Hyde?

This popped into my head yesterday, and I’ve been thinking about it as a boys name. No plans to use it, at least not at this point, but I’m curious about what people think of it. Better as a first name or middle? What would it pair well with? [name]Do[/name] you consider it usable, and if so, only in a certain region/country? Is the [name]Jekyll[/name]/[name]Hyde[/name] association too strong? Similar name suggestions, either in sound or style?

Thanks

Definitely not in [name]London[/name] because of [name]Hyde[/name] [name]Park[/name]! Then I think of [name]Jekyll[/name] and [name]Hyde[/name], hide and seek etc. I don’t think it works as a first name at all.

I didn’t even think of [name]Hyde[/name] [name]Park[/name]! I think the [name]Jekyll[/name] and [name]Hyde[/name] association is the main thing that would put me off ever using it personally, though theoretically I think it could make a nice middle.

I grew up really close to [name]Hyde[/name] [name]Park[/name] so that was my first association! It’s a cute name, but I wouldn’t use it.

It reminds me of the character off That 70’s Show.

We live in [name]England[/name] and our sons name is [name]Camden[/name] and people still love it and so do we. We choose that name regardless of its place association to [name]England[/name] and New [name]Jersey[/name] since its half of my fathers name and half of my father in laws name : [name]Cameron[/name] and [name]Dennis[/name]. If you love it and think it fits your baby than thats all that matters. Personally I think its a really “cool dude” kind of name.

The first thing I thought of was ‘That 70’s Show’ as well. [name]Even[/name] though it was his last name they always called him [name]Hyde[/name] on the show so the reference is all [name]Steven[/name] [name]Hyde[/name] to me… aka anarchy and smoking pot in the basement. Though admittedly he did it in a humorous way, it still might not be the best namesake you’d want your son to have. (Not to mention the Dr. [name]Jekyll[/name] association, although apparently I didn’t read the book until after starting to watch that tv show, haha). It also just sounds like the plain word “hide.”

All that being said, based on sound alone it does seem like a pretty “cool” name for a boy to have so I want to say no but I’m torn. =]

amydomsmom, I feel similarly. Except for the That 70’s Show reference as I’ve never seen it! I think if it had no negative/intense associations for me personally I’d be more inclined to use it (as a middle only) as I really like the sound.

lis71683, I know a pair who named one of their twins [name]Camden[/name] despite the fact that they live in [name]London[/name] and they’ve always been complimented on it’s “cool” sound regardless of the namesake, so I think in terms of the [name]Hyde[/name] [name]Park[/name] association it could be overcome. Especially for me, as I didn’t actually notice it straight away. Perhaps because I’ve never been to [name]Hyde[/name] [name]Park[/name] (even though I lived in [name]London[/name] for 18 years… is that bad? haha!)

Eh, lol. I’ve lived in Liverpool for twenty six years and haven’t done any of the Beatles stuff.

That 70’s Show is all I can think of

You’ve never been to [name]Hyde[/name] [name]Park[/name]?? Impressive. I walked through [name]Hyde[/name] [name]Park[/name] everyday on my way to school… It’s a really nice park though, it’s got the Serpentine and the [name]Diana[/name] memorial play ground, and the italian gardens. If you like [name]Hyde[/name], it’s fine. It is a very cute name.
