[name]Just[/name] when I thought we were narrowing down our name choices, DH surprises me with another name. We had talked about this name years ago when children were just a daydream and I had forgotten all about it. Now that he has brought it back up I really like it. I just worry that it may be too unique, but I have seen some real doozies on here so I know you all have an open mind and will shoot it to me straight. Our daughters name would be [name]Crimson[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]. What do you think? Is [name]Crimson[/name] too out there? I definitely wouldn’t have to worry about there being 4 or 5 in her class, which is one of my criterias. Also, what nicknames could you come up with for this combo? Thanks for your feedback! I greatly appreciate it as I navigate the naming waters!
i dont think it’s too out there with other names that are suggested. i think it’s very modern and can be unisex (on this site, its listed as F). I think with a name as different as [name]Crimson[/name], you should pick a more traditional middle name. if pearl is being picked for being born in [name]June[/name], [name]Margaret[/name] means pearl.
I dont care for it, and not because it is too unique or strange, I just dont like the sound of it. It doesnt sound very pretty(or even feminine) in my opinion. Some colors work as names (like [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Hazel[/name]) but others just dont. [name]Crimson[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] sounds like you are describing a redish colored [name]Pearl[/name].
I prefer [name]Pearl[/name] to [name]Crimson[/name]. Have you thought about [name]Cerise[/name] (French for cherry)?
According to SSA 29 girls were named [name]Crimson[/name] last year. So it’s getting use! I like it but there’s something about [name]Crimson[/name] as a name that feels off to me, maybe its because I can’t figure out a good nickname. Also, [name]Crimson[/name] [name]Pearl[/name], to me, sounds a bit like the title of a romance novel. I think it’s a name that I could warm up to though. I prefer [name]Scarlett[/name] though it’s getting quite popular, as are [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Hazel[/name]. Some other color names you might like:
[name]Lilac[/name]
[name]Auburn[/name]
[name]Burgundy[/name]
[name]Emerald[/name]
[name]Mauve[/name]
If you do choose to go with [name]Crimson[/name], I’d find a middle name that’s less wordy and more traditional (though not boring). [name]Crimson[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name] or [name]Crimson[/name] [name]Bianca[/name] would be great.
You could always nickname her [name]Sonny[/name] (like [name]Sunny[/name]) but to me that feels like its totally taking the point away from naming a baby [name]Crimson[/name]. You could always just call her her full name! It is beautiful!
I completely agree!!
Here are some names I think fit this style:
Belladonna (NN [name]Bella[/name]/[name]Bell[/name]) [name]Kathleen[/name] (too long?)
Cordillia [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Garnet[/name] (NN [name]Nettie[/name]) [name]Blythe[/name]
[name]Cherise[/name] [name]Portia[/name]
or
[name]Crimson[/name] [name]Mae[/name]
[name]Crimson[/name] [name]Paige[/name]
[name]Crimson[/name] [name]Ava[/name]
I don’t think I would take someone named ‘[name]Crimson[/name]’ seriously, much less ‘[name]Crimson[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]’. [name]Crimson[/name] is an adjective and [name]Pearl[/name] is a noun, so I imagine a bright red pearl. [name]Crimson[/name] is just not a name.
I admit, I am not a fan of [name]Crimson[/name] as a name, but I do like it as a word (it has a great sound to it), and as a color, so I could see how it’s appealing to some folks’ name style.
And I do love [name]Pearl[/name], but not with [name]Crimson[/name].
I have to be honest though, I would not name a girl [name]Crimson[/name], as I do think it would be a very difficult name to have during adolescence. Especially when girls start getting a monthly visitor that have a very popular slang term involving the word crimson… it’s seems like a very sensitive time in one’s life to have a name so tied in terminology to such a sensitive subject.
And paired with [name]Pearl[/name], it just compounds it, since now they have feminine products named ‘pearls.’ I feel terrible saying it, but when I read [name]Crimson[/name] [name]Pearl[/name], that’s the first thing that came to mind.
But, then again, maybe that’s just my past experiences and personality showing through. I know and knew many girls that would’ve laughed off or embraced a name meant to tease as a quirky, sarcastic nickname.
However, in the end, I am a firm believer that you should name your child whatever you want. A nay-sayer here or there shouldn’t dissuade you from a name if the two of you love it.
You can’t please everyone, no name or child is tease-proof, and not everyone has a dirty mind like mine… ; )
Good luck, and whatever her name is, I hope you and your husband love it!
What were your other options before your husband brought this one up? Perhaps one of those names could work for a mn.
[name]Crimson[/name] definitely reminds me of “[name]Crimson[/name] [name]Tide[/name].”
But if you love it, go with it! What do you like about it? The fact it is offbeat, a color name, or means red? Maybe some other ideas:
[name]Claret[/name] (dark-purplish red color)
[name]Scarlett[/name] (this might be to popular for your liking though)
[name]Lilac[/name] (one of my top choices right now)
[name]Coral[/name] (pinkish-red, so sort of like [name]Crimson[/name]!)
I actually think [name]Crimson[/name] has a pretty, feminine sound to it (maybe because I love the name [name]Tamsin[/name] which sounds very similar. Incidentally, does [name]Tamsin[/name] appeal to you?) I did not have any of the negative associations (crimson tide is a new slang term for me!) but I can understand these concerns now that I read them. I don’t find [name]Crimson[/name] to be incredibly over-the-top, and I do like the sound of it, but I don’t think I could use it personally. And most definitely not with a noun middle like [name]Pearl[/name]. [name]Crimson[/name] [name]Jane[/name]? Or [name]Tamsin[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]?
[name]LOVE[/name], [name]LOVE[/name], [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Crimson[/name] for a little girl. I just wouldn’t couple [name]Crimson[/name] with [name]Pearl[/name].
There was a poster here once a very long time ago who had a daughter named [name]Crimson[/name], she said she her daughter loved her name!
I don’t find anything objectionable about [name]Crimson[/name], and I think I’d be excited if I met one. At first I was thinking it’s not very feminine, but it’s growing on me. Not like all girls need super feminine names anyway. I don’t like the combo [name]Crimson[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] though. That makes me think of “the crimson tide”, but for some reason [name]Crimson[/name] alone doesn’t. I would pair it with something normal, maybe even popular, along the lines of [name]Crimson[/name] [name]Amelia[/name].
i love the name [name]Crimson[/name] on a little girl, my friend named her son; [name]Jade[/name] [name]Crimson[/name]!
Thanks for the feedback. Those were a few of my concerns too. FYI, husband is a big [name]Alabama[/name] fan so those of you who thought [name]Crimson[/name] [name]Tide[/name] were right on target! Thanks again. 7 weeks left to commit to a name. My 3 year old niece thinks I should name my baby [name]Myrtle[/name]! [name]Crimson[/name] doesn’t sound so bad now does it?HAHA!
