Currently pregnant with my first. We don’t know gender yet, but we’ve already started brainstorming names, and immediately run into a problem.
I’ve been set on a particular girl name for years. It’s important enough to me that I even brought the name up to my now-husband to make sure he liked it before I moved forward with the relationship.
Fast forward to now, and he’s decided he hates everything about the name and never liked it. I was pretty devastated and pushed for it for a while, but ultimately we both have to like the name, so I’m looking for alternatives. The problem is that I don’t like any other girl names the same way. So I was hoping maybe you all might have some ideas.
My beloved name is Rhiannon. (Rhiannon Alice was my favorite combo, but I don’t like it the other way around.) Whatever name we decide on has to sound good in English and Spanish, but does not have to sound the same in both languages. Our last name starts with an S and has two syllables. I’d love something that sounds good with Rhiannon as a mn and is not too common.
It’s so funny you mention [name_f]Alicia[/name_f], it was another mn I was thinking of! I love the Spanish pronunciation but unfortunately hate the [name_f]English[/name_f] one in comparison.
I’m still heavily biased toward [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] but I liked [name_f]Amalia[/name_f] from your list! It also made me think of [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] which is cute.
[name_m]Hi[/name_m] it’s so hard to find a name you both love, but there will be one!!
Sorry I’m an Aussie, so apologies if these aren’t perfect in Spanish, I don’t hear a lot of Spanish.
Some thoughts for the middle name [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f]:
You may regret not pushing at least a bit more for Rhiannon. Assuming there isn’t a decent reason for suddenly “hating” a beautiful name he previously didn’t have a problem with, you could perhaps suggest your surname prior to changing it when you married as the first name, or as the baby’s surname. Or suggest a range of Celtic names that are also beautiful but much less intuitive to pronounce and spell such as Siobhan, Saoirse, Caoimhe, Aoife (send them to him written down). Or suggest he find a name you like as much as Rhiannon. He may yet come around, particularly when he realises you’re doing all the hard bits to bring the baby into the world.
