Hula baby

Hello Berries,

I am 22 weeks pregnant with my first child. I’m 34 and I’ve wanted this my whole life. I fell pregnant using donor sperm for our various reasons.

I love names and I’ve been reading and researching names since I was a child, I have an unusual name myself and the day I realised names have meanings I was hooked. I was only a youngster. I think my obsession with names has made it really hard for me to choose something now.

The Donor Daddy is Hawaiian and I’d like to but don’t absolutely have to use something Hawaiian in the baby name. I am 95% set on Lulani [name_m]George[/name_m] for a baby girl. I love the meaning and I love [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] as a nn as my dear grandad [name_m]George[/name_m] use to call my nan [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] even though her name was [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]. So for me Lulani [name_m]George[/name_m] ticks all the boxes.
What do you think?

I also like:
[name_f]Astoria[/name_f], [name_f]Mirabelle[/name_f], Lumi, [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Pandora[/name_f], [name_f]Valentina[/name_f], [name_f]Lux[/name_f]

However I’m not completely sold on a boy’s name, I like [name_m]Cassian[/name_m] nn [name_m]Cash[/name_m] and [name_m]Lennox[/name_m] nn [name_u]Lex[/name_u], I’ve love [name_u]Paxton[/name_u] nn [name_u]Pax[/name_u] for years but I worry the name is too [name_f]Jolie[/name_f]-[name_m]Pitt[/name_m] now. I’d love any suggestions even a few Hawaiian ones. The middle name will be [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] after my other gorgeous Grandad. Unfortunately I’m not keen an any nn that go with [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] so it will have to be the middle name.

I prefer unusual names that shorten to a nice/cool nn

I like
[name_m]Ignatius[/name_m], [name_m]Sol[/name_m], [name_m]Wilder[/name_m], [name_m]Cashel[/name_m], [name_u]Asa[/name_u], [name_m]Amos[/name_m], [name_m]Caius[/name_m]

Would love to hear all your thoughts and suggestions and Thank you in advanced

P.S Thank you jem for helping me with this

I don’t know anything about Hawaiian names, sorry, but I like the idea of making the connection if you find one you love. If you don’t mind my asking, what kind of presence will the Donor Daddy have in your child’s life?

Lulani is fresh and spunky, unique but with familiar sounds and easy to spell and pronounce. I like it! Especially since it’s meaningful to you. [name_f]Valentina[/name_f] is my other favourite from your list, also well-known but not used often and with an exotic flair. It’s more dramatic and feminissima, and also lovely.

Lumi and [name_f]Lila[/name_f] are cute but it doesn’t feel complete to me, same with [name_f]Lux[/name_f]. Would you like Luxmhina (luksh-mee-nah or lux-mee-nah) nn [name_f]Lux[/name_f]?

[name_f]Astoria[/name_f] is pretty and sounds vintage-chic but I can’t help thinking of the Waldorf-[name_f]Astoria[/name_f] hotels. I’ve always disliked [name_f]Pandora[/name_f] since there was a very badly-behaved dog named [name_f]Pandora[/name_f] in one of my favourite book series as a child, and also it seems too cutesy to me, sorry.

Would you like [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] or [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] as a middle name? It’s great that you want to honour your granddad, but I’ve known a few girls who have masculine middle names and hate them. Or maybe a feminization of his middle name, e.g. [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] or [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] if his middle name was [name_m]Charles[/name_m]?

[name_m]Ignatius[/name_m], [name_u]Asa[/name_u] and [name_m]Cassian[/name_m] are my favourites from your boys’ list. Strong but soft, uncommon but familiar, like Lulani and [name_f]Valentina[/name_f]. Outside the mainstream but not far enough from it to be in “acquired taste” territory. I love [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]- it’s one of those quintessentially British names to me.

[name_m]Wilder[/name_m] is a nice, solid nature name that I could see on a “cool” guy, it’s okay but doesn’t really grab me.

[name_m]Sol[/name_m] sounds a bit incomplete to me. [name_m]Caius[/name_m] just makes me think of [name_m]Caius[/name_m] College, Cambridge, which seems a bit of an odd thing for a child to share a name with. [name_m]Amos[/name_m] reminds me of a mouse because of that children’s story about [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_m]Franklin[/name_m] (though I don’t think it’s that popular anymore). I don’t like how [name_m]Cashel[/name_m] has the word cash in it, though I know it’s been a legitimate name for a long time.

Sorry if I was too harsh :frowning:
