[name_u]Love[/name_u] both of these equally but differently if that makes sense, I can imagine having a kid named [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] nn. [name_u]Toby[/name_u] a little more than [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], but taste wise I kinda prefer [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] and like Hugh/Huey/Hughes nicknames more than Tobe/Toby/Tobes y’know? And yes I do regularly use nicknames like that for my existing son named [name_u]Arthur[/name_u], and I don’t care if I’m the only one that does that lol. But I think [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] might just be a bit more familiar to me so it’s easier to imagine it in reality.
Possible Full Names:
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m] [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] [name_u]Daniel[/name_u] S. (Arthur & Tobias; [name_m]Arty[/name_m] & Toby)
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] [name_u]Daniel[/name_u] S.
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] [name_u]Daniel[/name_u] S. (Arthur & Hugo; [name_m]Arty[/name_m] & Hugo)
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m] _____ [name_u]Daniel[/name_u] S.
[name_u]Daniel[/name_u] is a very important honor name, [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] is also a family name but not as important, and [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] is the only form of “August” my husband likes and our anniversary month so I thought it’d be cute, but I also feel like [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] is a pretty heavy name. Though I like that it lends to another nickname, [name_u]Gus[/name_u].
I personally prefer [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] ‘Toby’, but if you like [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] more, then you should go for it! Maybe you could do a few tests to see if you really can imagine yourself with a little Hugo/Huey. Try saying out loud a few sentences pretending to be calling [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] down for dinner, waking him up for school, introducing him to family members, that sort of thing!
I love the meaning that [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] has for you, but I think it sounds a little awkward next to [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], and so I prefer the sound of [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_m]Jacob[/name_m]!
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] [name_u]Daniel[/name_u] is wonderful; I adore its sound. I like how the softness of [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] blends with the strength of [name_m]Jacob[/name_m], and then [name_u]Daniel[/name_u] smoothens it out again.
But, considering that his older brother is named [name_u]Arthur[/name_u], [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] “sounds” better in a way. Both [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] and [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] exude an “old man” vibe without being outdated, rather more historical (?).
I love [name_u]Toby[/name_u] because it’s fun, laid-back, and casual, a bit in contrast to [name_m]Tobias[/name_m], that is more serious and focused. Tobias/Toby has a versatility that Hugo/Huey doesn’t have for me, for example (and I love Hugo)
Your point about [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] with [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] makes a lot of sense to me. I also really like the versatility aspect of the name. I also feel like [name_u]Toby[/name_u] looks better than [name_m]Huey[/name_m] (which I would prefer spelt [name_m]Hughie[/name_m] but we spell Arthur’s nickname [name_m]Arty[/name_m] and the mismatched -y and -ie endings would personally bother me) and [name_u]Toby[/name_u] is only spelt one way (typically) so [name_m]Arty[/name_m] & [name_u]Toby[/name_u] comes very naturally compared to [name_m]Arty[/name_m] & [name_m]Huey[/name_m].
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m] is handsome but bubbly and I enjoy the mix of gentle, sharp and bright sounds. It feels both full of energy and laughter but serious and bookish at the same time. [name_u]Toby[/name_u] is fun with a hint of free-spiritedness about it too and I like it a lot.
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m] is clunky-cool and it’s got posh vibes but not in a stuck up way. It feels smart and stylish, but cuddly and fun too and I like how the nicknames give different vibes, making it versatile. (Huey is cute and energetic, [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] is rugged but grounded, [name_m]Hughes[/name_m] is charming and cool). Also, great meaning.
I feel like this has helped in no way because I like both Still, I think I’m liking [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] for you right now, especially the combo [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] [name_u]Daniel[/name_u] (gives you nicknames [name_u]Gus[/name_u] and Hugs!)
Ugh I know I love both so much. I’m playing around with different middle names for [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] to see if that helps but I think I might just have to have both in mind and decide when he’s born.(and if, I’m just assuming I’ll have another boy as there hasn’t been a girl in my husbands family in a couple generations)
