I wasn’t sure where to post this but I’ve actually just got really excited because I’ve just found out that the rapper [name]Drake[/name] is actually named [name]Aubrey[/name]! I mean he’s very good looking, very masculine and everything else, surely if people knew what his real first name was then more people would use it for a boy or am I wrong in thinking that?
I’ve just been googling people named [name]Avery[/name] too, and most of those that come up were men too!
I guess I’m trying to convince myself more and more that they are useable on boys =)
[name]Avery[/name] and [name]Aubrey[/name] are unisex - of course they’re usable on boys! It would be nice if [name]Drake[/name] went by his real name, though, then [name]Aubrey[/name] could make a comeback for boys.
Haha, yeah, I did know his name was [name]Aubrey[/name]. It’s too bad it’s not more well-known, though… I think something like that would make [name]Aubrey[/name] and [name]Avery[/name] and such more usable for boys!
I was so sad when I looked at that site you posted on the other thread, though–apparently [name]Avery[/name]'s more popular on girls than boys, at least last year, even over there! [name]Even[/name] if it only is by one person, haha.
I’ve only met one [name]Aubrey[/name] and that was a friend’s aunt, along the lines of [name]Ashley[/name] I see it more usable as a female name, however seeing as [name]Aubrey[/name] isn’t that common in day to day life I think it would be easy enough to reclaim it for male usage if enough people were brave enough to use it.
I’ve never met anyone named [name]Avery[/name], and the only person I really associate the name with is the character of [name]Jackson[/name] [name]Avery[/name] on [name]Grey[/name]'s Anatomy. So I’ve fallen in love with it as a boys name, and it is one of my very favorites.
[name]Drake[/name] did go by [name]Aubrey[/name] when he was on Degrassi. [name]Aubrey[/name] really doesn’t sound like he’d be a rapper though, does he?
[name]Aubrey[/name] isn’t a very good name for a rapper.
Not gonna lie, although names like [name]Avery[/name] and [name]Aubrey[/name] are historically masculine, they are very much girls names to me now. I know several little girl [name]Avery[/name]'s and [name]Aubrey[/name]'s, and everyone I’ve talked to about the names (younger and older) have said that they are “girl names.” They evoke [name]Ava[/name] and [name]Audrey[/name] for me.
I’ve always liked [name]Avery[/name] better on a boy and I’ve known a few male [name]Avery[/name]'s and only one female [name]Avery[/name]. You’re good.
I’ve also known one male [name]Aubrey[/name] and 0 females.
I like both names on a boy and I think if [name]Aubrey[/name] could sound like a rappers name, he could go by it and more babies would get the name
I’m going to tell all my friend’s what [name]Drake[/name]'s real name is, just to push their thinking towards [name]Aubrey[/name] being a boy’s name - it’s relatively unknown here so I don’t know how people view it.
Also, if people get away with naming their daughter’s [name]Elliot[/name], [name]James[/name], [name]Ryan[/name], [name]Rory[/name], [name]Finlay[/name] etc. Then I don’t see any reason to not use [name]Avery[/name] or [name]Aubrey[/name] on little boy’s - might encourage more people to do it!
Thanks for the positivity though everyone, seems like most on here wouldn’t blink at seeing male [name]Avery[/name]'s and [name]Aubrey[/name]'s.
I know a ton of female Aubreys and not a single male. I think the fact that it is his name and he chooses not to go by speaks to it not being quite masculine enough. Like the pp mentioned [name]Aubrey[/name] is not a good name for a rapper, so he goes by his middle name. I think [name]Aubrey[/name] is forever a girls name. I do really like [name]Avery[/name] on a boy though! To me it is completely masculine, it just does not work on a girl to me at all.
I thought this was known, it’s not like he tries to hide it. When he first came out all anyone talked about was his former role on Degrassi (I’ve never seen it). When he was an actor he went by [name]Aubrey[/name] so obviously he’s not ashamed of his name. He went by [name]Drake[/name] when he started rapping to separate himself from his acting days
The only [name]Aubrey[/name] I know is my 6’3", muscular, ex-military male cousin so there’s nothing feminine about this name to me
I did not say that he was ashamed of his name by means!!! I used to watch Degrassi years ago and he did go by [name]Aubrey[/name] but he obviously chose not to keep going by [name]Aubrey[/name] during his rap career that is why most know him as [name]Drake[/name]. He did not have near the level of fame he has now when he was acting. He is from [name]Canada[/name] anyways. I don’t know what gender [name]Aubrey[/name] is used most commonly for in [name]Canada[/name] so it maybe be a common male name there, but as a rapper in [name]America[/name] he made the choice not to go by [name]Aubrey[/name] anymore. As a teacher in the US I have seen and met lots of little girls named [name]Aubrey[/name] and never a boy. This sends a clear sign to me that it is not usable for a boy in the US. I have met plenty of boys with other unisex names that I think work much better than [name]Aubrey[/name]. I know several males named [name]Avery[/name], [name]Harper[/name], and at least 10 males named [name]Addison[/name] of all different ages. I would name my son [name]Blair[/name] in a heartbeat if only [name]Blair[/name] and [name]Clara[/name] sounded better
I personally prefer [name]Avery[/name] as a girl name, since I’ve only ever known female [name]Avery[/name]'s. But I like [name]Aubrey[/name] better as a boy name, since I’ve only ever known male [name]Aubrey[/name]'s!!
