[name_u]Ray[/name_u]-nee-ur
[name_u]Ray[/name_u]-nee-yeh
[name_m]Rye[/name_m]-nee-yeh
Or something else?
[name_u]Ray[/name_u]-nee-ur
[name_u]Ray[/name_u]-nee-yeh
[name_m]Rye[/name_m]-nee-yeh
Or something else?
I’ve always wondered how it’s really pronounced…
I pronounce it ray-nee-er, as in ‘its rainier than yesterday’
I say it more like ‘ray-NEAR’. In [name_m]French[/name_m] it seems to be ‘[name_u]RAY[/name_u]-n’yay’.
I say [name_u]Ray[/name_u]-NEER
The [name_m]French[/name_m] way, which I am terrible at spelling out phonetically, but something like “[name_u]Ren[/name_u]-YAY”. The end consonant wouldn’t be pronounced.
I could also see it being pronounced like [name_m]Rainer[/name_m], a la [name_m]Rainer[/name_m] [name_f]Maria[/name_f] Rilke.
I kind of say [name_u]Ray[/name_u]-NYEAR, because of the Simpsons :p.
[name_u]Ray[/name_u]-nee-yeh
[name_u]Ray[/name_u]-nee-yeh is how I instinctively pronounce it, though I’m not sure what the correct pronunciation is.
Instinctively, ray-NEER.
i say ray-neer.
[name_u]Rain[/name_u]-yer in English [name_u]Ren[/name_u]-yeh in [name_m]French[/name_m]
The mountain is pronounced rain-EER, if that helps.
ray-nyeh - two syllables and less of a ray sound but more of a french rai sound.
if asked to read it aloud, I’d probably say
RAH-nee-ay
This really would depend on where you’re from, your culture, language, etc.
For me, my first instinctive pronunciation would be [name_u]RAY[/name_u]-neer, like the mountain.
If offered other information -like a European parent or [name_m]French[/name_m] last name- the way I’d think it’s pronounced would be different.
I too say it like the mountain, ray-NEER. I understand that it is not the only accepted pronunciation, though (obviously).
I generally say ray-NEER, but rhen-YAY/the [name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciation would be my second choice! I do like [name_m]Rainer[/name_m] a lot, though, and that’s a completely different story ([name_m]RYE[/name_m]-ner, I think?).
I say ray-NEER.
I’d pronounce it like the mountain: ray-NEER.
[name_u]RAY[/name_u]-nee-ehr was my first guess.
