Hudson: Too popular?

We are considering [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] if we have a boy. I only know personally of 2 Hudsons, and both live at least 5 hours away from us. However, I have a feeling it is going to become increasingly more popular, and since I already have a son whose name zoomed to popularity ([name_u]Mason[/name_u]) I don’t really want to use another name that is destined to end up on the Top 5 list.

I also like [name_m]Houston[/name_m], what do you think of that name?

I am a teacher of 9 years with a school of 630 students, and I have yet to come across any Hudsons! If it’s “popular”… only recently so as I have come in contact with SO many different names

I love [name_u]Hudson[/name_u]! I personally don’t know any, and would be happy to use it–but [name_u]Mason[/name_u] also ends in “son”. [name_u]Mason[/name_u] and [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] are way too close for me, personally. I love oodles of -son names, too, but I wouldn’t use [name_m]Grayson[/name_m], [name_u]Emerson[/name_u], and [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] together, either. :frowning:

I also know a total of 0 [name_u]Hudson[/name_u]'s. I don’t think it’s going to become popular any time soon. It’s a bit close to [name_u]Mason[/name_u]'s name though. Not a fan of [name_m]Houston[/name_m] (reminds me of rocket ships and I can’t get that image out of my mind).

[name_u]Hudson[/name_u] reminds me of the guy that killed Robbo in ‘Neighbours’ and there is also a guy called [name_u]Mason[/name_u] on that program so I had to laugh.

I know 2 [name_u]Hudson[/name_u]'s under the age of 3. I think it’s becoming really popular. I don’t even know that any kids!

If you like explorers, try [name_m]Cabot[/name_m].

I’ve never even heard of a single one [name_m]IRL[/name_m].
It’s definitely getting more popular on NB though. I think it will rise, but I doubt it will match [name_u]Mason[/name_u]'s popularity.
What about [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]? You get the [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] sound without the repeated -son ending.

I know one in real life, but spelled Huddson (puke).

Two -son names together seems a bit matchy for siblings (I grew up as an [name_f]Erin[/name_f] with a brother [name_m]Eric[/name_m], so I’m very strongly in favor of avoiding that), but if you love it, use it.

I only know one [name_u]Hudson[/name_u], who’s almost 2. Then again, I don’t know that many kids in general.

I think [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] is quite trendy and I find it [name_m]WAY[/name_m] too similar to [name_u]Mason[/name_u] to use them together.
Best of luck on your name search!

I actually really like the name [name_u]Hudson[/name_u]! Use it!

Might depend where in the world you are but certainly here in the UK it seems to have shot up the charts in the last few years, though I don’t actually know any myself.

I know 1 boy name [name_u]Hudson[/name_u]. I am not sure I would use [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] if you already have a [name_u]Mason[/name_u]. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_u]Hayden[/name_u]. Its cute.

I love [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] and I do not know anyone with this name.
I know a few families with 2 girls whose names ended in -elle. So I have nothing against the -son names.

I only know if one [name_u]Hudson[/name_u], I think he’s about 8 years old.

My number 1 rule when it comes to popularity is Know, don’t guess.
The United States and many other countries keep data on how popular a name is. The data is easily accessible on the internet. Here is the official website for the US:

Here is the data for [name_u]Hudson[/name_u]:

In case the link’s don’t work. [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] in 2011 was #112 in popularity. [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] in 2012 went to #93. It has risen into the top 100 and is expected (by me) to keep rising into possibly the top ten probably not for another 5 or 6 years unless a television character or a celebrity uses it for their kid.
That’s [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] in the whole country. Here’s a link to see if [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] is top 100 in your state.

[name_u]Hudson[/name_u] is a name I really like. It’s one I would use if pregnant currently (which I’m not). I don’t know any Hudsons, but I don’t know any Masons. I don’t know too many little kids, but I know a few. I am not sure popularity matters, but [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] is getting popular.
“[name_m]Houston[/name_m], we have a problem!” (Expect to hear a lot if you pick [name_m]Houston[/name_m], which is not bad and actually interesting but everyone I know knows that phrase.)

Good [name_m]Luck[/name_m]!

The only Hudsons I know are teenagers.
