I am trying very, very hard to come up with girls names that I think my husband will like, because he has 3 names that he likes and won’t really venture outside them. I think I have figured out his style, though. [name]Do[/name] you have any suggestions that follow these guidelines?
Short, 1-2 syllable names, 3 syllable names on occasion.
Unisex names that are slightly used more for girls than boys.
Tends to like Celtic/Irish names, but only ones that are pretty commonplace in the US ([name]Erin[/name], [name]Colleen[/name], [name]Shannon[/name]. Names like [name]Ainsley[/name] are “too weird” - his words)
He likes names that are common/popular in our generation - 1970’s/80’s. Any names that are common/popular for kids now are “weird”.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you!
[name]Lynn[/name] (maybe as ouble-barreled with something eg Sor-[name]Lynn[/name] is one of my fave double-barrels ever!)
[name]Natasha[/name],
[name]Kelly[/name],
[name]Penny[/name],
[name]Melissa[/name]
[name]Kelly[/name] - like it, and haven’t considered it as an option before! Going on the list to consider!
[name]Alison[/name] - this was on our list a long time ago! I’d forgotten, but maybe it’s time to add this one again! It’s also my best friend’s name, so it may be a great idea!
[name]Jane[/name] - on the list as a middle name!
**[name]Edit[/name]: [name]Rollo[/name], we love a lot of names on your list, but many of them are family member’s names already. [name]Alyssa[/name], [name]Kate[/name], [name]Jacqueline[/name], [name]Louise[/name], [name]Bridget[/name], [name]Sarah[/name] all fall under this category.
Thanks for putting together so many names, Elliemae! Here’s our thoughts:
I cannot go with a unisex name for a girl simply based on the fact that our last name is so harsh. I want my daughters to have some semblance of femininity in their names! (Our last name sounds like Kick.)
[name]Bronwyn[/name] - I really like this one! This will go on the list again!
Rihannon - we have thrown this one out on occasion, but it always seems to be nixed for one reason or another. I think it’s one we’re on the fence about.
[name]Erin[/name] - is DH’s TOP TOP TOP choice, and has been for years. It is one I’m trying hard to avoid. I grew up with many [name]Erin[/name]/[name]Aaron[/name]/[name]Aerin[/name]/Airons, and personally know 2 couples named [name]Erin[/name]/[name]Aaron[/name]. It seems so generic to me due to this.
I absolutely [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Stella[/name], but DH says it sounds like an old lady - he can’t get past “A Streetcar Named Desire”.
[name]Natasha[/name] - This is a name I haven’t considered before. [name]Will[/name] give this one some thought! We have thrown out some other Russian names before, but not this one!
[name]Elea[/name] - thanks for such a long list to pour over! Here’s our favs:
[name]Chelsea[/name]
[name]Jenna[/name]
[name]Katrina[/name]*
[name]Kendra[/name]
[name]Lauren[/name]
[name]Sabrina[/name] - This is currently my favorite name, but I’m having a hard time convincing DH of it!
Again, so many of your names are wonderful, but they are family names (my husband and I both come from very large families with lots of aunts/cousins/sisters and in-laws).
I really like [name]Sabrina[/name], hopefully he’ll come around. What really jumps out at me that hasn’t been mentioned yet is [name]Julia[/name].
