How Would You React To A Little Girl Named....

I’m having a bit of a confidence issue with my name list, which generally results in one of my many, many massive ‘name redos’ in which case, everything that isn’t popular is completely removed, and I start over.

I realise my list is really out of most people’s style range, but would you react badly to any of these? Would they widely be accepted as ‘ok’?

[name_f]Lottie[/name_f]
[name_f]Betsy[/name_f]
[name_f]Edie[/name_f]
[name_f]Polly[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Miriam[/name_f]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Hattie[/name_f]
[name_f]Minnie[/name_f]
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f]
[name_u]Billie[/name_u]
[name_f]Marnie[/name_f]
[name_f]Effie[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f]
[name_f]Marie[/name_f]
[name_f]Dulcie[/name_f]
[name_f]Nellie[/name_f]
[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]
[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]
[name_f]Agatha[/name_f]
[name_f]Bessie[/name_f]
[name_f]Dora[/name_f]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f]
[name_f]Essie[/name_f]
[name_f]Ethel[/name_f]
[name_f]Doris[/name_f]
[name_f]Nettie[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u]
[name_f]Delia[/name_f]
[name_f]Birdie[/name_f]
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f]

Thank you, and sorry about the long list!

I like most of the names on your list! The ones that I don’t like as much are [name_f]Hermione[/name_f], [name_f]Agatha[/name_f], and [name_f]Ethel[/name_f]. I think that for the most part, though, I would love to meet a little girl with any of these names!

[name_f]Lottie[/name_f] / [name_f]Betsy[/name_f] / [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] / [name_f]Polly[/name_f] / [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] / [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] / [name_f]Bessie[/name_f] / [name_f]Essie[/name_f] / [name_f]Nettie[/name_f] --> Very nickname-y. It’s not important for everyone, but they personally fail the honourable judge/doctor test. In all honesty, I don’t like nicknames as full names. I would probably be surprised it’s their full name.

[name_f]Olive[/name_f] --> I really adore the name [name_f]Olive[/name_f]! In all honesty, I’d be jealous :stuck_out_tongue:

[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] / [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] / [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] / [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] / [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] --> [name_u]Love[/name_u] these names! All strong and classical and age well! I’d love to meet little girls with these names - a strong commendation to their namer.

[name_f]Marnie[/name_f] / [name_f]Effie[/name_f] / [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] / [name_f]Edie[/name_f] / [name_f]Dulcie[/name_f] --> This are the nickname-y names I think you can get away with! Very nice.

[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] / [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] / [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] / [name_f]Marie[/name_f] / [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] / [name_f]Vera[/name_f] / [name_f]Ethel[/name_f] --> Names I’m not too fond of, but definitely respectable!

[name_f]Dora[/name_f] / [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] / [name_u]Billie[/name_u] --> These three names have rather high connotations for me. [name_f]Dora[/name_f] the [name_u]Explorer[/name_u] (shudders), [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_m]Granger[/name_m] and [name_u]Billie[/name_u] [name_u]Piper[/name_u] (not a bad thing for these last two for me, though). I wouldn’t feel sorry for them or anything, but this would be the first thing I’d think of!

[name_f]Doris[/name_f] / [name_f]Delia[/name_f] / [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] / [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] / [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] --> Sorry, this is going to be harsh, but I’d feel kinda sympathetic for them. I know a [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] who hates her name (poor girl :frowning: ) and the rest I can’t take seriously, sorry! But that may just be because they are not my style.

I wouldn’t react negatively to any of the names on your list. There are a few([name_f]Doris[/name_f], [name_f]Ethel[/name_f]) that I don’t particularly like, but they’re still “ok” names.

