I have a list!

Hello!

As I have mentioned in a previous thread, i’m pregnant with my 4th - a little brother or sister to [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], [name_f]Juno[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f] and [name_m]Felix[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. If he’s a boy he will be [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Hector[/name_m]/[name_m]Casper[/name_m]/[name_m]Wilbur[/name_m], but we have been struggling with girl’s names.

It’s ridiculously early in the morning, but I think I finally have a list of options and would love some feedback. I should point out that I’m aware some people think a lot about character length and syllables, but this isn’t really a concern for us. I’d rather choose a longer name we love than one we don’t love as much that fits a pattern (if that makes sense).

These first names are the top contenders although the middle names are interchangeable at the moment, I was just trying out the middles we are considering with the names we love

[name_f]Minerva[/name_f] [name_f]Leontine[/name_f] (nn.[name_f]Mina[/name_f])
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f] [name_f]Raphaela[/name_f] (nn.[name_m]Pip[/name_m]/[name_f]Pippa[/name_f])
[name_f]India[/name_f] [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] (nn.[name_f]Dido[/name_f] - this rhymes with [name_f]Iris[/name_f]’ nickname but I love it so much)
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] Pomellina (nn.[name_f]Aura[/name_f])

The names we like but my heart isn’t 100% sure (I think the first three are the best ‘fit’):

[name_f]Gaia[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_u]Hero[/name_u]
[name_f]Cosima[/name_f]
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]
[name_f]Allegra[/name_f]

And the names we like but seem misplaced against our other children’s names:

[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Clover[/name_f]
[name_f]Mable[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonore[/name_f]

(and the names we love but can’t/aren’t using are: [name_f]Luna[/name_f], [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] & [name_f]Kitty[/name_f])

Any feedback, suggestions, opinions would be appreciated! I feel like i’m losing my mind trying to decide!

I think [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] is perfect! I hadn’t thought of a good nickname for [name_f]Olympia[/name_f], but [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] is great. [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] shares the mythological connection with [name_f]Juno[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f], and [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] is adorably English and goes great with [name_m]Felix[/name_m]. Maybe [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] [name_f]Coraline[/name_f]?

Others I like are [name_f]Minerva[/name_f], [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] (but [name_f]Aura[/name_f] is too wordy to me), and [name_f]Cora[/name_f] if you figured out a cute nickname. I also like [name_f]Pomeline[/name_f] for a first if that’s on the table, maybe nn [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]? And if you still like [name_f]Kitty[/name_f]/[name_u]Kit[/name_u], [name_f]Kirstin[/name_f] could work as a full name.

I really like [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] and [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] here! A bit longer than your other daughter’s names but they still fit nicely.

Also just want to note that I love [name_m]Casper[/name_m] for your set!

I really like [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] and [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] here! A bit longer than your other daughter’s names but they still fit nicely. [name_f]Gaia[/name_f] and [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] work great too!

Also just want to note that I love [name_m]Casper[/name_m] for your set!

The standout for me is [name_f]Olympia[/name_f]/[name_m]Pip[/name_m]/[name_f]Pippa[/name_f] - sounds great and great with your family. I also really like [name_f]Raphaela[/name_f] and think they sound good together. Other options though are [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] [name_u]Hero[/name_u], [name_f]Leontine[/name_f] or [name_f]Clover[/name_f]. My 2nd choice would be [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] [name_f]Leontine[/name_f] - again I think it works well as a combo and with your family. I’m not such a fan of [name_f]India[/name_f] or [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]. From your other lists I like [name_f]Cosima[/name_f], [name_f]Allegra[/name_f] and [name_f]Clover[/name_f].

