How would you pronounce....

I’m British.

[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]: [name_f]Rose[/name_f]-Uh-[name_u]Lee[/name_u].
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]: [name_f]Elle[/name_f]-Uh-[name_f]Dee[/name_f].
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]: [name_f]Bee[/name_f]-Uh-[name_u]Tris[/name_u].

I’m British, English to be precise.

[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] - [name_f]ROSE[/name_f]-uh-lee
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f] - [name_f]ELLE[/name_f]-oh-dee
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] - [name_f]BEE[/name_f]-uh-triss

I already responded upthread, but pronunciation can often be regional/cultural. It would help to ask family and friends living in your area how they would pronounce it, which might get you a more accurate picture for where you are. If you know anyone with these names living where you do, how do they pronounce it?

Haha, it’s so hard to ask without giving the potential names away! We did that when I was expecting my first child and people’s reactions - you always get some negativity! - have put me off sharing them publicly ahead of time.

I do know that some people pronounce [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_f]Ell[/name_f]-OH-dee, which neither DH or I like. I don’t think it’s a very common name in the States so she might have to correct people all the time! I have also heard of people pronouncing [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] as “RAH-za-lee” (with a hard S, like ‘[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]’), which also detracts a lot from the beauty of the name [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

It’s tricky for us to find a balance as we’re Brits living in the States with a lot of close Aussie relations, so we have to find a name that isn’t majorly popular in any of those 3 countries, and also one that won’t pose any pronunciation issues for our family and friends on 3 continents!

[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]? [name_f]Rose[/name_f]-ah-lee

[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]? L-O-D (the sound of each of these letters)

[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]? [name_f]Bee[/name_f]-triss

I’m from [name_f]Maine[/name_f] (USA)

Midlands, [name_f]England[/name_f], UK.

“[name_f]ROZ[/name_f]-uh-lee”

“[name_f]ELL[/name_f]-uh-dee”

“BEER-triss” (bearing in mind we don’t pronounce the final “r” here, but I don’t know how else to represent this - like “ear” without the “r”?)

Rose-a-Lee
El-low-Dee or more like literally LOD
BEE-a - tris

In the US

I don’t understand the difference between [name_f]Roz[/name_f]-aly and [name_f]Rose[/name_f]-aly. I say like [name_f]Rosa[/name_f]-lee.
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]: Elo-dee
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]: [name_u]Bay[/name_u]-ah-triss or [name_f]Bee[/name_f]-ah-triss.

USA ([name_u]North[/name_u] [name_f]East[/name_f]) but come from Europe.

[name_f]Rose[/name_f]-a-lee
Eh-luh-dee
Beer-triss

Cambridge, England

Roze-uh-lee
[name_f]Ell[/name_f]-oh-dee
[name_u]Bay[/name_u]-uh-treess

I live in [name_m]New[/name_m] Mexico, but I grew up in Illinois. The only [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] I’ve known was [name_m]German[/name_m].

[name_f]Rosa[/name_f]-lee
[name_f]Ell[/name_f]-oh-dee
[name_u]Bay[/name_u]-uh-triss

Live in [name_u]Texas[/name_u] with my first language being [name_m]German[/name_m].

I’m in the US midwest, and I think this how most people in this area would pronounce these names

[name_f]Rose[/name_f]-uh-lee
[name_f]El[/name_f]-oh-dee (this one may cause some stutters initially, but I think once taught it is okay)
[name_f]Bee[/name_f]-uh-triss

[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] - [name_f]Rose[/name_f]-uh-lee

[name_f]Elodie[/name_f] - [name_f]Ell[/name_f]-oh-dee

[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] - [name_f]Bee[/name_f]-ah-tris
