think I can use [name]Brown[/name] for a fn, even for a boy. LN is [name]Chance[/name]. [name]Brown[/name] [name]Chance[/name] is too weird, but maybe if I stick it in either as a first or second mn. Thanks for your ideas.
@gblondie, Im about to look at your link.

I was going to suggest [name]Bronwyn[/name]. Any other names with Br in the front would be considered honoring that name too, imo…
My grandmother’s maiden name is [name]Brown[/name], and her brother often was called [name]Brown[/name]. So it doesn’t sound weird to me.
[name]Burnett[/name] possibly a middle name, although using [name]Brown[/name] by itself doesn’t seem odd to me either.
[name]Dunn[/name]
[name]Bron[/name]
[name]Bronson[/name]- means [name]Brown[/name]'s son
Bronze
[name]Mahogany[/name]
[name]Wood[/name]
[name]Russet[/name]
[name]Copper[/name]
[name]Umber[/name]
Sepia
[name]Bayard[/name]
[name]Burgundy[/name]

I love [name]Bruno[/name] myself! I know a couple young guys named [name]Bruno[/name] and so I think it’s usable. I’m not sure what I’d use as an alternative. Maybe [name]Teddy[/name]? Or another shade of ‘brown’?
For a girl, I came across an author named Brunonia today and find it quite striking. It’s nifty! I think [name]Hazel[/name] is a lovely option, though, too.
My grandmother’s maiden name is [name]Brown[/name], and I plan to use it as well. I have considered using it as both a first and middle name for a boy. In my personal opinion, when it comes to using maiden names, if you aren’t using the actual maiden name then you aren’t honoring your family. You are a [name]Brown[/name], not a [name]Bruno[/name] or a Browning or a [name]Bronwen[/name]. All of these names speak of completely different heritages. For a boy [name]Brown[/name] works as a first or middle name; for a girl I would only recommend it as a middle name.
There a wealth of color names in use out there, and why not [name]Brown[/name]?
If a boy, then [name]Bruno[/name]…I have a boy named [name]Bruno[/name] and my grandparents from the deep south and are more southern than william faulkner liked it just fine. if a girl, then [name]HAzel[/name] is cute.
@agirlinred: That’s how I feel about it, that if I don’t use the actual name [name]Brown[/name], it won’t really be honoring the name. And I do like it for a boys fn, but with our ln being [name]Chance[/name], don’t y’all think it sounds a bit weird? [name]Brown[/name] [name]Chance[/name]? I think I’m going to have to relegate it to the middle! Thanks for all the suggestions, everyone!
I like [name]Brown[/name] as a middle name for boy or girl.
