Please excuse my edit
I would pronounce [name]Hana[/name] as Hah-na, and I also prefer it to [name]Hannah[/name].
I was going to suggest this in your Homily thread but I ended up deciding not to, but perhaps you might like Honalei / Hanalei? Or [name]Hannele[/name] / Hanneli? The first is a place in [name]Hawaii[/name] that I think would translate easily into a name and the second a Finnish ([name]Hannele[/name]) and [name]German[/name] (Hanneli) diminuitive of [name]Hannah[/name]. I believe there are other variants or spellings out there as well, if none of those appeal to you.
I would think it was a creative spelling of the age old hannah and would pronounce it that way. I prefer “ha-na” to “hah-na”. [name]Hope[/name] you find something that you love that won’t give people the chance to drive you crazy!
I would pronounce it Hah-na, the way you like it.
Other names that start with that sound:
[name]Havilah[/name]
Hannaliese
You might also like [name]Avi[/name].
I would pronounce [name]Hana[/name] as Hah-nah. I too prefer it to [name]Hannah[/name].
I’m familiar with the name [name]Hana[/name] so if I saw “[name]Hana[/name]” with only one N and no H I’d automatically pronounce it “Hah na”. I think one of it’s origins is Japanese, it’s pretty popular in Japan. I prefer [name]Hana[/name] to [name]Hanna[/name]/[name]Hannah[/name].
I thought of the Japanese origins also and pronounce it the way you do. I just don’t think other “non-namer” people would do the same. With everyone spelling popular names in a million different ways now, people will more than likely assume you " creatively" spelled [name]Hannah[/name] that way.
While I would say hah-nah… most people would just think it was ha-hah, but missing some letters. Sorry. [name]Hope[/name] you find one that works!
I would say Hah-na since it’s a Japanese name and that’s how they say it… but for those with no Japanese background, I can see many saying it as [name]Hannah[/name].
I would say hah-nah, but I’m also familiar with it. Isn’t [name]Hana[/name] a place or road in [name]Hawaii[/name]? On Maui I think? [name]Haven[/name]'t been to that part of [name]Hawaii[/name] but I vaguely remember something like that.
If I hadn’t heard of [name]Hana[/name], I might think it was a misspelling of [name]Hannah[/name]. But if correcting people doesn’t bother you, I think people will catch on eventually.
My friend has a girl named Aunna, and I have an aunt Vonna.
[name]Hana[/name] would definitely make me think twice about how to pronounce it, but I think the others are correct–most of the general population will still probably pronounce it like [name]Hannah[/name]. I have a sister [name]Hannah[/name], however, and a surprising number of people try to pronounce her name as Hah-na so I’m not sure there’s a good way of predicting how it will be pronounced.
If you’re looking for alternatives or forms of [name]Hana[/name], you might consider [name]Johana[/name]/[name]Johanna[/name] or [name]Hannelore[/name].
[name]LARK[/name]
My friend [name]Angela[/name] was actually born a [name]Hana[/name], and she pronounces it Hah-na. I’ve never pronounced it like [name]Hannah[/name].
[name]Hana[/name] is both Japanese and Korean. If you’d like to make the origins clear, [name]Hanako[/name] (“flower child”) or Hanami are popular Japanese names.
The [name]German[/name] element [name]Hanne[/name]- is reasonably common (nickname for [name]Johanna[/name]), though is a bit dated over there. But you could easily select a name like [name]Hannelore[/name] to ensure you get the pronunciation you’re after.
I know a [name]Hannah[/name] and a [name]Hana[/name]. Maybe it’s our accents, but they both seem to be pronounced in the same way? Though as far as I know everyone feels less of an urge to call [name]Hana[/name] “Han” as a nickname. Myself included.
[name]Hana[/name] also has Arabic/Persian roots in meaning.
I know a little girl adopted from Ethiopia named Harna, pronounced the way you like. While the r may make it look a little harsh, there should be little pronounciation concerns
Although, if you went with [name]Hana[/name] I would probably pronounce it the same way
I’m exactly the same
[name]Vilhelmina[/name] perhaps. I wouldn’t pronounce it hah-na, wat about [name]Haidee[/name] or hahlana?