I’ll be honest - your misplaced list is actually the ones that go best with your kids. [name_m]Felix[/name_m] & [name_f]Iris[/name_f] are two classic , British feeling names and the couple of people I’ve heard use [name_f]Juno[/name_f] were British (paging @katinka) and it’s not that far out. The other names sound way too long and fanciful. Out of your list I like [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] , [name_f]India[/name_f] & [name_f]Cora[/name_f] the best and I like the suggestion of [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] (but just [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] not [name_f]Olympia[/name_f])

Combo ideas -

[name_f]Pippa[/name_f] [name_f]Leonore[/name_f]
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f] [name_f]Allegra[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Leonore[/name_f]
[name_f]India[/name_f] [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]

Other suggestion -

[name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] (Too popular?)
[name_u]Eloise[/name_u] [name_f]Allegra[/name_f]
[name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Celia[/name_f] [name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Millie[/name_f] Cosmia
[name_f]Lola[/name_f] [name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]
[name_f]Louise[/name_f] [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] nn “[name_u]Lou[/name_u]”
[name_f]Mae[/name_f] [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Etta[/name_f] [name_f]Leonore[/name_f]
[name_f]Belle[/name_f] [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Lana[/name_f] [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]
[name_f]Maisie[/name_f] Cosmia

Out of the above list I like [name_f]Lana[/name_f] [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] , [name_f]Lola[/name_f] [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] , [name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] and most of [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] [name_f]Leonore[/name_f] for you (If you are worried [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] on it’s own is too cutesy to work then let me soothe your worry with the fact that I have know a couple of just Pippas in my life and they’ve all worn it beautifully).

I actually think [name_f]Clover[/name_f] sounds amazing with your other kids.

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f], [name_f]Juno[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_m]Felix[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] & [name_f]Clover[/name_f] [name_f]Leontine[/name_f]? [name_f]India[/name_f] [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] is dreamy!

[name_u]Sage[/name_u], [name_f]Thora[/name_f], [name_u]Seren[/name_u], [name_f]Violet[/name_f] & [name_f]Thea[/name_f] sound nice in the group as well.

[name_f]Minerva[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] “[name_f]Mina[/name_f]”
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f] [name_u]Vesper[/name_u]
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] “[name_f]Aura[/name_f]”
[name_f]Cosima[/name_f] [name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] “[name_u]Del[/name_u]”/"[name_f]Della[/name_f]"/"[name_f]Fina[/name_f]"
[name_f]Thora[/name_f] [name_u]Vesper[/name_u]
[name_f]Rhea[/name_f] [name_f]Leonore[/name_f]
[name_f]Thea[/name_f] [name_f]Selene[/name_f]
[name_u]Seren[/name_u] [name_f]Olympia[/name_f]
[name_f]Theodora[/name_f] [name_u]Sage[/name_u] “[name_f]Thea[/name_f]”
Hespera [name_f]Clover[/name_f] “Espie”

[name_f]Maia[/name_f]
[name_u]Nike[/name_u]
[name_f]Nyx[/name_f]
[name_f]Thalia[/name_f]

I think with [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_f]Juno[/name_f] as sisters it would only be fair to give her [name_f]Minerva[/name_f], another goddess name or something related like [name_f]Olympia[/name_f]? The nickname [name_f]Mina[/name_f] is cute, sweet and so pretty; ages well, and sounds great with [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Juno[/name_f] & [name_m]Felix[/name_m]. [name_f]Mina[/name_f] and [name_f]Flick[/name_f] I love [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] and [name_f]India[/name_f] [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] and maybe Hespera [name_f]Clover[/name_f].

If you have a boy [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Casper[/name_m] is soo Handsome!! [name_m]Casper[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] sounds just as nice too and maybe better with your other kids. Such beautiful names!! Good luck

Thank you for the feedback everyone!

808 - I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. My concern is giving her a name that doesn’t have the history and meaning of her sister’s and then ultimately feeling left out or not as special. I love [name_f]Clover[/name_f], and if she was a sister to [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Kitty[/name_f] then I would be sold, but [name_f]Clover[/name_f] as a sister to [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_f]Juno[/name_f] feels a little off to me.

