We are having a baby girl and can’t decide on a name, if it was a boy it would be [name]Cohen[/name] [name]Gary[/name] (middle name is my hubs’ father’s name). We have the middle name picked out, [name]Therese[/name], after my mother, but he wants very traditional names, while I lean towards unusual names.
[name]Lydia[/name] [name]Therese[/name] (almost too popular for me)
[name]Grace[/name] [name]Therese[/name] (just don’t like)
[name]Isabella[/name] [name]Therese[/name] (I don’t like how popular this name is)
[name]Danika[/name] [name]Therese[/name] (like but not a fan of initials)
Our last name is [name]Davis[/name] so I worry about initials that would be DD (since the ladies in our family are all well-endowed!)
We need help bad!! Maybe if I come up with a convincing enough argument I can sneak in one of my “weird” names!
My favorite on your list is [name]Tansy[/name] and then make the mn one that is his favorite, like [name]Tansy[/name] [name]Isabella[/name] or [name]Tansy[/name] [name]Grace[/name] and even [name]Tansy[/name] [name]Lydia[/name]
Out of your combos I like:
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Therese[/name] - tell him what girl wouldn’t want to be named after a princess?
[name]Saskia[/name] [name]Therese[/name] - I have always loved [name]Saskia[/name]. It’s interesting
[name]Elodie[/name] [name]Therese[/name] - I love [name]Elodie[/name], it’s kind of vintagey classic, [name]IMO[/name].
Names he likes:
[name]Lydia[/name] [name]Therese[/name] - I don’t find this too popular at all. I love [name]Lydia[/name].
I agree with [name]Danika[/name], I wouldn’t give her the DD initials!!
I would eliminate [name]Grace[/name] and [name]Danika[/name] because they don’t sound good with [name]Davis[/name]. [name]Elodie[/name] [name]Davis[/name] has repetitive hard “d” sounds.
Airemie looks odd and [name]Anezka[/name] seems too exotic with your surname. [name]Tansy[/name] sounds too cutesy. [name]Reverie[/name] is a trendy word name that I don’t think would age well. Your husband doesn’t like [name]Saskia[/name] or [name]Bryony[/name] so I would eliminate them if you don’t think he’ll come around. [name]Shame[/name] because I like them too!
My faves:
1 [name]Aurora[/name] ([name]Rory[/name]) [name]Davis[/name] - both the full name and the nn flow with your surname
2 [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Davis[/name] - the “d” is offset by the “a” at the end of [name]Lydia[/name] so it doesn’t sound as harsh as [name]Elodie[/name] [name]Davis[/name]
3 [name]Isabella[/name] [name]Davis[/name] - very popular but it’s a classic name that ages well.
Beautiful names [name]IMO[/name]! My favorite of yours is [name]Aurora[/name] [name]Therese[/name]. Stunning and [name]Rory[/name] is darling. [name]Will[/name] he budge on this? [name]Saskia[/name] is so pretty but has kind of a strange/negative meaning - not sure if this is important to you. If you go with [name]Elodie[/name] than you can pick a more mainstream nn, like [name]Elle[/name] or [name]Ellie[/name]. Would that make him happy. I also really like [name]Lydia[/name] from his choices and think this is popular at all, at least not where I live. Other suggestions:
[name]Saskia[/name], [name]Elodie[/name] and [name]Aurora[/name] are the most accessible on your list, and if he simply doesn’t like [name]Saskia[/name] I would stick with the [name]Aurora[/name] and [name]Elodie[/name] options if I were you (you didn’t say how he feels about those two). I prefer [name]Aurora[/name] with your surname.
[name]Elodie[/name] is similar enough in sound to [name]Lydia[/name] that you may be able to ‘argue’ that angle, but honestly, I wouldn’t argue anything. You want to find a name you both [name]LOVE[/name].
I wouldn’t worry about initials DD, for the record… if that’s the only hold up.
Perhaps spend some time on Nymbler? I entered some of your and his favorites and got (among others):
[name]Isadora[/name] (this is a nice marriage of [name]Aurora[/name] and [name]Isabella[/name], perhaps a compromise?)
