I am in love with the name “Elizaryth” since it’s like a quirky-cute twist on the traditional sounding [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], but how would you guys pronounce it?
I pronounce it like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] but with an ‘r’ sound, basically “Elizareth” but I’m not sure if that’s the way most people would see it as.
I agree with everyone’s pronunciation and also agree that I would really think twice before using it. People are going to constantly assume her name is [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and just think there was typo. It will be annoying for your kid to have constantly correct people. Parents forget that they aren’t the only ones who will have to correct people constantly. Plus it just sounds completely made up and frankly like you just think you are “super cool.” Doing a quick search on google does bring up other people with the name though so at least there is that.
[name_f]My[/name_f] first reaction (and a friend randomly had the same one) is that it sounds like the name of a dragon in a fantasy novel, ie: invented and not human. I’d pronounce it like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] with an R, but I hope it’s a GP and not a serious idea.
I’d say it with an r too and second not using it because when I first saw it, I thought [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]? And then realized it wasn’t… it would just be so annoying to have as a name.
I’d say ‘eh-[name_f]LIZ[/name_f]-a-rith’ because there’s a ‘y’ in it and ‘y’ and ‘e’ are not interchangeable. If you wanted [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] but with an ‘r’ then it’d be Elizareth, surely. Either way, I think it’s daft.
I would say it eh-liz-a-rith too - the y makes the i sound not the e sound. Basically it just looks like a really, really bad typo. A bit like naming your daughter [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] but spelling it Ellennah.
I think I would be taken aback at the idea of “[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] with an R,” so I’d assume the pronunciation would be different. [name_f]My[/name_f] first guess would probably be eliZARyth, with the emphasis on the zar sound.
