My best friend is an [name_f]Alison[/name_f], so that one is most natural to me, but [name_u]Allison[/name_u] is also normal. I would ask “one L or two?” since that’s what people always ask me (I’m a [name_f]Lily[/name_f]).

My sister-in-law is [name_f]Alison[/name_f], and it took me years to stop spelling it with two Ls.

I instinctively go for single ‘L’ but would still ask, as I do with every name which has an alternative spelling so that I can get it right.

That’s what I’m afraid of… that because of the various spellings she would have to spell it out every time anyways. That’s enough for me to rule it out. Too bad because I otherwise like the name and so does my husband (very rare!)

Interesting to see so many saying [name_f]Alison[/name_f]! My husband and I both instinctively use two.

I would either say [name_f]Alison[/name_f] or [name_u]Allison[/name_u]. I know a few of both. I would probably just ask “One L or two?” if I had to spell it out.