[name]Elisa[/name]
[name]Antonia[/name]
[name]Claudia[/name]
[name]Adina[/name]
[name]Serena[/name]
[name]Sidonia[/name]
My favourite would be [name]Saskia[/name] [name]Therese[/name], shame your husband doesn’t like it. Although, having said that, it’s completely unusuable if you think about the initials - STD aka “sexually transmitted disease”. I think [name]Aurora[/name] [name]Therese[/name] is lovely though, and I think [name]Cohen[/name] & [name]Aurora[/name] are nice together, if you have more children after this little girl. [name]Elodie[/name] [name]Davis[/name] sounds a bit awkward, but it’s still cute. I love [name]Lydia[/name] as well, I don’t usually see it as popular but I could be wrong. You might like [name]Lydie[/name] or [name]Leocadia[/name] instead?
My suggestions for you would be: [name]Lydie[/name] [name]Therese[/name] [name]Davis[/name], [name]Leocadia[/name] [name]Therese[/name] [name]Davis[/name], [name]Anna[/name] [name]Therese[/name] [name]Davis[/name], [name]Leila[/name] [name]Therese[/name] [name]Davis[/name], Tabitah [name]Therese[/name] [name]Davis[/name], [name]Amelie[/name] [name]Therese[/name] [name]Davis[/name], [name]Johanna[/name] [name]Therese[/name] [name]Davis[/name], [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Therese[/name] [name]Davis[/name], [name]Raya[/name] or [name]Raina[/name] [name]Therese[/name] [name]Davis[/name], , [name]Cecelia[/name] [name]Therese[/name] [name]Davis[/name], [name]Leda[/name] [name]Therese[/name] [name]Davis[/name], [name]Anastasia[/name] [name]Therese[/name] [name]Davis[/name], [name]Evanna[/name] [name]Therese[/name] [name]Davis[/name].
I think I have narrowed it down to these 3 to make a case for:
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Therese[/name]
[name]Love[/name] the nn and the meaning. And he is willing to consider this one.
[name]Saskia[/name] [name]Therese[/name]
Willing to make a strong case for this one somehow… not sure how yet but I love this name. Its different and not very common but still a name that has some history. Anybody know of a way to make a strong argument for this name?
[name]Elodie[/name] [name]Therese[/name]
I was trying to stay away from elle names since they are so common but this one might be different enough. He is willing to consider this one too.
and [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Therese[/name] would be one from his list that I am willing to agree on just not sure that its “the one.”
Eventho I have ruled out [name]Anezka[/name], I still love it, I am half czech and love that it is the czech version of [name]Agnes[/name] because I have always loved [name]Agnes[/name] just not the old lady feel it has attached to it.
The reason I have such an aversion to popular names is because I grew up with having 5 Kristens in each of my classes and then going on to College and having 6 Kristens on the same floor of my dorm and always wanting to change my name.
What about [name]Annika[/name]? Its similar to [name]Danika[/name] but without the D and sounds a bit lie [name]Anezka[/name] as well? Good compromise? [name]Annika[/name] [name]Therese[/name] [name]Davis[/name].
Too bad about the STD with [name]Saskia[/name] because that was my favorite from your list. The other one’s I like are [name]Bryony[/name] [name]Therese[/name] and [name]Aurora[/name] [name]Therese[/name].
From his list I like [name]Lydia[/name]. [name]Lydia[/name] is so cute despite it’s popularity.
I love both names about equally. Since the middle name is from your side of the family, I think your husband’s wishes should be taken into consideration all the more for the first name.
P.S. I don’t consider [name]Lydia[/name] too popular at all! I don’t know anyone with the name.
[name]Bryony[/name], [name]Aurora[/name] and [name]Lydia[/name] are my favorites. I also like the suggestion of [name]Annika[/name]. [name]Lydia[/name] has loooong been a favorite of mine and I only know one little girl with that name, so I don’t consider it popular at all.
