How would you pronounce it?

Hey Ladies,

My partner and I have a fav girls name but want to know how you would pronounce it?

The name is [name_f]Lila[/name_f]…

Thanks so much

Lie-lah is how I always pronounce it, but I do know someone who uses the “lee-lah” pronunciation.

I’d pronounce it LIE-lah, like [name_f]Lilah[/name_f], but I know a lot of people who would pronounce it [name_f]LIL[/name_f]-ah.
It’s a beautiful name, by the way.

I would be more likely to pronounce it “[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-lah”, assuming it’s the Sanskrit name, or the [name_m]French[/name_m] one, or the [name_m]German[/name_m] word for the colour purple. But since coming to Nameberry I might hesitate and consider “LIE-luh” as well.

[name_u]Lee[/name_u]-lah for me, but then again I am not a native english speaker and this pronunciation is just more natural for me.

I would definitely say LEE-la.

(I’m Australian too, if that helps)

I’d pronounce [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] as [name_u]LEE[/name_u]-lah, and [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] would be LIE-lah.

I’d pronounce it LIE-lah

I say [name_f]Lila[/name_f] LIE-lah, but probably just because that’s how I was introduced to the name as a kid: it definitely LOOKS more like [name_u]LEE[/name_u]-lah.

Lie luh…

Definitely lie-luh. -Australia

I would pronounce it Lie-la.

I didn’t realize there were alternate pronunciations. I’d say LIE-luh. Rhyming with the word lie.

Same for me

I would say “lee-lah”.

I would pronounce it [name_f]LIL[/name_f]-ah, but there’s lots of possible ways to say it.

I would definitely say “LIE-la” unless told otherwise.

Lih-luh like in [name_f]Lily[/name_f], If it was spelled [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] then I would say Lie-luh

Definitely LIE-lah

It would depend for me on the context. As a pp noted, in other languages it means other things. If I met your family in a [name_m]German[/name_m] context, I would say [name_u]LEE[/name_u]-la. If I met them in the USA Northeast corner, where I’m from, I would say LIE-la, because I know people in that context with the name pronounced that way. Difficult to give a firm answer. Probably you would have to just clarify for some people how you want it pronounced.
