So im pretty positive we have settled on a girl first name. I would like some opinions on it and im pretty sure it won’t get the best response for a girl but who knows. We had decided on [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] [name_m]Robert[/name_m] awhile ago for a son and it wasnt to popular on nameberry becauseit is used a lot as a girls name despite originally being a male name. I found that I really do love unisex names and that lead me to [name_u]Elliot[/name_u]. So I want to know what all of you think of [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] on our daughter I love it so much more because dads name is [name_m]Eli[/name_m].
I used to like [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] for a girl but then I met one in real life and… honestly… it sounded kinda ridiculous on her. I’ve known girl who could pull off names like that but I don’t really like [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] for a girl. I like it in theory but in practice it sounds a bit silly. Sorry. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t quote me on this, but I’ve heard from other sites (it may or may not actually be true) that [name_f]Eliette[/name_f] is a [name_m]French[/name_m] name. There’s also simply [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] which is my sister’s name.
I love [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] [name_m]Robert[/name_m], by the way. However, for future sibset reference, I would think [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] and [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] were a boy and a girl, respectively.
[name_u]Elliot[/name_u] is a boy’s name in my opinion but there are more and more Elliots that are girls everyday and the connection to your father is adorable. So I say if you love it, go for it.
ETA I do agree with sprakleninja for future sibsets I would def think [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] was the boy and [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] was the girl.
To me, [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] is strictly a boys name
I liked the suggestion of [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] and [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] would be adorable since I know you both like [name_u]Morgan[/name_u]
I really don’t like [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] on a girl, sorry. It’s all boy to me.
I love your boy name pick though!
Honestly, to me [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] and [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] are on the same level of unisex. I’ve actually met more boy Morgans than I have boy Elliots. [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] sounds more dated to me than [name_u]Elliot[/name_u], so I say go for [name_u]Elliot[/name_u]!
In my opinion, [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] is a girls name and [name_u]Eliot[/name_u]/[name_u]Elliot[/name_u] is a boys name, it’s also my s/o’s brother’s name.
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Etta[/name_f], [name_f]Elena[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] or maybe make up something that sounds similar. Maybe Ellenet ?
Except that [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] is not a unisex name [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] is a boy name. It comes from [name_m]Eli[/name_m], who is a man in the Bible, but you probably know it because it is your dad’s name (Eli (name) - Wikipedia)
The name has strong roots that we must respect. I find it ridiculous on a girl, sorry. She would get teased and I feel life is not easy when you wear a boy name (getting letters for Mr XXX [name_u]Elliot[/name_u], hearing “Hello Mr XXX” when you pick up the phone, getting a male gown for your graduation, etc, for example).
Why not [name_f]Eliette[/name_f] or Elliette? It sounds like [name_u]Elliot[/name_u].
I know a female [name_u]Elliot[/name_u], who is a child, and she does not get teased at all. She is a very sweet little girl who owns her full name well. Children are much more forgiving of rarer names than we make them out to be.
I know people on this site get major attitude about [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] for a girl, but I just don’t get it. Maybe it was normalized for me by [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] [name_u]Reed[/name_u] on Scrubs. I went to school with a woman who named her daughter [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] and I think it’s cute.
There are lots of nickname options if it doesn’t seem to fit as she gets older. I have no idea what kids would find to make fun of her for the name. My daughter has a girl in her class named [name_u]Oakley[/name_u], and to the kids, that’s just her name. Parents are worse than kids, in my experience.
I agree that [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] sounds like a boy to me. I know a woman named Elorient that goes by [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] or even [name_f]Elle[/name_f].
In Scrubs the girl is named [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] because her parents wanted a boy.
I think parents can be mean, this is true, but kids can also be mean. I was still getting teased because of my name when I was in college.