It’s a longlist so these will be short ‘reactions’…

[name_f]Lottie[/name_f] - eh, yawn
[name_f]Betsy[/name_f] - cute, I met one a while ago (in [name_f]Canada[/name_f] actually but she had expat-[name_u]Brit[/name_u] parents). She didn’t make me like it a lot though, the novelty actually wore off for me.
[name_f]Edie[/name_f] - love! I really like this one, I have a friend with this name and she pulls it off well
[name_f]Polly[/name_f] - nice
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] - honestly I think it’s ugly. I’ve never said that on NB before (don’t hurt me!!)
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] - pretty
[name_f]Miriam[/name_f] - must have v. religious parents
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] - nice, a bit pretentious (I know 2 girls who are)
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] - brilliant name
[name_f]Hattie[/name_f] - cute, I know a few so wouldn’t be a huge surprise
[name_f]Minnie[/name_f] - cute
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] - love this, I know the craziest little girl with this name
[name_u]Billie[/name_u] -
[name_f]Marnie[/name_f] - I’d really love to see this more
[name_f]Effie[/name_f] - sounds like ‘effing’ or ‘eff you’ to me, maybe it could grow on me if I knew one
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f] - nice, not very ‘little girl’ to me so would be interesting to meet one
[name_f]Marie[/name_f] - eh, ‘‘why’’? Probably perceived as chavy where I’m from (dated names on kids often are)
[name_f]Dulcie[/name_f] - lovely, I’d love to meet one
[name_f]Nellie[/name_f] - nice, nothing special though
[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] - lovely
[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] - lovely, I think of Plath
[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] - nice, quite trendy-unusual still
[name_f]Agatha[/name_f] - love love this
[name_f]Bessie[/name_f] - eh
[name_f]Dora[/name_f] - lovely, very sweet
[name_f]Vera[/name_f] - not a fan, quite boring but could grow on me if I knew a little one
[name_f]Essie[/name_f] - nah
[name_f]Ethel[/name_f] - lovely, would definitely like to meet one
[name_f]Doris[/name_f] - as above (thought you hated this though?)
[name_f]Nettie[/name_f] - wouldn’t work round here, old Newcastle slang for a toilet
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f] - lovely
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u] - nice, I’d like to finally meet one
[name_f]Delia[/name_f] - definitely love to meet one
[name_f]Birdie[/name_f] - eh, I do like it but it’s nothing special
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f] - it would be nice to hear this replace all the Poppys/Lilys etc.

For the most part, I wouldn’t mind meeting a little girl with any of these names. I dislike [name_u]Billie[/name_u], [name_f]Birdie[/name_f], [name_f]Ethel[/name_f], [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] and [name_f]Bessie[/name_f], so I would feel a bit sorry for a girl with those names. I don’t mean to offend anyone who has those names or likes them, but they are too old fashioned or animal names for me.

I had a change of heart with [name_f]Doris[/name_f] once I saw pictures of a few little girls with the name  I’ve now actually really grown to love it.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone

[name_u]Love[/name_u]: [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Miriam[/name_f], [name_f]Hermione[/name_f], [name_f]Minnie[/name_f], [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_f]Agatha[/name_f], [name_f]Dora[/name_f], [name_f]Ethel[/name_f], [name_u]Vivian[/name_u], [name_f]Doris[/name_f], [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] and [name_f]Birdie[/name_f]

Like: [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], [name_f]Delia[/name_f], [name_f]Effie[/name_f], [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f], [name_f]Hattie[/name_f], [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]

Neutral: [name_f]Edie[/name_f], [name_f]Marnie[/name_f], [name_f]Marie[/name_f], [name_f]Dulcie[/name_f], [name_f]Essie[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]

Dislike: [name_f]Betsy[/name_f], [name_f]Polly[/name_f], [name_u]Billie[/name_u], [name_f]Nellie[/name_f], [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f], [name_f]Bessie[/name_f], and [name_f]Nettie[/name_f]

I also suggest, since you like the name [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] - try [name_f]Cricket[/name_f]. I think that would be a really cool name or middle name!

I don’t think any of these are so “out there” that they’d get universal bad reactions. Most of the names you have listed are ones that I’m actually quite fond of. There are a few that I would have a less than positive response to though…

[name_f]Lottie[/name_f], [name_f]Betsy[/name_f], [name_f]Hattie[/name_f], [name_f]Minnie[/name_f], [name_u]Billie[/name_u], [name_f]Nellie[/name_f], [name_f]Essie[/name_f], [name_f]Ethel[/name_f], [name_f]Nettie[/name_f], [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] - I prefer all of these as nicknames rather than full names. They just look incomplete to me as stand alone names.

