Our baby girl (7th baby) is due in [name_u]July[/name_u] and we are still at a loss for what her name will be. During my last pregnancy at this point we had already decided on [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] and it was perfect. I’m having trouble this time because, who knows, this could be our last child or last daughter and I really want to use a name we both love, that is meaningful, unique and also cohesive with older siblings’ names.
My list of favorites right now comprises of: [name_f]Philomena[/name_f], [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] ([name_m]Simon[/name_m] & Garfunkel, anyone?), [name_f]Zenobia[/name_f], [name_f]Hermione[/name_f], [name_f]Philippa[/name_f] and [name_f]Agnes[/name_f], all very Greek little girls.
My husband’s favorites are: [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f], [name_f]Philomena[/name_f], [name_f]Oriana[/name_f], [name_f]Lavender[/name_f], [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] (to honor me) and [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], based on a song he loves by The Lumineers, which I love as well.
I love all of his name choices and he loves all of mine which is why it’s so difficult to choose. At this point we are focusing more on choosing the first name in order to decide upon the middle. Please help us!
I love [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], and love the thought that she can look back and listen to a song that you liked. Romantic notion, but whenever I met an older person and they sang my name like the song " [name_u]Angie[/name_u]" I was always tickled. But I also like [name_f]Hermione[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] would be perfect with your kids’ names. It’s fresh and unexpected like Larkspur and [name_f]Theda[/name_f], but easy to say like [name_f]Maria[/name_f] and your boys’ names.
My second favorite for you is [name_f]Philippa[/name_f] because I think it’s on the same calm, sophisticated wavelength as the other six names.
I’d cross out/move to the middle: [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] (lovely but too close to Larkspur), [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] and [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] (not as unusual as the other names, so I wouldn’t use as firsts unless you want to swing more toward classics like [name_f]Maria[/name_f])
[name_f]Maria[/name_f]'s name is something we love but it was already her name before she was adopted, so basically we didn’t choose it. We did choose however her middle name of [name_f]Marigold[/name_f].
[name_f]Theda[/name_f] is what we call her 90% of the time but her actual name is [name_f]Theodora[/name_f].
I just thought it was important for you all to know since I forgot to mention before…
[name_u]Angie[/name_u] is a lovely song! Yeah, [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] has that going for her. We can’t help but sing the song when we say it! What turns me off from it is the [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] in [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m]'s [name_m]Hamlet[/name_m] which is problematic. She’s potentially sexually harrassed, goes “mad” supposedly after her father dies and drowns herself to death yikes. It’s beautiful but every bit tragic and I don’t know if I’m willing to overlook that. I know that [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] is a nameberry favorite though… My husband says I’m exaggerating and loves the name to pieces.
I would rule out [name_f]Philipa[/name_f] in case you do have another daughter because [name_f]Philomena[/name_f] is too close. I’d also rule out [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] as its popularity is increasing rapidly and [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] is in the top 200 currently so it’s out too.
I would say go with [name_f]Philomena[/name_f] but clearly whilst you both like it something is holding you back. I don’t know what
I’m going to go with [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] from your list but I want to suggest a few of my own. Your names give me “cabin in the forests of Oregan vibes” so I’m going with that
I’d recommend either [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] or [name_f]Philippa[/name_f]! I think they fit with [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] nicely, but you could always call her [name_f]Nessa[/name_f] or [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] as a nickname to match [name_f]Theda[/name_f].
Larkspur, [name_f]Theda[/name_f], [name_f]Maria[/name_f], and [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] for girls would make a nice sibset.
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Philomena[/name_f] for you and I think it sounds perfect with the sibset but I agree with a pp that something might be holding you back. Other options that I think are really great are [name_f]Oriana[/name_f], [name_f]Philippa[/name_f], and [name_f]Agnes[/name_f]. I also like the suggestion of [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] for you and I would add [name_f]Augusta[/name_f], [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f], [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f], and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f].
Congrats! [name_u]Love[/name_u] your children’s names, and what a great list!
I feel like either [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] or [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] is your best bet. [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] is an all-round beauty, so strong and feminine and velvet, and [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] has that cheerful, happy-go-lucky summery feel. I can’t decide which one I prefer for you!
[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] and [name_f]Philomena[/name_f] are way too clunky for me (and I love me some clunky names), and while I looove [name_f]Hermione[/name_f], I don’t like that she repeats [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]‘s initial. [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] is a bit twee, and [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] is a little too common next to your kids’ names.
[name_f]Philomena[/name_f] stands out to me as you’ve put on both your lists (even if you do both love all the other names, too) and I also like the idea of non Phia.
Apart from that one I also like [name_f]Oriana[/name_f] with your children’s names!
