Hows Ryka for our first born girl expected in July?

Hello all,
would love to hear all your opinion on RYKA!

we are looking for a international sounding name and like Ryka,
do you have any other suggestions??! pls help us!

thanks

I can’t honestly say that I like it at all. It just doesn’t feel feminine in the slightest to me.

[name]How[/name] do feel about [name]Rivkah[/name], Taika (means ‘magic/spell’ - Finnish name), Iscah (ISH-kah) and [name]Elka[/name]?

I’m not keen on Ryka, I don’t really think the pronunciation is totally clear, and I’m having a hard time finding information on it. To me, an international name would be a name that is recognized in many countries or languages. Ryka doesn’t strike me as falling in to that category, though I guess it could fall under ‘international’ depending on the definition… since it seems to be pretty unfamiliar, maybe it being unfamiliar across the board is what one might consider ‘international’. Or just having ‘international’ be synonymous with ‘not English’.

In terms of similar sounds to Ryka (I’m pronouncing this [name]RYE[/name]-ka in my head, but I could see it being [name]RICK[/name]-a, or even [name]REE[/name]-ka):
[name]Rivka[/name]
[name]Moira[/name]
[name]Marieke[/name]/ [name]Marika[/name]
[name]Mariska[/name]
Radka
[name]Raisa[/name] (this is Russian, Yiddish & Arabic and unrelated to each other. Definitely qualifies as ‘international’ in my books because of that, too)

And some names that I love, that I also consider to be relatively international (by my definition of it):
[name]Lucia[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Flora[/name]
[name]Antonia[/name]
[name]Beata[/name]
[name]Clara[/name]
[name]Virginia[/name]
Seffora (I love Séfora, and I’ve seen Séffora before, too. And [name]Sephora[/name], obviously)

I know a girl called this, but it’s a nickname for [name]Frederika[/name].

I don’t like it, it sounds like a sloppy version of [name]Ryker[/name]. Taika, on the other hand, sounds magical. =) I also like pp suggestions of [name]Rivka[/name], [name]Elka[/name], [name]Marika[/name] and [name]Mariska[/name], but would like to add [name]Annika[/name], [name]Lilika[/name], [name]Bianca[/name], [name]Danica[/name], [name]Eliska[/name], Ariska, [name]Minka[/name], [name]Viveka[/name]/[name]Vivica[/name], [name]Isa[/name], and Priyanka.

Sorry to say, I’m not quite a fan of this for a person. Seems like she might get some teasing throughout school… I first read the name as “Reeka,” so some of her teachers and classmates might too, which sounds like reek.

reek:
Verb: Smell strongly and unpleasantly; stink.
Noun: A foul smell.

And if it is pronounced [name]Rika[/name], it reminds me of 3rd Reich Germany >.<

I am pronouncing it rye-kuh, which to me is the most intuitive. However I think it is a hideous “name.” As far as I know it is a brand of shoes, like runners, not a name.

As for international names, that are actually names how about:

[name]Lucia[/name]
[name]Freya[/name]
[name]Stella[/name]
[name]Maya[/name]
[name]Ophelia[/name]
[name]Octavia[/name]
[name]Georgiana[/name]
[name]Graciela[/name]
[name]Nadia[/name]
[name]Anastasia[/name]
[name]Eva[/name]
[name]Margot[/name]
[name]Margalo[/name]
[name]Mara[/name]
[name]Greta[/name]
[name]Marta[/name]
[name]Liesel[/name]
Jessenia

I love this name! But in the end, it only matters if you like it for your daughter.

I Googled this name and found that it’s a brand of women’s running shoes. [name]Don[/name]'t care for it at all, sorry.

I don’t mind Ryka, to be honest. I’m not sure it deserves the venom! I’m pronouncing it [name]Rye[/name]-Kah, is that correct? As an alternative, however, I do love the suggestion above of [name]Rivkah[/name].

I think its pretty.
