How would you pronounce...?

I love the name [name_u]Malin[/name_u] for a girl. I always thought it was pronounce [name_f]May[/name_f]-lynn but the more I look into the name, the more I see different pronunciations. I don’t want my child having to correct people her entire life. [name_m]How[/name_m] would you pronounce [name_u]Malin[/name_u]? Should I spell it differently … Maelyn, Maylin, Maelin?

I actually thought it was pronounced more like mah-lyn, since it came across very Scandinavian to me. I’m not a big fan of any other spellings, sorry.

But I don’t really think you’d have to change it. [name_m]Just[/name_m] explain to everyone how you pronounce it.

When reading it, my automatic pronunciation is mah-lynn, but I’m not familiar with its origin so I could be wrong.

Correcting people all your life can get tiresome - my sister’s name is [name_f]Katarina[/name_f] and she’s heard lots of different butcherings of her name - but can be worth it for a unique name! People may call her Mah-lin or Maaa-lin but so long as she has the gumption to politely correct them I think it’ll be just fine! If it is still something that concerns you, I like the spelling of Maelin the best. Good luck!

My initial pronounciation would be ‘mailin’.

As pretty as the [name_u]Malin[/name_u] spelling is, I would change the spelling to make the [name_f]May[/name_f]-[name_u]Lynn[/name_u] pronounciation more emphatic.

I could see how people would pronounce it mah-[name_f]Lin[/name_f]. You could always spell it Maelin, Maelinn, Maelyn, Maelynn, Maylin, Maylynn.

We has the same problem with a name we liked [name_f]Raelyn[/name_f] ([name_u]Ray[/name_u]-[name_u]Lynn[/name_u])…so we decided to go with something else bc the more and more we heard people pronouncing it Railin’…we just didn’t find it as cute. It’s just different once people start to say it lol.

Good luck!

I saw [name_u]Mal[/name_u]-inn.

I think Maelyn is very pretty

I pronounced it mah-lin. Although I think the [name_u]Malin[/name_u] spelling is to the point and simple, I wouldn’t even think to pronounce it may-lin. I think Maelin is rather pretty and helps you to outline the pronunciation, but I also like Mailen (it looks more ‘right’ to me).

Mailin or Muh [name_u]Lynn[/name_u]

‘[name_u]Mal[/name_u] (rhymes with [name_u]Sal[/name_u]) -in’ There’s an actress named [name_u]Malin[/name_u] Ackerman & this is how I’ve heard her name pronounced. To get your pronuncaition, I’d expect to see Maelin/Maylen

The original pronunciation, MAH-lin.

Initially, may-lin (emphasis on may).

I pronounce it Mah-lynn.
I would spell it Mayline or [name_f]May[/name_f]-[name_u]Lynn[/name_u].

I’m not familiar with the name, but my initial guess would be “mah-lin”.

I only know this as a Swedish name, Målin, pronounced somewhere between MAW-lin and MAH-lin.

If you want something like Maylinn, I’d forego the Swedish spelling.

I would pronounce it [name_f]MAY[/name_f]-[name_f]Lin[/name_f] at first glance. Second glance would be [name_f]MAR[/name_f]-[name_f]lin[/name_f].

I’d say MAH-lynn. But [name_f]May[/name_f]-lynn could work if you just explain the way you want it pronounced or use the double barrelled [name_f]May[/name_f]/[name_f]Mae[/name_f]- [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] or have [name_f]May[/name_f]/[name_f]Mae[/name_f] as a first and [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] as a middle. I think Maelin and Mailin just look a bit kre8tif, and the latter is really reminiscent of mailing.

I would say Mah-len, I’m an Aussie if that makes any difference?
I’d change the spelling to make sure!

[name_f]MOLL[/name_f]-in

I love it too. Really don’t like it as [name_f]MAY[/name_f]-lin though. It would irritate me because I would just think it’s being mispronounced.

This was my first thought too.