[name_f]Polly[/name_f], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_f]Effie[/name_f], [name_f]Dulcie[/name_f], [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f], [name_f]Bessie[/name_f], [name_f]Dora[/name_f], [name_f]Ethel[/name_f], [name_f]Doris[/name_f], [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] - If I came across a little girl with any of these names, I would honestly feel sorry for her. I find them to be generally unattractive names that bring to mind old ladies or in the case of [name_f]Bessie[/name_f], a cow.

Hermoine - I would straight up roll my eyes if I met a Hermoine. [name_m]Way[/name_m], way too [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m].

The [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] thing doesn’t bother me in the slightest  As a child, I looked up to the character, and actually wanted to change my name to [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] Also, I think I’m ok with [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], my sister has a 14 year old friend with the name who loves it  thank you!

@babynameaholic - thank you for the suggestion! I think [name_f]Cricket[/name_f]'s adorable, but I don’t think I’d be brave enough to go for it. I’d definitely choose it for a nickname though

[name_f]My[/name_f] reactions would be as follows:
 : [name_f]Edie[/name_f], [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], [name_f]Minnie[/name_f], [name_f]Hermione[/name_f], [name_f]Marnie[/name_f], [name_f]Effie[/name_f], [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_f]Marie[/name_f], [name_f]Dulcie[/name_f], [name_f]Nellie[/name_f], [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f], [name_f]Lucille[/name_f], [name_f]Delia[/name_f], [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]

 : [name_f]Lottie[/name_f], [name_f]Polly[/name_f], [name_f]Miriam[/name_f], [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f], [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f], [name_f]Essie[/name_f], [name_u]Vivian[/name_u], [name_f]Birdie[/name_f], [name_f]Agatha[/name_f]

:(: [name_f]Betsy[/name_f], [name_f]Hattie[/name_f], [name_u]Billie[/name_u], [name_f]Bessie[/name_f], [name_f]Dora[/name_f], [name_f]Ethel[/name_f], [name_f]Doris[/name_f]

Overall, I would say it’s only the clunkiness oldest-sounding ones I can’t get on board with.

I love your style, it’s vintage, cute and nicknamey.

[name_f]Lottie[/name_f] - I like it, however, I think of a European background when I hear it, not that it's a bad thing, but that's my minds association. Like, a blonde [name_m]German[/name_m] girl or Danish girl
    [name_f]Betsy[/name_f] - [name_f]Adore[/name_f] this, classic and funky
[name_f]Edie[/name_f] - I like the sound, but always think of that trashy woman from Desperate Housewives, puts me off a bit.
[name_f]Polly[/name_f] - Adorable and sweet. I have trouble seeing it on an adult, but all adults will have cutesy names in 20 years anyway.
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] - [name_u]LOVE[/name_u]! Would use this, except that it gets a little washed up in the [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] trend and I don't like the popularity of [name_f]Olivia[/name_f].
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] - one of my favourite movies growing up was The Pirate Movie. A musical comedy, the main characters name was [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] and I have loved it ever since. I will name one of my daughters this, hopefully, with the nn Maybe.
[name_f]Miriam[/name_f] - I like [name_f]Miri[/name_f], it's a cute nn, I'm not a huge fan of [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] though, sounds a little bit whiney for some reason.
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] - I like this in theory but always have trouble pronouncing it myself, so wouldn't be able to blame others for getting it wrong
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] - [name_u]Love[/name_u] it, sweet, romantic and mysterious
[name_f]Hattie[/name_f] - I have a southern belle image in my mind from this name
[name_f]Minnie[/name_f] - Still too [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] Mouse to work, imo
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] - I love the literary connection, but she would be always saying "yes, like in [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]"
[name_u]Billie[/name_u] - Not my cup of tea
[name_f]Marnie[/name_f] - Reminds me of the annoying [name_f]Pink[/name_f] Lady on Grease
[name_f]Effie[/name_f] - Adorable, reading to be used again for sure
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f] - I don't like the sess sounding names, very harsh in my opinion
[name_f]Marie[/name_f] - boring, compared the other gems
    [name_f]Dulcie[/name_f] - Too non-recognisable as a name
[name_f]Nellie[/name_f] - I see the appeal, but associate [name_u]Nelly[/name_u] Furtado, meh
[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] - Not very fond of this
    [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] - Quirky classic, I love it
    [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] - very sweet
    [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] - I love this, spunky - a sister to a [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] style
    [name_f]Bessie[/name_f] - the cow
    [name_f]Dora[/name_f] - the explorer
    [name_f]Vera[/name_f] - wang
[name_f]Essie[/name_f] - messy, bessy, just too soundy
[name_f]Ethel[/name_f] - It's a bit too stuck to the old lady, blue hair image still
    [name_f]Doris[/name_f] - [name_u]Day[/name_u] - very stuck
[name_f]Nettie[/name_f] - Cute and different, I like it
    [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] - Loose seal
    [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] - I love [name_f]Vivi[/name_f]
    [name_f]Delia[/name_f] - I love [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
    [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] - GREAT GREAT GREAT
    [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] - Classy and pretty

