I considered posting this in the Writer’s Corner because it is concerning a book character’s name, but figured that since i’m looking for how to spell a name to achieve the pronunciation i’m looking for I decided to post it here.
[name_m]How[/name_m] would you spell the name Uh-marr-iss?
I’ve been considering [name_f]Amaris[/name_f], [name_f]Amarys[/name_f], or Amarris/Amarrys but I don’t really like the look of two ‘r’ 's and i’m not sure about the pronunciation of the first two. From what I could gather from googling them, [name_f]Amaris[/name_f] is pronounced more like [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-muh-riss and [name_f]Amarys[/name_f] is pronounced like Uh-marr-ees but I couldn’t find any definite pronunciations so I figured I would ask here.
I prefer the [name_f]Amaris[/name_f] spelling as well. The [name_f]Amarys[/name_f] spelling just makes me think of the word amorous. Not sure why the one letter makes such a difference, but it does.
I definitely believe [name_f]Amaris[/name_f] would be your best shot - it’s the name with the most similar pronunciation to that of which you desire, so I think it would work best.
