[name]Hi[/name], my husband and I are expecting a baby girl but CANNOT agree on a name.
We would like the middle name to be [name]May[/name] (family name) and our surname is three syllables.
His favourites are;
[name]Eleri[/name], [name]Madeleine[/name] (nn [name]Maddy[/name]), [name]Millie[/name] and [name]Jessica[/name].
Mine are;
[name]Evie[/name], [name]Maisie[/name] and [name]Floris[/name] (nn [name]Floss[/name]/[name]Florrie[/name])
I realise [name]Maisie[/name] [name]May[/name] sounds ridiculous but do you think [name]Maddie[/name] [name]May[/name] sounds too much like [name]Rod[/name] Stewarts [name]Maggie[/name] [name]May[/name] song?
My concerns about [name]Eleri[/name] are 1) that people will pronounce it [name]Ellery[/name] rather than Elairy and also it will get shortened to [name]Ellie[/name] which I am not a fan of.
Any thoughts or other recommendations would be much appreciated!
[name]Eleri[/name] I was thinking rhymes with celery?
[name]Madeleine[/name] [name]May[/name] is pretty & unless you were calling her by [name]Maddy[/name] [name]May[/name] I wouldn’t make the [name]Maggie[/name] [name]May[/name] connection
[name]Millie[/name]- I prefer a longer fn with nn [name]Millie[/name]. [name]Millie[/name] [name]May[/name] is a bit kiddish
[name]Jessica[/name]- pretty & you rarely hear it any more. I think it’s more sophisticated than some of the others.
[name]Evie[/name]- I prefer [name]Eve[/name] or some less nicknamey forn. [name]Eve[/name] [name]May[/name] is choppy so [name]Evangeline[/name], [name]Yvette[/name], [name]Ivana[/name]?
[name]Maisie[/name]- I love this! But mostly as a nn.
[name]Floris[/name]- nms. Reminds me of [name]Doris[/name] & [name]Florence[/name].
I think my style is more formal than yours cause a lot of these feel nicknamey. I like
[name]Marina[/name] [name]May[/name]
[name]Marisa[/name] [name]May[/name]
[name]Marlene[/name] [name]May[/name]
[name]Marigold[/name] [name]May[/name]
All of the above with pet name [name]Maisie[/name]
[name]Jessica[/name] [name]May[/name]
[name]Jessamine[/name] [name]May[/name]
[name]Jasmine[/name] [name]May[/name]
[name]Madeleine[/name] [name]May[/name]
[name]Camilla[/name] [name]May[/name] nn [name]Millie[/name]
[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]May[/name] nn [name]Evie[/name]
[name]Elinor[/name] [name]May[/name]
[name]Flora[/name] [name]May[/name] nn [name]Florrie[/name]
[name]Jessamine[/name] [name]May[/name]
I think [name]Maddie[/name] [name]May[/name] sounds ok, although it is a lot of M’a and A’s in a row. I probably would have pronounced [name]Eleri[/name] incorrectly, although it is a beautiful sounding name. [name]Hope[/name] you both find something you love. Good luck!
[name]Just[/name] remembered that I know a little girl named [name]Evie[/name] [name]Kate[/name], I think [name]Evie[/name] [name]May[/name] is equally adorable!
Also - would you ever consider using May as the first name, and compromising on a middle? May Eleri sounds great, and then you wouldn’t have to worry about pronunciation problems, since Eleri is in the middle. Just a thought.
I love [name]Eleri[/name]!! I don’t like the nn [name]Ellie[/name] either, so that would put me off if I were to use it as well. You could always tell them it’s just [name]Eleri[/name], no nn. Otherwise, I like [name]Madeleine[/name] (but hate the nn [name]Maddy[/name]), [name]Jessica[/name] and [name]Evangeline[/name] (with the nn [name]Evie[/name]).
I actully prn [name]Eleri[/name] correctly, but I do think it’s asking for trouble a little bit, what about [name]Elodie[/name], [name]Eloise[/name], [name]Elora[/name]?
I have to admit, I cannot stand [name]Floris[/name], makes me think or Fluoride, Flossing your teeth etc.
I do like [name]Evie[/name] and [name]Madeleine[/name], [name]Evie[/name] [name]May[/name] is pretty cute, though a bit cutesy. [name]Madeleine[/name] could also go by [name]Lainie[/name] or [name]Lenny[/name], either of those would be cute with [name]May[/name]. [name]Maisie[/name] is just too cutesy for me, [name]Jessica[/name] is pretty dated [name]IMO[/name] and [name]Millie[/name], while cute, [name]Millie[/name] [name]May[/name] is just over the top, a longer name would be better shortened to [name]Millie[/name].
There have been lots of great suggestions so I won’t repeat them, but [name]Eleri[/name] reminds also me of [name]Mallory[/name], [name]Valerie[/name] and [name]Bellamy[/name].
My advice is to find a whole new name altogether if you cant agree…Thats what my hubby and I ended up doing…[name]Just[/name] keep looking til you find one you both can agree on…