Those are some lovely names! Old-fashioned names are new again, so I can imagine that a lot of these names will be widely used in the coming years.
Personally, I love these types of names.
[name_f]My[/name_f] faves on your list are [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f], [name_f]Lottie[/name_f], [name_f]Nettie[/name_f], [name_f]Edie[/name_f] and [name_f]Marnie[/name_f]. [name_f]Marie[/name_f] is so refreshing as a first name too! I love [name_f]Faye[/name_f]. I am surprised that [name_f]Lettie[/name_f]/[name_f]Letty[/name_f] isn’t on your list.
I am not a fan of [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Ethel[/name_f], [name_f]Hermione[/name_f], [name_f]Doris[/name_f] or [name_f]Hattie[/name_f].

Ooh, I’m surprised I forgot [name_f]Lettie[/name_f] myself! I’ll have to add it, I do like [name_f]Faye[/name_f] as well, thank you

I’d be thrilled to hear all but [name_u]Billie[/name_u] and [name_f]Marie[/name_f] on a 21st Century little girl :).

Lottie- I know a Lottie, and she wears it really well, but it isn’t my favourite nn name.
Betsy- Cool and spunky. I would be excited to meet a Betsy.
Edie- My sister’s name is Eden, and she primarily goes by Edie, Edie-Ru or Rooster, so I adore this name.
Polly- Sorry, bad association with Polly (person). I do think it has a lovely sassy sound though.
Olive- I adore Olive. Love love love. I would probably run after them, complimenting their name.
Mabel- Cute, but I automatically think of the annoying little girl in Bridge to Terabithia. Cool name though.
Miriam- I imagine a serious, studious little girl- kind, smart and gentle.
Genevieve- I know a Genevieve, a teenager, and she wears it really well. I think it is gorgeous, grounded and very feminine.
Ophelia- I would assume they were Shakespeare buffs (like me). I would also maybe wonder why they picked Ophelia as a namesake. Don’t get me wrong, it is a gorgeous name, but the drowned girl in Hamlet is still too strong for me.
Hattie- Lovely. Spunky and sweet. I adore it (it is in my signature :)).
Minnie- Ditto.
Hermione- I love this. I would love to meet a Hermione. I might even call my own daughter Hermione, who knows?
Billie- Jazzy cool, sleek and slightly tomboyish. I love Billie.
Marnie- Very dated to my ears. I know a Marnie, and while it is a cute and peppy name, I much prefer your other choices.
Effie- Cute, spunky and sassy. Unfortunately, I hear ‘eff you.’ Sorry.
Cecily- I don’t like it. I love Celia and Celeste, but I really dislike Cecily. She just seems… spoilt? Sorry.
Marie- I prefer Mary, but Marie is still lovely as a fn: gentle and familiar, with a lovely sound.
Dulcie- I love Dulcie. It has such a friendly, open, gentle sound, and it reminds me of caramel (dulce leche).
Nellie- I like Nell, but not Nellie. I don’t know why.
Lavinia- Sort of in the same mode as Letitia: a serious, buttoned up name. I think it is perfect, but I prefer Vinnie.
Sylvia- I prefer Sylvie, but this is a lovely, sylvan elegance to it, willowy and graceful.
Ottilie- Mega vintage spunk. I prefer Ottoline, but Ottilie is cuter and more approachable.
Agatha- Love. This needs to be resurrected.
Bessie-Ditto.
Dora- I still think of Dora the Explorer (‘Hola Amigos!’), but I would love to meet one.
Vera- A permanent crinkled old lady name to me. I don’t know why, but it makes me think of someone’s mouth after they have sucked a lemon. Sorry.
Essie- Love. There is the nail polish brand, but I still love it.
Ethel- See Vera.
Doris- I want to like it, I love Norris, but I just can’t. It could grow on me though.
Nettie- Love.
Lucille- I would be very excited to meet a Lucille.
Vivian- Eh.
Delia- I would love to meet a Delia. It is a lovely name.
Birdie- Ditto.
Marigold- Not the biggest fan of names with ‘gold’ in it, but I think this is growing on me. I would be excited to meet one.

