How would you say it?

So I thought we had settled on a name for our little girl but now my husband is having second thoughts due to the spelling mostly. We had agreed on [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] (pronounced [name_u]KYE[/name_u]-ah) but now he is changing his mind because the [name_u]Kai[/name_u]- spelling is too ‘hawaiian’ for him. He lived in hawaii and has nothing against it but feels that it sounds a bit odd or offensive taking native hawaiian names and using them if you are not from there. So he wants to spell it [name_f]Caia[/name_f] but in my opinion that is too difficult for most people to pronounce correctly. We already have a difficult last name that she will have to spell out every time. I don’t want to stick her with a first name that is never said right either. So help me out- what do you think? [name_m]How[/name_m] would you say [name_f]Caia[/name_f] if you saw it written down and do you think most people will get it right?

When I saw the name [name_f]Caia[/name_f] for the first time, it wasn’t difficult to understand how it’s pronounced. I do think that most people will get it right. I’d go with [name_f]Caia[/name_f], I like this spelling much better.

[name_u]KYE[/name_u]-ah. It’s nice name.

I’d pronounce [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] and [name_f]Caia[/name_f] the same - ‘[name_u]Kye[/name_u]-ah’

[name_f]Caia[/name_f] and [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] are both “[name_u]KYE[/name_u]-ah” for me. [name_f]Caia[/name_f] would be the [name_m]Roman[/name_m] version from the male name [name_m]Caius[/name_m]. I think the “C” spelling is more polished and elegant.

[name_m]Both[/name_m] are pronounced the same. I think [name_f]Caia[/name_f] looks better.

In Denmark, we say [name_u]KYE[/name_u]-uh as well. It’s relatively common here actually but predominantly spelled [name_f]Kaja[/name_f]. I think it’s such a lovely name.

I would pronounce it the same, [name_u]KYE[/name_u]-uh.

Thank you all for you help. I guess it isn’t too unusual (maybe just around where we live people don’t seem to ever have seen it with a C) This helps out so much to know that most people will pronounce it right.

I pronounce them the same way too: [name_u]Kye[/name_u]-ah.

I pronounce [name_f]Caia[/name_f] and [name_f]Kaia[/name_f] the same. The “c” spelling looks a lot better to me.