I like [name_f]Maia[/name_f] but could be confused with [name_f]Mia[/name_f] which is very popular right now.

I’m also starting to think about [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] ([name_f]Mimi[/name_f]?), [name_f]Leda[/name_f] and [name_f]Hebe[/name_f], although I’m not sure how much I actually like them, or if i’m just feeling a bit desperate.

I think [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] is our front runner for now, although I do still love [name_f]Minerva[/name_f].

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you not like [name_f]Cora[/name_f] nn [name_f]Coco[/name_f]? I think that fits really well with your set - a historically established first, not terribly unheard of, with a spunky, unexpected nn!
I do think [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] is nice, really all of your choices are nice! (And [name_m]Pim[/name_m] is a cute nn too!) [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] seems the outlier for me - I’ve never met a [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] in real life, but as a teacher I can tell you there are a plethora of [name_f]Mia[/name_f], [name_f]Mila[/name_f], [name_f]Mina[/name_f], [name_f]Maia[/name_f], Mayli, etc…names in use, already. So - that seems the opposite of your current set - a very unusual first with a much more common nn.
I do think [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] seems sort of like a nice mix - not unheard of, but still historically wowing (the cosmos, and all!) while the nns are plentiful - [name_f]Mim[/name_f], [name_f]Coco[/name_f], Cosy, [name_f]Sima[/name_f].
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you have one nn you particularly love? Seems like you can meld a nn to almost anything, and that is one of my favorite things about names! [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] wit’s nn [name_f]Delphi[/name_f] seems prett great, too. I just met a little girl (3 years old) named [name_f]Delphine[/name_f], so it’s out there, and I reckon you could even do [name_f]Dido[/name_f] as a nn if you wanted. ([name_f]Io[/name_f] and [name_f]Dido[/name_f] seem a mouthful but both very cute!) [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_u]Vesper[/name_u]? [name_f]Vespa[/name_f] seems like such a cool nn for a girl to me - or even Spree/Espirit! [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] meaning, historical, strong, no-nonsense (kind of like [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_f]Juno[/name_f], to me). Lately I’ve been liking [name_f]Keziah[/name_f], which is an old Hebrew word for cinnamon! I just think it’s spicy (ha ha!) truly though it was used by the puritans a lot, and I was just teaching about the spice trade and how much that changed the world! Anyway - that’s probably not what you’re going for but [name_f]Kizzy[/name_f] seems so great with your other nns! Maybe [name_f]Kerenza[/name_f], nn [name_f]Kizzy[/name_f]!
Anyway - good luck! Your choice will be fabulous, I’m certain!

I do like [name_f]Cora[/name_f], but I just don’t love it. I do like the idea of [name_f]Coco[/name_f] as a nn for Cosmia though. And I like the idea of [name_f]Delphi[/name_f]/[name_f]Dido[/name_f] for [name_f]Delphine[/name_f].

I’m not a huge fan of [name_u]Vesper[/name_u] mainly because it makes me think of [name_f]Vespa[/name_f] scooters. Thank you for your suggestions though!

I think [name_f]Cora[/name_f] is a fabulous match with [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Juno[/name_f], and [name_m]Felix[/name_m]!

[name_f]India[/name_f] [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] is just stunning!

I know I already commented on this and despite what I said about her sharing a name with a similar history as her sister’s names, I can’t stop thinking about [name_f]India[/name_f] [name_f]Theodora[/name_f]! It reminds me of like an old treasure map or wooden ship and history and spice markets! Despite [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_f]India[/name_f] sharing the I letter (not the sound tho) yet being of totally different styles I think they sound surprisingly great together. I even Like the combination [name_f]India[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f]. [name_f]Juno[/name_f] lends itself to a lot in my mind, as does [name_m]Felix[/name_m] with girl’s names. Sorry for commenting twice I just really love your kids names and am invested now haha

I like ‘[name_f]Pippa[/name_f]’ [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] and this name sounds like a natural fit for your family.