I adore your taste, I really do. My personal favourites: Betsy, Edie, Olive, Genevieve, Hattie, Minnie, Hermione, Billie, Dulcie, Agatha, Bessie, Lucille, Delia and Birdie.

I hope none of that came across as harsh: if it did, my apologies. You have so many lovely names.

Nice list however I would omit:
[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] (oddity)
[name_f]Ethel[/name_f]
[name_f]Doris[/name_f]
[name_f]Agatha[/name_f],
[name_f]Dora[/name_f]
[name_f]Dulcie[/name_f]
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f]
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f]
However, with the right sounding first name these wold make great middles!

Nicknames:
[name_f]Lottie[/name_f] - very nickname-y. I would assume she was a [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f].
[name_f]Edie[/name_f] - quite nickname-y. I would assume she was an [name_f]Edith[/name_f].
[name_f]Dulcie[/name_f] - Too pet name-y for me (I speak Spanish so this is like Sweetie for me)
[name_f]Bessie[/name_f] - too nickname-y
[name_f]Nettie[/name_f] - too nickname-y.

Associations:
[name_f]Minnie[/name_f] - Very nickname-y to me. Also very [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] Mouse. I don’t like that.
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] - Like, but immediately associate with [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m].
[name_f]Agatha[/name_f] - I immediately think of [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] [name_u]Christie[/name_u].
[name_f]Dora[/name_f] - [name_f]Dora[/name_f] the [name_u]Explorer[/name_u]
[name_f]Essie[/name_f] - very popular nail polish, but don’t mind it.

Too “old lady” for me:
[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] - not really excited about this one.
[name_f]Ethel[/name_f] - not really a fan, but it’s fine.
[name_f]Doris[/name_f] - don’t like

I really like [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], [name_f]Effie[/name_f], [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_f]Marie[/name_f], [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f], and [name_u]Vivian[/name_u].

