Husband and I are JUST about to TTC in June (after 17.5 months of a failed adoption) and we picked [name_f]Saoirse[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Fate[/name_f] [name_f]Kinney[/name_f] as her name. Saoirse- because we love it, Katherine as a family name, Fate because it was our adoptive daughter’s nickname when we started the adoption and hadn’t picked a name yet, and Kinney is the last name. When we picked Saoirse it was like I had that CHILLS moment that I had been waiting for- and thought I had with Ingrid- but didn’t get it until choosing Saoirse. It made me that much more desperate to feel it for a boy.
We liked [name_u]Morgan[/name_u], [name_u]Cary[/name_u], [name_m]Emile[/name_m], [name_m]Hugh[/name_m], [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], [name_m]Alaric[/name_m], [name_m]Roman[/name_m], [name_m]Ciaran[/name_m], and a few others not coming to mind at the moment. None were love though.
We wanted:
- strong and masculine
- traditional with a slight european feel
- gaelic- if possible- but not set on this as we don’t generally love Gaelic boys names
- soft and a touch of feminine appeal
Tall order!
Last night we finally chose [name_u]Gael[/name_u] and I finally had my chills moment. I have found it can be considered [name_m]French[/name_m] or it could be considered Irish meaning “A person of Gaelic origin”- which is the interpretation we’re going to go with
So official name: [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Gael[/name_m] [name_m]Morgan[/name_m] [name_m]Kinney[/name_m] - going by “[name_m]Gael[/name_m]”. Charles after my spouse (he too goes by his middle name tho), [name_u]Gael[/name_u] because we love it and it brings in that Gaelic touch for us, and Morgan because it’s a name we’ve always really admired.
Had to announce since I’ve posted a ton needing help!
(And I know we’ll get some people thinking it’s a girls name- but if you can tell by our list- we like a lot of names like that
)
Does anyone know how how to get rid of the colors in a post? They make it so hard to read!
Aw congratulations!
I’m still waiting for my ‘chills’ moment for our boy name.
[name_f]Happy[/name_f] you found yours!!
Thank you!!!
I honestly had given up and thought I would never find a name that mixed everything. But kept searching and there it was! [name_f]Hope[/name_f] you find yours too! Any top contenders?
Right now my favourite is [name_m]Knox[/name_m], but I still don’t know if it’s ‘the one’. We are due with our first at the end of [name_u]August[/name_u] and have picked the girl name, but the boy one is just so hard lol. The girl name is [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
I’m the exact same! Could name 100 girls! Almost no boys! [name_m]Knox[/name_m] is great! I always hesitate with one syllable names- but clearly I do love them (hence our choice).
And [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] is very beautiful
I think your in my Facebook group for gentle parenting. I’m sorry about your failed adoption, that happened to us last year and I was devastated but soon found out I was pregnant. I really like [name_u]Gael[/name_u] and also [name_m]Alistair[/name_m]. Good luck, hope you conceive little one quickly and that your heart is healed soon
Too funny- we are in that group together!
I am a huge nameberry nerd as well! Wow, I can’t believe you have such a similar story. Can I ask- as it domestic or international? I’m hoping we have the same luck as you!
And thank you for the seal of approval on [name_u]Gael[/name_u]- I’m totally loving it like crazy.
It was US foster adopt, we tried adopting a teen thinking we were done with babies. Her foster family changed their mind and decided to adopt in the end. This little one was a total surprise. So everything for a reason but still hard sometimes when you in the thick of it. Had we gone international we were planning on Ethiopia. So glad you going a name you both love, that can be so tough!
I freaking love both your names!
