Ok, not really. But I really don’t like his name picks, and he really doesn’t like mine. We just have completely different naming styles and I have no idea what to name this baby. We’re expecting a boy. We have 2 older kids- [name]Jonah[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name]. [name]How[/name] we ever agreed on those 2 names I’m not sure.
My husband’s name choices: [name]Tyler[/name], [name]Caleb[/name], [name]Trent[/name]
My name choices: [name]Silas[/name], [name]Sebastian[/name], [name]Micah[/name]
Our last name is fairly long and difficult to pronounce/spell- so we’re looking for a first name that would be somewhat “easy”- something fairly recognizable so that hopefully he won’t have to explain it too much… but also not too popular (I’m ruling out the top 50 most popular names). I feel like my husband’s choices are too common and/or too “macho” sounding, while my husband thinks my names sound too feminine (he thinks [name]Micah[/name] sounds like a girl’s name) or too old (he insists that [name]Silas[/name] is an old man name).
We both like [name]Eli[/name] but it’s just too common. (Actually, I like [name]Caleb[/name] also but it’s too common for me… my husband isn’t too concerned with popularity).
Any suggestions? I’m getting nervous that we’re never going to find a name we both really like…
K so, here is my take. [name]Tyler[/name] and [name]Caleb[/name] are not too macho. [name]Trent[/name] could go either way to be honest. I agree with him on your names being a bit… erm, soft. [name]Silas[/name] however, I do like. Syler may be one you can both get behind. It combines the softer [name]Sy[/name] sound of [name]Silas[/name], and the “ler” of his [name]Tyler[/name].
I do love [name]Trent[/name] and [name]Micha[/name]. Not a fan of [name]Sebastian[/name] at all though it reminds me of the crab from the little mermaid
I like [name]Caleb[/name] and [name]Silas[/name]. I adore [name]Eli[/name]. I don’t think you should worry about popularity. If you like them, use them!!
Here’s some names you might like -
[name]Easton[/name]
[name]Riley[/name]
[name]Axel[/name]
[name]Elias[/name]? You could still use the [name]Eli[/name] nickname.
[name]Grant[/name]
[name]Jude[/name]
[name]Leo[/name]
[name]Damien[/name]
[name]Ezekiel[/name]
I do know a woman named [name]Micah[/name]. I don’t know how often it’s used for girls, but he may have a point. Also, if you’re going for something short to offset your last name, I’d rule out [name]Sebastian[/name] as well. So I think [name]Silas[/name] is the best bet from your list and since name trends are favoring a “what’s old is new again” approach, I don’t think you can count it out as an “old man” name. On his list, the only one I really see as macho is [name]Trent[/name], with [name]Tyler[/name] I think probably being the best choice. Is it just [name]Eli[/name] you have a problem with or all [name]Eli[/name]- starting names? [name]Elias[/name] came to mind as a compromise between something you both like and [name]Silas[/name].
All very nice name choices.
Michah, especially with the “ah” at the end does sound more feminine. Of the Michah’s I know they are all little girls.
[name]Silas[/name], An old soul kind of name, goes well with [name]Jonah[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name], which are more old soul kind of names. I do see this name a lot on the up and coming lists though, so if you are trying to avoid too popular, this name seems to be gaining momentum.
[name]Sebastian[/name], I think this is a nice name as well. But I guess if your last name is long and hard to spell, sound it out loud and see how it flows.
[name]Trent[/name], I like this name, I prefer [name]Trenton[/name] though…
[name]Tyler[/name], very popular in the 70’s and 80’s. Probably not so much any more though.
[name]Caleb[/name], my favorite of the bunch. Also goes well with [name]Caroline[/name] and [name]Jonah[/name].
All of your choices are very nice. Have you thought of combining using one of your names for first name and the other for middle name?
Thanks! I love the name [name]Elias[/name] actually, but my name is [name]Alice[/name], so that rules that one out… we’re considering [name]Simon[/name] too, but for some reason I can’t get past the nursery rhyme association (Simple [name]Simon[/name] met a pieman…) and that just bugs me. Plus I feel like it sounds kind of British. Syler was a villain on the show Heroes, which is our only association with the name, so that’s out. [name]Love[/name] the name [name]Levi[/name] but we know 2 different baby Levis among friends.
Lots of great suggestions to think about, though! Keep them coming!
I love your name choices! [name]Micah[/name] is in my top 10 boys names and I would hate to see it on a girl. I also love [name]Caleb[/name], but the other to are not my style. My suggestion to you would be to not be overly concerned with popularity - it all matters on location, especially if you’re in the US. All though most of the top fifty should be popular throughout the country, this isn’t always the case. I know two [name]Patience[/name]'s and it was the 900th most popular name the year I was born, where as [name]Emily[/name] was the most popular, and I don’t know any because it isn’t as common in my state as elsewhere. You’ll always run into the possibilty of knowing a couple other children with the same name no matter which you choose.
My suggestions:
[name]Troy[/name] (since he likes [name]Trent[/name])
[name]Skyler[/name]/[name]Skylar[/name]/[name]Schuyler[/name]
[name]Donovan[/name]
[name]Keegan[/name]
[name]Victor[/name]
[name]Emmett[/name]
[name]Cory[/name]/[name]Corey[/name]
[name]Louis[/name]
I love [name]Caleb[/name], [name]Silas[/name], [name]Sebastian[/name] and [name]Micah[/name], all gorgeous names. [name]Sebastian[/name] is the one I’d pick to go with [name]Jonah[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name]!
I’ve never heard the Simple [name]Simon[/name] rhyme. I’m not sure how common it is, so I don’t think too many people would jump to that, so I guess it depends on your own ability to shake that association in your mind. I do think it sounds British, but I don’t see that as a negative thing.
