Wow- so many ideas here. [name]Do[/name] the asterisks mean anything?
[name]Mavis[/name]* - An acquired taste. I think it can be fabulous in a horn-rimmed glasses kind of way, but choosing it might limit future baby names, know what I mean? If you have a daughter named [name]Mavis[/name], you’d want a son named [name]Clark[/name] or [name]Harvey[/name], a second daughter named [name]Gladys[/name] or [name]Shirley[/name].
[name]Xanthe[/name] - An exotic but also minimal possibility. Too cold for me - reminds me of xanthum gum - though objectively I think it’s a good name. I much prefer [name]Xenia[/name].
[name]Finnegan[/name]* - Boy boy boy.
[name]Foster[/name] - Boy, beer, adoption.
[name]Guinevere[/name]* - Beautiful. So beautiful. Too beautiful? A bit damsel-in-distress… The options of nns [name]Gwen[/name] or [name]Winnie[/name] make it wearable.
[name]Garnet[/name] - I love this. Really interesting. Sparkly, but not over-the-top.
[name]Elliott[/name] [name]Blythe[/name] ([name]Ellie[/name]) - Not my style. [name]Blythe[/name] is great, but I detest [name]Ellie[/name].
[name]Everette[/name] [name]Bryce[/name] ([name]Evie[/name]) - I dislike the sound and the look of this one.
[name]Emerson[/name] [name]Estelle[/name] ([name]Emery[/name]) - I’m not wild about surname first-names, especially on girls. [name]Estelle[/name] is very pretty.
[name]Gannon[/name]* - What is [name]Gannon[/name]? Doesn’t feel “name-ish” to me. I think of backgammon.
[name]Raquel[/name] - Dated.
[name]Sagan[/name] [name]Ottilie[/name]* - [name]Ottilie[/name] is fabulous. [name]Sagan[/name] like [name]Carl[/name] [name]Sagan[/name]? If you’re really into astronomy/astrophysics, there are so many possibilities that might be prettier. Names of stars, types of stars, constellations… [name]Ottilie[/name] [name]Nova[/name]?
Sovannary [name]Ophelia[/name]* - Sovannary is quite a mouthful. I love the sound of [name]Ophelia[/name], though it’s too tragic for me.
[name]Rhiannon[/name] [name]Blake[/name]* - [name]Rhiannon[/name] is excellent excellent, though imo it needs a middle name that will brighten/lighten it, and [name]Blake[/name] is not that.
[name]Lennox[/name]* - No.
[name]Auden[/name] - Though I love WH [name]Auden[/name], I find it slightly strange as a first name. Close to [name]Aidan[/name], so I’d assume [name]Auden[/name] to be a boy.
[name]Thisbe[/name]* - Neat. I like this. Mythological and shadowy, but it also has really cheerful sounds, and the nn [name]Bee[/name].
[name]Isla[/name] - Overused, but lovely.
[name]Inez[/name]* - A good one. Like [name]Esme[/name], but without the pop-culture connection. I like [name]Agnes[/name] and Inés too.
[name]Collins[/name] - No!
Monti - For a boy, as [name]Montgomery[/name] nn [name]Monty[/name].
[name]Max[/name] - [name]Maxine[/name] nn [name]Max[/name] could be spunky, but [name]Max[/name] as a standalone girl name is unfortunate.
[name]Zelpha[/name] [name]Dolores[/name] (grandmothers names) - Clunky but kind of wonderful. I like the idea of a [name]Dolores[/name], who you call “[name]Dot[/name],” and who doesn’t love a Z-name? I love [name]Zelda[/name] even more. [name]Zelda[/name] [name]Dolores[/name], [name]Dolores[/name] [name]Zelpha[/name] “[name]Dot[/name].”
[name]Reese[/name] - The only female [name]Reese[/name] I know of is Witherspoon. I dislike it.
[name]Lincoln[/name]* - Sure. A bit predictable, but very sturdy and wearable.
[name]Sebastian[/name]* - Yes.
[name]Hollis[/name]* - Yes. [name]Love[/name] this- subtly tree-related, but clean and serious.
[name]Marshall[/name]* - Handsome, but I’m not so into the soldier connotations.
[name]Dermot[/name]* - I think “dirty varmint”
Theoren* - Theorem? No.
[name]Thaddeus[/name]* - A cool possibility. Part of the rugged-Biblical, complicated, old-mannish name trend. But it would need a similarly weighty sibling name.
[name]Beckett[/name]* - If I knew someone named [name]Beckett[/name], I would torment him with stupid jokes about existential angst. [name]Malone[/name] or [name]Murphy[/name] would be less pretentious.
[name]Conrad[/name] [name]Brandt[/name] - [name]Conrad[/name] yes. I find [name]Brandt[/name] very grating. [name]Bran[/name] perhaps? [name]Conrad[/name] [name]Bran[/name] would be lovely.
[name]Grant[/name] - Classic, handsome, presidential.
[name]Dean[/name] - Sexy, simple, retro.
[name]Jude[/name]* - Biblical and handsome, a bit safe for my taste.
[name]Wesley[/name]* - Sweet. Tender like [name]Timothy[/name], but cool and cowboyish at the same time.
[name]Graham[/name]* - Modern and old-fashioned at once. Quite nice.
[name]Harrison[/name] - I’m not wild about the sound. Too suit-and-tie for me… but a perfectly acceptable name.
[name]Reed[/name] - Sleek, organic, minimal. Nice.
