Hugo, Hugh or Monty?

Help us choose a baby boy name for our baby due in a few weeks! [name_u]Baby[/name_u] will be a sibling for [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] (full name Frederick). We have a girl name sorted but need help with a boy name!

Our favourites are:

[name_m]Hugh[/name_m]
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m]
[name_u]Monty[/name_u]

If we choose [name_u]Monty[/name_u], we would have to give him a full name (similar to our son Frederick), we’d probably go with [name_u]Montgomery[/name_u]. Our surname is a three syllable name beginning with M - [name_u]Monty[/name_u] sounds pretty great with our surname but I fear it’s a big name to wear. [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] and [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] are simpler, more familiar names.

What’s your preference?

PS. (Middle name will be [name_u]Francis[/name_u] or Charles)

[name_u]Love[/name_u] either [name_u]Montgomery[/name_u] ‘Monty’ or [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] ‘Hugh’ (best of both worlds!). What a fabulous sibset

I love them all but [name_u]Monty[/name_u] is my favorite at the moment. It’s so spunky and handsome. [name_u]Monty[/name_u] and [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] are great together!

I was leaning towards [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] as I love him however when I saw that brother is [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] ‘Freddie’ I fell for [name_u]Montgomery[/name_u] ‘Monty’ :blue_heart:

Honestly I think [name_u]Montgomery[/name_u] is the perfect brother for [name_m]Frederick[/name_m]. He’s handsome, distinguished, gentlemanly and so cohesive with [name_m]Frederick[/name_m]. [name_u]Monty[/name_u] is a lovely fun, spunky nickname and works perfectly with [name_u]Freddie[/name_u].

[name_m]Frederick[/name_m] + [name_u]Montgomery[/name_u] such dreamy brothers :sauropod:

With [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] / [name_m]Frederick[/name_m], I really like [name_u]Monty[/name_u]! I think it’s such a sweet choice and while [name_u]Montgomery[/name_u] is a lot of name, he doesn’t have to use it if everyone knows him by [name_u]Monty[/name_u] anyway.

I also love [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] but it seems you really love [name_u]Monty[/name_u]!

[name_u]Montgomery[/name_u] “Monty” is perfect! More unexpected than the other two but equally fitting for Freddie’s brother.

[name_m]Hugo[/name_m], definitely.

I like [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] best, followed by Montgomery/Monty.

monty is one of my absolute favourites !! i wouldn’t worry about names being “too big” given the breeziness of lovely monty. i think monty is brilliant with freddie, but my second choice would be hugo. i’m not a huge fan of hugh though - i knew a few growing up but it just always feels quite ?? stodgy ?? to me. like every hugh is inevitably also fifty-eight years old

Hmm… really had to ponder this one, as they’re all great options!

I agree with others that [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] & [name_u]Monty[/name_u] fit really nicely together. However, I see your dilemma when pairing [name_u]Montgomery[/name_u] with a 3-syllable surname starting with M. I wonder whether a slightly shorter option such as [name_m]Montague[/name_m] or [name_m]Montell[/name_m] could work for the full name?

Alternatively, I think [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] & [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] sound really sweet together, too. Somehow [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] seems to match slightly better than [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], at least to my ear.

(Re middles: [name_u]Montgomery[/name_u] [name_u]Francis[/name_u] sounds a bit too heavy to me, but I really like [name_u]Montgomery[/name_u] [name_u]Charles[/name_u]. [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] goes great with either one, and I like [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_u]Charles[/name_u] too!)

I prefer [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] or [name_m]Hugo[/name_m].

Hugo!!

(If [name_u]Monty[/name_u] was just [name_u]Monty[/name_u] though, I might have been swayed towards that)

Thanks everyone for your feedback - we ended up having a little girl! (BIG surprise).
We named her [name_f]Henriette[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f], nickname Henrie or [name_f]Hennie[/name_f]

Congratulations! [name_f]Henriette[/name_f] [name_u]Francis[/name_u] “Hennie” is adorable!

[name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_u]Charles[/name_u] is a fabulous name!

[name_m]Frederick[/name_m] and [name_u]Montgomery[/name_u] are so handsome together. [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] and [name_u]Monty[/name_u]- so sweet.
