[name_m]How[/name_m] would you pronounce Tjark Jonte? [name_m]General[/name_m] thoughts on the names/combo? If you’d hear the names on a playground would you think they’re for a boy or a girl?
Tjark Jonte has been a guilty pleasure of mine since I first heard the names on holiday in europe. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t consider using it just interested what other people think about it.
I pronounce Tjark the way @wandsworth does. Jonte would be yon-teh with Tjark as a first name. If I saw it without Tjark I might have pronounced it like [name_m]John[/name_m] but with a “t” in the end.
Tjark screams male to me, maybe because harsher-sounding European names are usually male. Can’t say I’m a huge fan of the combo, Tjark sounds too harsh to my ears and not really attractive, plus I dislike how it doesn’t have any familiar-sounding nicknames. If I had to use it I’d pick a middle name less out-there than Jonte to balance it out.
I speak a derivative of Dutch and I would pronounce that like Tyark Yohn-tuh. However I think most native English speakers would have a pretty hard time with it.