[name_f]Lottie[/name_f] - ohmygoodness, after I ate her all up, I’d hug and kiss her parents for picking such a darling, adorable, sweet, vintagey name. I adore it, and I love the majority of your combos for it (I want [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] back!).
[name_f]Betsy[/name_f] - it’s not my favorite, but I don’t hate it. I know a cute little [name_f]Betsy[/name_f] (whose full name is Betz@be, so I feel like just [name_f]Betsy[/name_f] is a much better alternative, haha!) that has made me like it much more.
[name_f]Edie[/name_f] - I think its nicknamey, but sweet. I like [name_f]Edith[/name_f], [name_u]Eden[/name_u], and [name_f]Evie[/name_f] all much more than [name_f]Edie[/name_f], but I know an ADORABLE [name_f]Edyn[/name_f] who I call almost exclusively [name_f]Edie[/name_f], and she’s totally made me appreciate [name_f]Edie[/name_f].
[name_f]Polly[/name_f] - oh, dear, I just don’t understand this. [name_f]Holly[/name_f], I can sort of see. It’s sorta bland and dated, but I still like it (especially as a middle). [name_f]Molly[/name_f], I can appreciate, even though I don’t really like it. [name_f]Lolly[/name_f] I think is cute, but sort of a joke (it just sounds ridiculous to me). But [name_f]Polly[/name_f]? It sounds more respectable than [name_f]Lolly[/name_f], but I just don’t think it’s cute at all, but too cutesy to be a full name. I just don’t get it. I wouldn’t vocalize it, but this is just one of those names I don’t get, and if you want an honest response, I’d be quite disappointed. :frowning: I just irrationally dislike [name_f]Polly[/name_f], though.
[name_f]Olive[/name_f] - see [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]!
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] - I’ve just never seen how [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] was modernized. It’s still an old hag’s name for me, and I don’t think it sounds appealing at all. :frowning: I can’t even imagine a [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] being cute or sweet or spunky; I really dislike [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], sorry!
[name_f]Miriam[/name_f] - Well, the two Miriams I do know/have known have been amazing ladies who were mentors and friends, so even though I’m not a HUGE fan of the name, I do love [name_f]Miri[/name_f] as a nn, and I think [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] is quite lovely. It has feel-good vibes to it that I like.
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] - who wouldn’t like [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]? She’s gorgeous. I especially love [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] and [name_f]Evie[/name_f] as nns, but also [name_f]Neve[/name_f]/[name_f]Niamh[/name_f] and [name_f]Gen[/name_f].
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] - I’ve been thinking of adding this myself! I like it a lot.
[name_f]Hattie[/name_f] - sweet. I still like [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] way more, but I’d be happy to meet a little [name_f]Hattie[/name_f].
[name_f]Minnie[/name_f] - With [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] the Mouse, [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] just seems ridiculously old-fashioned and cutesy all at once; I wish I could take [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] serious, but I can’t.
[name_f]Hermione[/name_f] - I would think her parents were HUGE HP nerds, lol. I think [name_f]Hera[/name_f], [name_f]Maya[/name_f], and even [name_f]Nonna[/name_f]/[name_f]Nona[/name_f]/[name_f]Mia[/name_f] are cute nns, but I just can’t get behind it fully. Probably because I never cared for HP at all.
[name_u]Billie[/name_u] - I think [name_u]Billie[/name_u]'s adorable as a nn (I really like [name_f]Sybilla[/name_f] nn [name_u]Billie[/name_u]!), but it’s just too masculine for a full name for me. I feel the same way about [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and [name_f]Leni[/name_f] vs. [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Eleni[/name_f]/[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]/etc.
[name_f]Marnie[/name_f] - It feels very British to me, and very unappealing in sound. I like [name_f]Mamie[/name_f] much more.
[name_f]Effie[/name_f] - haha, I just think of [name_f]Effie[/name_f] from The Hunger Games! I’ve never thought it was that appealing, but it’s not ugly, by any means. I know of a family who has a little [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] nn [name_f]Effie[/name_f]. I also know someone who had [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Effie[/name_f] as her top choice for a girl, too. I think it’s okay, just not my favorite.
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f] - sweet, spunky, literary, vintage. Who could hate [name_f]Cecily[/name_f]?
[name_f]Marie[/name_f] - it’s my MN, and I am largely not a fan, but I kind of think I’d like to meet a little [name_f]Marie[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Em[/name_f]/M and [name_u]Ari[/name_u] are cute nns, but I do vastly prefer [name_f]Maria[/name_f].
[name_f]Dulcie[/name_f] - too cutesy/sickeningly sweet for me, and I can’t really see it on a kid, but it’s not a bad name.
