I challenge you...

To help me come up with a name that is similar to my sons, for baby #2.

His name is [name_u]Jameson[/name_u], but we call him [name_u]Jem[/name_u] for short. I like [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] because it is semi-classic with a little bit of trendy- modern feel. I love [name_u]Jem[/name_u] because it has literary ties and is unique. Also, it has a vintage feel to me, since to kill a mockingbird took place in the 30s.

I love kit and cap for boys, but want a longer name attached to it, and I don’t like cristopher or [name_m]Casper[/name_m]. Also my husband isn’t crazy about those.

For girls, I love the vintage nicknames too- [name_f]Hattie[/name_f], [name_f]Lottie[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], etc. but don’t like the longer forms. I also love peppy sounding names, like [name_u]Piper[/name_u] and [name_f]Lola[/name_f], but just can’t bring myself to use those.

[name_u]Jameson[/name_u] was a roundabout name to get to [name_u]Jem[/name_u] (in the book it was [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m]). So maybe different ideas to get to the cute nicknames.

Help please??

[name_f]Lizette[/name_f] ( [name_f]Liz[/name_f], [name_f]Ettie[/name_f])
Gorgiana ([name_f]Giana[/name_f])
[name_f]Jeanette[/name_f] ( [name_u]Jacky[/name_u], [name_f]Ettie[/name_f])
[name_f]Melissande[/name_f] (Liss, [name_u]Sandy[/name_u])

Hm, this is a tough one.

I think to get to [name_u]Kit[/name_u] you could use [name_m]Christian[/name_m] which I think is a much more handsome name than [name_m]Christopher[/name_m]. [name_u]Kit[/name_u] is also a shortened female name for [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] or [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]. [name_m]Cap[/name_m] could be short for [name_m]Callum[/name_m] (but I much prefer the nickname [name_u]Cal[/name_u] - you might like that one). You could call a daughter [name_f]Callista[/name_f] and nn to [name_u]Cal[/name_u] as well but probably not [name_m]Cap[/name_m].

Other vintage but peppy names:

[name_f]Tess[/name_f] (nn for [name_f]Teresa[/name_f] or [name_f]Theresa[/name_f])?
[name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] (nn for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f])
[name_f]Betty[/name_f]
[name_f]Louise[/name_f] (nn [name_u]Lou[/name_u])
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] (nn Sybie)

[name_u]Gray[/name_u]
[name_u]Charlie[/name_u]
[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] (nn [name_m]Nate[/name_m])
[name_u]Leslie[/name_u] (nn [name_u]Les[/name_u])
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] (nn [name_u]Teddy[/name_u])

For [name_u]Kit[/name_u] maybe [name_m]Kingsley[/name_m], [name_m]Kingston[/name_m], [name_u]Kieran[/name_u], [name_u]Kristian[/name_u] or [name_m]Christian[/name_m]??
[name_m]Cap[/name_m] you could use [name_u]Campbell[/name_u]?

For girls
[name_f]Adeline[/name_f]- [name_f]Addie[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]- [name_f]Bea[/name_f]
[name_f]Cassandra[/name_f]- [name_f]Cassie[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]: [name_f]Dottie[/name_f], [name_f]Dot[/name_f]

Some of these are definitely a stretch, but I hope there’s something you like.

Boys
[name_u]Kit[/name_u]:
[name_m]Killian[/name_m]/[name_m]Cillian[/name_m]
[name_m]Beckett[/name_m]
[name_m]Kelton[/name_m]
[name_m]Clint[/name_m]
For cap, you might want some names that have meanings related to water: [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], [name_u]Kai[/name_u], [name_u]Wade[/name_u], [name_m]Brooks[/name_m], [name_u]Calder[/name_u], [name_u]Dylan[/name_u], [name_m]Zale[/name_m], [name_m]Merrick[/name_m], [name_u]River[/name_u]

Girls
[name_f]Paige[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] ([name_u]Penny[/name_u])
[name_f]Colette[/name_f], [name_f]Alette[/name_f], [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f] ([name_f]Lettie[/name_f])
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], [name_f]Linnea[/name_f] (Lynnie)
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f], [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] ([name_f]Lucy[/name_f])
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]/[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] ([name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Rosa[/name_f])
[name_f]Lena[/name_f]
[name_f]Katherine[/name_f], [name_f]Catalina[/name_f], [name_f]Katerina[/name_f], [name_f]Katrina[/name_f], [name_f]Katia[/name_f], ([name_f]Kat[/name_f], [name_f]Kitty[/name_f])

[name_m]Henry[/name_m]- [name_m]Hal[/name_m]
[name_m]Isaac[/name_m]- [name_m]Ike[/name_m]
[name_m]Philip[/name_m]- [name_m]Pip[/name_m]
[name_m]Calvin[/name_m], [name_u]Calder[/name_u], [name_m]Callaghan[/name_m]- [name_u]Cal[/name_u]
[name_m]Eli[/name_m]
[name_m]Marcus[/name_m]
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m]

[name_m]How[/name_m] about Kittaning nn [name_u]Kit[/name_u]?

I love [name_u]Kit[/name_u] and [name_m]Cap[/name_m]! But, I see why you would want more formal names. [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] nn [name_u]Jem[/name_u] is adorable, BTW!

For [name_u]Kit[/name_u], you could use [name_m]Beckett[/name_m] or [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] (though [name_u]Jem[/name_u] and [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] might be a little too much with the To Kill a Mockingbird Connection!).

For [name_m]Cap[/name_m], I like the idea of using [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] or [name_u]Campbell[/name_u], as others have suggested.

[name_m]Wesley[/name_m] nn [name_m]Wes[/name_m]
[name_u]Everett[/name_u] nn Rett

[name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] nn [name_f]Gwen[/name_f]/[name_f]Gwennie[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliette[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lettie[/name_f]

Caspian and Campbell, nn Cap are great ideas, as is Beckett, nn Kit. Other ideas:

[name]Jethro[/name], nn Jett
[name]Everett[/name], nn Rhett
[name]Harrison[/name], nn Hank

Girls:
[name]Charlotte[/name], nn Hattie (a little bit of a stretch, but I like it!)
[name]Violet[/name], nn Lettie
[name]Winifred[/name], nn Winnie
