Husband "tweaked" my long list :(

Alright berries, your posts and suggestions are always helpful, and I have posted before looking for sibling names and received terrific responses. We are planning on number two later this year, and after the stress to come up with lists and the perfect baby name during pregnancy last time, I really wanted to get a step ahead this time. After much debate, we named our our son [name]Tobin[/name] [name]Clark[/name]. (I loved [name]Tobias[/name]- he didn’t- but this way we both got the adorable nickname of [name]Toby[/name]. At the time, I didn’t look at sibling names at all. So, we are starting basically from scratch.

I had made lists of perfect combos. It was full of wonderful, swoon worthy combos (in my opinion), with [name]Iris[/name], [name]India[/name], [name]Pearl[/name], and [name]Hazel[/name]. Well, I had my husband go over them last night, and all of these are now off the list… :frowning: I love all the combos, but I don’t feel confident with any. I also want one that flows nicely with [name]Tobin[/name]'s name. There are no “criteria” really. Any suggestions based on my new “list” thanks to the hubby?

“Yes” List
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Daphne[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Griffin[/name] [name]Patrick[/name]
[name]Grady[/name] [name]Thomas[/name]
[name]Declan[/name] [name]James[/name]

“Maybe” List
[name]Evelyn[/name]
[name]Stella[/name]
[name]Calista[/name]
[name]Vera[/name]
[name]Scarlett[/name]
[name]Corbin[/name]
[name]Henry[/name]
[name]Carson[/name]
[name]Sullivan[/name]
[name]Sawyer[/name]
[name]Atticus[/name]

One new thing I want to take into consideration is my mother’s name. She has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. I would love to have a name for a future little girl with a similar meaning or sound. Her name is [name]Marjorie[/name] Daphine (which she has always absolutely despised). This is where [name]Daphne[/name] came from though. Any variations of [name]Marjorie[/name] either name wise or meaning wise that would fit with my style?

Thanks in advance!!

I’m so sorry to hear about your mother’s health crisis but naming your daughter [name]Daphne[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] would be a wonderful way to honour her. She may not like her names but I think secretly it would touch her deeply. [name]Tobin[/name] and [name]Daphne[/name] look and sound like siblings to me. They both have the same spunky vibe to them! So [name]Daphne[/name] is my first pick. [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Rose[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Jane[/name] are beautiful names too but they seem so “formal” compared to [name]Tobin[/name]. For a brother, I would definitely go with [name]Sawyer[/name] with [name]Atticus[/name] coming in second. [name]Griffin[/name], [name]Carson[/name], [name]Corbin[/name], [name]Sullivan[/name] and [name]Declan[/name] are just too similar in sound to [name]Tobin[/name]. [name]Grady[/name] lacks spark. [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Thomas[/name] or [name]Atticus[/name] [name]James[/name] would be great combinations. Best wishes!

Oh man, I feel you! I’m going through something very similar with my husband. I came up with a great list of names I LOVED and he shot down almost every single one. He came back with a list of names he likes that are totally different then anything I was considering. gggggrrrrrr. I’m so terribly sorry to hear about your mother’s condition. I think [name]Daphne[/name] is a cute name and how wonderful to carry on the memory. Now to your list…

[name]Marjorie[/name]- maybe something like [name]Marie[/name] or [name]Maisie[/name]? Names with the same meaning as [name]Marjorie[/name] “[name]Pearl[/name]”: [name]Madge[/name], [name]Maggie[/name], [name]Megan[/name], [name]Meta[/name], [name]Peninah[/name] “[name]Penny[/name]?”

From your boy list I really like [name]Sullivan[/name]. [name]Toby[/name] and [name]Sully[/name]… cute! I also like [name]Toby[/name] and [name]Grady[/name].
For a girl my fave is [name]Daphne[/name] because it has meaning to you. But I think [name]Daphne[/name] [name]Scarlett[/name] is adorable. I also really like [name]Vera[/name] and [name]Calista[/name].

Other ideas:
[name]Maisie[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Peninah[/name] [name]Rose[/name] “[name]Penny[/name]”
[name]Calista[/name] [name]Marie[/name]
[name]Vera[/name] [name]Scarlett[/name]
[name]Stella[/name] [name]Jane[/name]

I am so sorry about your mom. I am sure this baby will be bitter sweet.
I love [name]Daphne[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] and think you have found a winner right off.
It has spunk and sass!
For boys I think you should avoid the ‘in’ ending so they won’t be too matchy.
I am normally not a fan of [name]Sawyer[/name] but this time it fits nicely
[name]Tobin[/name] [name]Clark[/name] and [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Thomas[/name] (or whatever middle you choose)
[name]Tobin[/name] [name]Clark[/name] and [name]Daphne[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name].
awesome names!

[name]Daphne[/name] was actually my favorite with [name]Tobin[/name], so I’m glad that’s the one with a family connection for you. I would probably go with [name]Daphne[/name] [name]Jane[/name], but [name]Daphne[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] is perfectly nice too. My favorite “yes” boy name would be [name]Griffin[/name]. [name]Toby[/name] and [name]Finn[/name] would be great. From the maybe’s I like [name]Vera[/name] and [name]Sullivan[/name].

I really like:
[name]Daphne[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Declan[/name] [name]James[/name]

Thank you all for your advice. I was very glad to hear the majority liked the flow of [name]Daphne[/name] and [name]Tobin[/name]. I also had to smile when the words spunky and sassy were used, because if the next one is a girl and is anything like her brother, sass will be one of the best adjectives to describe her

I also agree with the others that so many of the boy names were too matchy with the endings being in/an/en. I almost feel like I’d be feeding into the [name]Aidan[/name]/[name]Jayden[/name]/[name]Hayden[/name] (not that I dislike these- [name]Aidan[/name] was on our list until it became so popular). I do like the [name]Sawyer[/name] [name]Thomas[/name] matching, and [name]Atticus[/name] [name]James[/name] was on my list also. I really like [name]Finn[/name] though. Maybe [name]Finley[/name] [name]Patrick[/name]? I know I would never be able to get him to agree to [name]Phineas[/name] (thanks to [name]Phineas[/name] and Ferb).