[name_f]Nellie[/name_f] - erm, yeah, too cutesy/childish. I know you like these cutesy names, and I think they’re usable to an extent, and I am all for just [name_f]Nell[/name_f], even, but I can’t get into [name_f]Nellie[/name_f]. I am not really a [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] fan in general, though, so I can’t say I’d be thrilled to meet a little [name_f]Nellie[/name_f].
[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] - I think it’s a little old-fashioned, but still really sweet! I love [name_f]Liv[/name_f] as a nn.
[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] - lovelovelove [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]! I’d be thrilled to meet a little one with the name.
[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] - I’ve always found [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] hard to appreciate (too [name_m]German[/name_m]-feeling for me), but I do like the nns [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] and [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]!
[name_f]Agatha[/name_f] - I like [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] quite a lot again! I used to like it and [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] about equally, then I preferred [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] and only [name_f]Agnes[/name_f], but I’m coming around to [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] again. I might even prefer it to [name_f]Agnes[/name_f]…
[name_f]Bessie[/name_f] - too much cow for me. I like [name_f]Betsy[/name_f] much more.
[name_f]Dora[/name_f] - too [name_f]Dora[/name_f] the explorer, but I have met/know several Doras, and they’re all lovely. [name_f]Every[/name_f] time I hear [name_f]Dora[/name_f] brought up, though, my coworkers snicker. I don’t think they realize it’s a real name outside of [name_f]Dora[/name_f] the [name_u]Explorer[/name_u], haha!
[name_f]Vera[/name_f] - gorgeous and very old-timey, but I vastly prefer [name_f]Verity[/name_f].
[name_f]Essie[/name_f] - I don’t really get it. It sounds like two letters, SE, to me, not really a name. I hear it as a nn for [name_f]Esther[/name_f] occasionally, but I like Estey/[name_f]Estie[/name_f]/Esty much more.
[name_f]Ethel[/name_f] - oh, wow, yeah, despite [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_m]Allen[/name_m], still very much an old hag name for me. Not bad, but I like [name_f]Edith[/name_f] far more.
[name_f]Doris[/name_f] - oh, dear, sorry, I know you’ve grown to like it after [name_f]Johannah[/name_f] Poulston used it, but I think it’s awful. :frowning: [name_f]Dora[/name_f], yeah, but [name_f]Doris[/name_f], no. Probably has to do with the fact that the strongest [name_f]Doris[/name_f] connection in my eyes is probably the equivalent of a British chav.
[name_f]Nettie[/name_f] - reminds me of fishing nets and nettles, so nah, not for me, and I don’t get the appeal. I think [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] and [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] work much better.
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f] - sweet. I generally prefer [name_f]Lucilla[/name_f], but I do like [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] now, too.
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u] - it’s nice. I prefer [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], but I still like [name_u]Vivian[/name_u].
[name_f]Delia[/name_f] - I know a very nice lady named [name_f]Delia[/name_f]! I think of the catalogue, but [name_f]Delia[/name_f] is nice. I like the fuller [name_f]Adelia[/name_f] or [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] more, though.
[name_f]Birdie[/name_f] - too cutesy for me. I guess it’s probably how some people see [name_m]Bear[/name_m], though, and I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]Bear[/name_m] on a guy.
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f] - sweet, but not namey enough for me. I do [name_f]ADORE[/name_f] some of its nicknames, though! ([name_f]Mari[/name_f], [name_u]Ari[/name_u], [name_f]Goldie[/name_f], [name_f]Em[/name_f]…)

I maintain my opinion that there’s really nothing wrong with any of these, though, and that some of them are really [name_m]WORTH[/name_m] reviving, even if they’re not loved instantly. Your love for them is what really matters, though, not what a stranger says. [name_f]Lottie[/name_f], [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f], [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f], [name_f]Agatha[/name_f], [name_f]Lucille[/name_f], [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], and [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] are my favorites.

Faves: [name_f]Lottie[/name_f], [name_f]Edie[/name_f], [name_f]Hattie[/name_f], [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] (although I always have a hard time spelling it, but the [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] association is really nice actually), [name_u]Billie[/name_u], [name_f]Marie[/name_f], [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f], [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f], [name_u]Vivian[/name_u].

Ones I’d lose: [name_f]Betsy[/name_f], [name_f]Polly[/name_f], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f], [name_f]Ethel[/name_f], [name_f]Doris[/name_f] and [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] as they either have connections or are just too much in the “old lady” category for me.

All the rest are “ok” but there’s some really nice names on this list
