I’ve just rediscovered the name [name_f]Raya[/name_f], but I’m worried it’s one of those names that will run into pronounciation problems.
How would you pronounce it if you saw it?
It’s familiar to me from the 80s cartoon [name_u]Jem[/name_u] and the Holograms, where it was pronounced RAY-a, but there’s an upcoming Disney animated movie where it seems to be pronounced RYE-a instead.
I saw this and thought of the new Disney princess movie that is coming out. I’m so excited!
I think 100% that after the movie comes out, people will automatically say RY-uh, like it is said in the movie. She will be the next [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]/Anna/Moana, so I’d be prepared for that
I had a friend in high school who said it RY-uh. I’m not sure if the Disney movie will impact the default pronunciation but teachers got it wrong about 50% of the time.
When I first saw this I was thinking “as it says on the tin” but then I realized it could easily be said like [name_f]Maya[/name_f] or [name_u]Kaya[/name_u]. However, the [name_u]Ray[/name_u]-uh pronunciation is what came to me first and sounds best in my opinion
Maybe to avoid the [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_m]Ry[/name_m]-uh it could be spelled [name_f]Rhea[/name_f]? I babysat a [name_f]Rhea[/name_f] and no one ever pronounced her name wrong
I would automatically say [name_u]Ray[/name_u]-a, but I wouldn’t be surprised by the [name_u]Rye[/name_u]-a pronunciation, and it would be an easy correction.
