Hubby says no to every name except Joseph!

My husband was close with his grandfather, named [name]Joseph[/name] ([name]Joe[/name]), and would really like to name our next baby after him. I like the name … but it isn’t the be all and end all for me. I’ve been trying to come up with other name options, but he has said no to most thus far. We have a daughter named [name]Claire[/name] and a son named [name]Ross[/name]. It’s a miracle he agreed to [name]Ross[/name], because we went through the same [name]Joseph[/name] dilemma there.

Here are some of the names I like. xx beside the name means my hubby has said absolutely no way and the remainder he won’t really ‘bite’ on. It keeps coming back to [name]Joseph[/name].

[name]Isaac[/name] xx
[name]Gregor[/name] xx
[name]Drew[/name]
[name]Willem[/name] xx
[name]Charlie[/name]
[name]Ian[/name]
[name]Ewen[/name] xx
[name]Peter[/name]
[name]Ryan[/name]

I’m looking for some new names, along the same lines of these names, that my hubby might go for! [name]Heaven[/name] forbid he come up with some himself

MNs are a great way to honor relatives- has he thought about that? From your list, I love [name]Peter[/name] and [name]Charlie[/name]. [name]Peter[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] would be very cute

Here are some other suggestions:

[name]Miles[/name]
[name]James[/name]
[name]Julian[/name]
[name]Tristan[/name]
[name]Jack[/name]
[name]Maxwell[/name]
[name]Owen[/name]
[name]Harry[/name]
[name]Luke[/name]
[name]William[/name]
[name]Toby[/name]
[name]Hugh[/name]
[name]Niall[/name]
[name]Kai[/name]
[name]David[/name]

Honestly, I think you should just use [name]Joseph[/name] since it has so much meaning for your husband. It sounds like [name]Ross[/name] was your pick so I think it’s only fair to let your husband have [name]Joseph[/name].

My SO is set on [name]Joseph[/name] as well. I got him to agree to consider [name]Josiah[/name], though…

I say use [name]Joseph[/name]. It is a gorgeous, handsome, traditional name. Your husband loves it soooo much and it obviously has a lot of meaning to him. I agree with pp that he let you have the name you want with [name]Ross[/name]. It is his turn to use a name that is very significant to him.

[name]Ian[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] would be so handsome with your other children’s names!

[name]Joseph[/name] [name]Charlie[/name], [name]Joseph[/name] [name]Ian[/name], [name]Joseph[/name] [name]Ryan[/name], and [name]Joseph[/name] [name]Peter[/name] are all really nice combos.

I hate to take sides in things like this, but it sounds like the name means a lot to your husband, and considering it wasn’t used with your first son, I think now would be a really nice time to honor it.

I wouldn’t just go with [name]Joseph[/name] if you don’t love it, put it in the middle name spot! I know others have said you should let you husband have this pick but I couldn’t do that if I didn’t love the name.

[name]How[/name] about…
[name]Elliot[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]
[name]Aidan[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]
[name]Corben[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]
[name]Drake[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]
[name]Emmett[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]
[name]Evan[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]
[name]Liam[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]
[name]Oscar[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]
[name]Finn[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]
[name]Samson[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]
[name]Rhys[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]

[name]Joseph[/name] is really cute, and it fits nicely with [name]Ross[/name] and [name]Claire[/name]. And you can call him [name]Joe[/name]!

To be honest, I think you’re being a little unfair. [name]Joseph[/name] obviously means a lot to your husband, and would it really pain you to have [name]Joseph[/name] in your son’s name? Since you picked [name]Ross[/name], let your husband pick [name]Joseph[/name].

[name]Joseph[/name] (a name you love) or (a name you love) [name]Joseph[/name] would be a great compromise.

I like [name]Joseph[/name]! I would at least give it as a middle name… Make the poor guy happy :).

I admit I, on pure aesthetics, prefer [name]Joel[/name] and [name]Josiah[/name] to [name]Joseph[/name].

But I think that since you don’t have one clear favourite of your own and are just casting around for ideas, and it sounds like you “got your way” the first time… and because [name]Joseph[/name] is pretty classic and doesn’t go badly with your other kids’ names… I would strongly consider [name]Joseph[/name] for the first name and taking free reign of the middles?

[name]Joseph[/name] [name]Drew[/name] is pretty handsome.

Prefer [name]Ronan[/name] or [name]Rowan[/name] to [name]Ryan[/name], personally.

Dislike [name]Peter[/name], but like [name]Patrick[/name] and [name]Piers[/name] or [name]Pierce[/name].

[name]Gregory[/name] over [name]Gregor[/name]. Or [name]Griffin[/name], [name]Gabriel[/name], [name]Gareth[/name], [name]Gavin[/name], [name]Gideon[/name].

Thanks for the opinions everyone … definitely made me think a little more about the situation. [name]Don[/name]'t get me wrong - [name]Joseph[/name] is definitely a top contender, but I just want to make sure we’ve seriously considered other options as you only get to name your child once:) Most certainly [name]Joseph[/name] would be a middle name if it were not a first name. I should have mentioned that initially, but to be honest, middle names are so rarely used that [name]Joesph[/name] in the middle name position is a big step down from the top spot

[name]Claire[/name] was actually a name that my husband had suggested, he had always imagined having a little girl with that name … but it took me a few years to come around to it. I would say the same is happening for [name]Joseph[/name] … I’m coming around. [name]Ross[/name] was my suggestion and my husband was 100% on board with it on the big day. Believe it or not, he does actually have some reluctance with [name]Joseph[/name] as well … primarily because of the frequency it has been used in his family. Along with his grandfather, his father and uncle both have the middle name [name]Joseph[/name] and his own middle name is [name]Joseph[/name]. But [name]Joe[/name] is pretty cute, isn’t it? And obviously there is a lot of meaning.

[name]Ian[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] is probably my personal favourite at the moment. We are both fans of the traditional … so some of the variations suggested, like [name]Josiah[/name], just aren’t quite our style.

[name]Luke[/name] and [name]Samson[/name] were two suggestions that caught my eye. [name]Samson[/name] is a nice variant of [name]Samuel[/name], which seems to be everywhere these days.

I just read the responses to my husband … he says ‘told you so’. Fair enough.

Thanks again everyone

[name]Claire[/name], [name]Ross[/name], and [name]Ian[/name] would be great as siblings!

i agree with this

I love [name]Joseph[/name], and especially [name]Joey[/name] for a little boy! We’ve definitely considered it for our little boy on the way, but it doesn’t work with the last name. Otherwise, I like [name]Ian[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] and it goes well with his siblings.
