I would have may spelt with a ‘Y’ just because that’s my middle name and some others in my family.
I get a bit worried leia … Might get pronounced as “lee-a?”
I think the name [name_f]Leia[/name_f] is well known enough that it won’t get pronounced [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-a. [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars is popular across many generations so I doubt you’ll run into any issues with it.
That is fair enough. I just think the other spelling sits a little better with [name_f]Leia[/name_f], but it’s your choice! [name_f]May[/name_f]/[name_f]Mae[/name_f] is pretty wither way.
I don’t think so. [name_f]Leia[/name_f] is a pretty iconic name (thank you, [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars) and most people know how to say it. I’ve never heard anyone say it as “lee-ah”. I think the spelling [name_f]Leigha[/name_f] is asking for it to be pronouced wrong. If you are after “lay-ah”, then stick with [name_f]Leia[/name_f].
I have the same problem with this name! I think the spelling [name_f]Leia[/name_f] is much prettier, but has the potential to be mispronounced. I think it looks so much better, though, that this spelling is worth the risk of some mispronunciation. Good luck!
I would use [name_f]Leia[/name_f]- it’s the only spelling that isn’t pronounced more than one way. (e.g. [name_f]Lea[/name_f] or [name_f]Leah[/name_f] can be lee-ah, [name_f]Leigha[/name_f] also could be as [name_u]Leigh[/name_u] is pronounced both “lee” and “lay”.) I’ve never seen a [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars movie (gasp!) and still know that [name_f]Leia[/name_f], as in [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Leia[/name_f], is pronounced lay-ah, so I think it’s a pretty common reference.
Well some of you might not think it will be miss pronounced but 3 people have said now “couldn’t it get
Miss pronounced spelt [name_f]Leia[/name_f]” … And I think it would be so annoying if it wasn’t pronounced properly.
I think if we pick the name I will spell it Layah [name_f]May[/name_f]…
Personally I think the pronunciation of [name_f]Leia[/name_f] is well-known because of [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars. I live in the UK if it makes a difference.
I think [name_f]May[/name_f] is very pretty, but I’m not a fan of the [name_f]Leia[/name_f]/Layah [name_f]May[/name_f] combo. When I say it out loud, the names run together.
I think [name_f]Leia[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] is wonderful; Layah feels very complicated, especially with the added -h; [name_f]Laya[/name_f] might be a better third option?!
With this spelling of [name_f]May[/name_f], I also think [name_f]Leia[/name_f] looks the best as the letters/letter combinations “ay” isn’t as present.
I think the [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars link makes [name_f]Leia[/name_f] well known enough for it to be unlikely to be mispronounced, I am another who has never seen [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars and I knew how to pronounce it.
I personally think Layah holds more problems, if you hadn’t otherwise stated I would have thought to pronounce it similar to [name_f]Maya[/name_f]. I also think the Layah spelling looks overly complicated.
