Hugo?

Thoughts? Would you actually use it? Or is it only good in theory? I am expecting my first boy and this is the only name so far that has made my list. I worry it is too uncommon for use in real life! Our daughter has a very unusual name but it seems like with girls it is much easier to get away with an uncommon name! Thanks!

I love the name [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]. Although, I slightly prefer [name_m]Hugh[/name_m].

I’m not a fan. Although I’ve known someone called [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], I just see it as “huge-o.” It’s just not attractive for me.

I love [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], its definitely one I’d consider in the future.

I love [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] and it definitely works in real life

[name_m]Hugo[/name_m] is a great name. Also used frequently in Europe.

I love [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]! And I definitely don’t think it’s unusual. I kind of like that it has hug in it.

[name_m]Hugo[/name_m] is our top choice for baby #2 if it’s a boy. I’ve actually wondered as well if it is too “out there” for our southeastern american family and friends, but we love it so much we can’t find anything that will hold a candle to it!

I really like the name [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] and I know two really lovely little boys with this name.

I would use the name [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] in a heartbeat! It has a vibrant energy and an exotic European flair that I find quite appealing. If your daughter has an unusual name, then [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] would be a great match.

I love [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] and I would use a middle name if I could my boyfriend on board. I say go for it as a first name! It would be nice to meet a little boy with this name

I looove [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]! I don’t think it is too unusual at all, an adorable name and wonderful meaning. [name_f]May[/name_f] I ask what your daughter’s name is?

I love [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] and would definitely use it in real life

I love the name [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]!! I can definitely see it working in real life. It’s on my current crush list =)

Go for it!

I love [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], it’s on my list too. I don’t think it’s unusual, maybe more underused.

I love [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] in theory (or in [name_m]German[/name_m]) but am not a fan of the [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] sound at all. It has no personality whatsoever to me.

Thanks for all of the replies! I appreciate the feedback! Our daughter’s name is [name_f]Mariska[/name_f] (middle name [name_f]Katherine[/name_f])!

I like it, it’s not too common and it’s much better than [name_m]Hugh[/name_m], [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. I love the movie [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] too, but not everyone would think of that when they hear the name. If your daughter has an unusual name then I think you should give your son an unusual name too, and [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] isn’t difficult to pronounce so it’s definitely usable. I know boys with unusual names and they don’t have any trouble with them and I can’t see any obvious teasing potential for [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]. So if you love it, go for it!

I think the -o ending makes [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] fresh again. I love the name [name_m]Hugh[/name_m], but I think it’s just a little too fusty to give to any little boy, even with the vintage revival. When I think of [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], I think [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] Jackman– a good image, of course. I definitely think it goes with any cultural background. I would use it, but unfortunately, I just love to many names to actually name my son [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]. Wonderful name though. There’s also [name_m]Victor[/name_m] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], so literary cred is always good. Good luck and happy naming!

I adore [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]. I knew a [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] back when I was in primary school (e.g: the days when [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] was considered risqué, and [name_u]Jai[/name_u] / Jye weird), and I always loved his name: fun, sprightly and wholesome. He got along just fine too: it certainly works beautifully in real life.
