We’ve decided on [name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] for a boy. My issue is, I keep wanting to say [name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] as a whole name… So I’m wondering whether to do [name_m]Leo[/name_m]-[name_u]Flynn[/name_u] and then a middle or just keep it as a first and middle name. Also if I were to hyphenate. What sort of middle will go with it?
I would strongly suggest to keep [name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] as a first and a middle name. I like the balance and feel of it on its own! I truly believe it is a winner. The look of the hyphenated version just seems a little awkward on paper.
If you were to hyphenate, however, here are some middle name suggestions:
[name_m]Leo[/name_m]-[name_u]Flynn[/name_u] [name_m]Scott[/name_m]
[name_m]Leo[/name_m]-[name_u]Flynn[/name_u] [name_m]Elijah[/name_m]
[name_m]Leo[/name_m]-[name_u]Flynn[/name_u] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m]
[name_m]Leo[/name_m]-[name_u]Flynn[/name_u] [name_m]Tobias[/name_m]
[name_m]Leo[/name_m]-[name_u]Flynn[/name_u] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]
[name_m]Leo[/name_m]-[name_u]Flynn[/name_u] [name_u]Everest[/name_u]
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps. : )
I would keep it as a first and middle and feel free to call him [name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] as a whole name. There are plenty of people who do that when there’s a one-syllable middle name.
If you do want to go the hyphenated route though, I’d recommend using a longer middle name with three or four syllables (such as pp’s suggestions of [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] or [name_u]Everest[/name_u]). I think that would give the name the best balance.
I would advise you not to hyphenate. Hyphens are just weird as an actual part of a name! When he is a baby, you can call him [name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] and people will likely do the same. And in just a few years it will really be up to him how he introduces himself or enforces/encourages the double name. I don’t think putting a hyphen in the name will help ensure that both names are used.
Good luck!
What if I don’t hyphenate but just use two middles… would that work?
[name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] [name_m]Shepard[/name_m] or [name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] McKenzie for example. or is it unnecessary and too much?
I’m not a fan of hyphenated names. [name_m]Just[/name_m] use two middles
I would use [name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] and add a second middle if you wish.
I’m actually not a fan of 2 middles either, but I do like that option much better than adding a hyphen.
[name_m]Plenty[/name_m] of people have 4 names total and it must work just fine. I just feel like it would be confusing on official forms and stuff that have fields for First, Middle, and Last.
I think it’d be fine to use a second middle
I always find hyphens tacky, so I would keep them as separate names. There’s no harm in giving him a second MN however, if you want to use the first two as a double name.
I strongly prefer no hyphen.
No hyphen. Leave [name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] as it is and use the full name. There is no rule that states you must have a middle name that is silent and unused.
I definitely wouldn’t hyphenate! Keep it as a first and a middle - or use two middles!
I wouldn’t hyphenate. I think it would be bothersome. [name_m]Leo[/name_m] as a first name and [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] as a middle name would work better. You can always call him by his first and middle names.
I love keep it as a first and middle. You can still call him also [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] is you want even though it’s not hyphenated. I know a girl who’s first and middle name is [name_f]Lacie[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] however that is what her family call her. You can do the same with your son.
