I just stumbled upon this name and was intrigued!! [name]How[/name] would you pronounce it? Is it familiar to you? Any thoughts in general?!
I would pronounce it yoo-[name]LAY[/name]-lee-ə. [name]Eulalia[/name] is a saint I believe, and [name]Eulalie[/name] is a poem by [name]Edgar[/name] [name]Allen[/name] [name]Poe[/name]. I love the name!
The name is Greek and means “well-spoken”. I would pronounce it ev-lah-[name]LEE[/name]-ah.
I pronounce it you-lay-lee-uh. I think it’s unusual and pretty.
In Spanish it’s oh-law-lee-uh
In English it’s you-lay-lee-uh
Here are a bunch of prn for you to listen to
you-lay-lee-uh
I adore this name. I say it yoo-LAYL-yuh.
In Spanish, it would be pronounced eh-oo-LAWL-yah.
I’d say yoo-[name]LAY[/name]-lee-ah. Pretty
ehu-LA-leeya, like this: Eulàlia pronunciation: How to pronounce Eulàlia in Catalan
GORRRRGEOUS!
ETA: Yep, it’s familiar to me. I know of an Eulàlia, and I known a couple girls named Olaia (the Basque form), and an [name]Olalla[/name] (she’s Galician). [name]Santa[/name] Eulàlia is the patron saint of [name]Barcelona[/name]. I was in town for her saint day a couple years ago and fell in love with it after hearing it over and over that weekend. So awesome!
I say it more like ya-lay-lee-ah, but it’s you-lay-lee-ah, just said quickly.
I love [name]Olalla[/name]. It’s more straightforward for English speakers. I’m not crazy about [name]Eulalia[/name] “you-lay-lee-uh”, sounds like ukelele. Never actually met an [name]Olalla[/name], just know of a Spanish soccer player’s wife
Yeah, I think [name]Olalla[/name]/ Olaia/ Olaya is great! Olaia and Olaya, I think, seem to stick better with English-speakers, though. I’ve seen [name]Olalla[/name] misspelled dozens of times as Ollala by people who are unfamiliar with the name and unfamiliar with Spanish
I think Torres’ wife is from Galicia too, eh?
Thank you to everyone who posted a response! I’m so so intrigued by this name and would like to know more and get peoples opinions…I had never heard the name before yesterday!! I’m going to start a seperate thread though as i feel my new wonderings may get lost in this one about the pronunciation! If you have information about similar names, nick names and middle names to compliment [name]Eulalia[/name] woudl love if you could respond in my new thread Thanks! such a beautiful name!
She’s the patron saint of [name]Barcelona[/name]. The cathedral there is named for her.
I’ve always said it, “yoo-lay-lee-uh.” But I guess you could say “yoo-luh-lee-uh.” Or “loo-layle-yuh.”
I pronounce it yuh-lah-lee-a, almost uh-lah-lee-a. I have also heard yoo-lay-lee-ah.
I also say you-LAH-lee-ah, as with all Eu- names, just like [name]Eudora[/name] and Eudossia.
You-lay-lee-uh is how I would pronounce it.
Agree with franreeves, yoo-[name]LAY[/name]-lee-ah. It’s pretty but I can’t see it on a real person of any age.
