Big brother is [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]. I love everything about the style of [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]’s name - I believe it’s one of those timeless names that isn’t overused and I also like that it’s literary and a little enchanting too.
Please choose whichever name you feel goes best with [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] and shares the above qualities that I’ve mentioned that I love in a name
[name_m]Feel[/name_m] free to explain your choice! I’d love to read your responses Am finding this naming decision SO tough this time around
I chose [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] because [name_m]Roger[/name_m] reminds me of [name_m]Roger[/name_m] Rabbit . I’ve also just always liked the name [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] and the nn [name_u]Gill[/name_u]. So cute!
Oh, dear! [name_m]How[/name_m] can you make me choose between two of my favorite names? (And as a brother for another of my favorites!)
I’m going to lean toward [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] because I think it does share the qualities you love about [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]. Yes, [name_m]Roger[/name_m] does, too, to some degree, but I am just feeling that [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] is a slightly better match overall.
I agree! [name_m]Roger[/name_m] feels more mid-century to me, but that could be based on personal association. [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] also feels more romantic and distinguished, which I think [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] can described as too - although maybe with a touch of farm boy: [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] (just has that vibe I’ve only seen parts or AoGG, don’t know if he is) and [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] Markham (Tenant of Wildfell [name_m]Hall[/name_m]). [name_m]Roger[/name_m] doesn’t have that vibe to me.
*please forgive my run-on sentences! I hope they make sense
I love, love, love [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m]! Especially with [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]! Both are on my guilty pleasure/maybe list, and I’m swooning over the thought of them being siblings!
I chose [name_m]Roger[/name_m], in part because my strongest association with the name is the character from the Outlander series, who I feel embodies many of the same vibes as [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]. I feel like [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] may be a touch more literary, due to the [name_u]Anne[/name_u] of [name_u]Green[/name_u] Gables series, but I also feel like [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] lacks the sense of strength and dignity that I associate with [name_m]Edmund[/name_m].
Thank you for this very thoughtful response. It’s nice to hear [name_m]Roger[/name_m] getting a bit of love! We don’t really hear this name on baby boys anymore
I think that’s part of why I was swayed in his direction. [name_m]Roger[/name_m] and [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] both have a cozy feeling that I don’t get as much from [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m]. Warm sweaters and kind brown eyes and cocoas by the fire - that sort of thing.
I think either would make a great brother name for [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], but I much prefer [name_m]Roger[/name_m]. [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m] just sounds unappealing to me, I’m not a fan of the ‘gill’ or the ‘bert’ sound.
Roger always brings to mind 101 Dalmatians, which is a fun association. It sounds cuddly and warm to me.