[name_f]Cosima[/name_f] and [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] also stand out to me from your list of other options.

Of your first list, I really like [name_f]India[/name_f] [name_f]Theodora[/name_f]…for me it “fits” best w/your other children’s names.

Rather than [name_f]Minerva[/name_f], perhaps [name_f]Athena[/name_f] nn [name_f]Thea[/name_f]? [name_f]Athena[/name_f] [name_f]Leontine[/name_f]?

Of the second list, my favorite is [name_f]Delphine[/name_f]. [name_f]Delphi[/name_f] would be a cute nickname that goes well w/the Greek mythology theme of your other girls’ names. [name_f]Gaia[/name_f] would also work well but I worry about potential teasing & mispronunciations (although perhaps children aren’t as cruel about names as they were when I was a kid). Other Greek mythology names: [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], [name_f]Anthea[/name_f], [name_f]Danae[/name_f], or [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f]…?

I love [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] as a nickname to fit w/your other children’s names, but I’m less crazy about [name_f]Olympia[/name_f]. For me it seems way “heavier” than [name_f]Iris[/name_f] & [name_f]Juno[/name_f]. While I’m not usually a nickname-as-given-name person, this is one case where [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] might work better than any of the longer & more formal names like [name_f]Philippa[/name_f]. This might be too out there, but perhaps Epona, the horse goddess from Celtic & [name_m]Gallo[/name_m]-[name_m]Roman[/name_m] mythology, might work w/the nn [name_f]Pippa[/name_f]?

I agree that the last list of names don’t seem to go well w/your other children’s names. If you’re thinking about a nature-related name, [name_f]Silvie[/name_f]/[name_f]Silvia[/name_f] means “woods, forest,” & actually has a mythological connection: [name_f]Rhea[/name_f] [name_f]Silvia[/name_f] was the mother of [name_m]Remus[/name_m] & [name_m]Romulus[/name_m]. And in thinking of the name [name_f]Rhea[/name_f], I’m reminded of a long-ago book in which the heroine was named [name_f]Rhea[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f].

Anyway, good luck & please let us know what you decide!

I know it’s not on your top favourites list, but [name_f]Gaia[/name_f] is just such a winner here for me! It’s got the punch, history and weight of your other kids’ names, but still feels fresh, simple and modern.

[name_f]Gaia[/name_f] [name_f]Leontine[/name_f], [name_f]Gaia[/name_f] [name_f]Pomeline[/name_f] or [name_f]Gaia[/name_f] [name_f]Leonore[/name_f] would be especially gorgeous.

Your top choices all feel a little bit elaborate to me with your other names, but they’re beautiful too. My personal favourite combo of those is [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] [name_f]Leontine[/name_f] (I’m not a lover of two a-ending names together, generally speaking), but I definitely prefer [name_f]Gaia[/name_f] with your set!

I don’t think [name_f]Maia[/name_f] would be much confused with [name_f]Mia[/name_f], though people may spell it as [name_f]Maya[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Juno[/name_f], [name_m]Felix[/name_m], and [name_f]India[/name_f]! Like someone said before, [name_f]India[/name_f] [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] has a “treasure map” feel to it which I love.

[name_f]May[/name_f] I suggest [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] (don’t know if it’s been suggested already, sorry)? Nicknames could be [name_m]Artie[/name_m] (squeal!!!), [name_f]Emmie[/name_f], [name_f]Missie[/name_f], [name_f]Amy[/name_f], etc. Only problem is it kind of has a similar ending to [name_m]Felix[/name_m]. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t know if that’s a problem.

[name_f]Olympia[/name_f] is a really “big” name in my opinion (in sound, history, connotation, etc), but [name_f]Pippa[/name_f] is absolutely adorable! I love [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f], and maybe [name_f]Aurelie[/name_f] could work for you too. I love the previous suggestion of [name_f]Athena[/name_f] as an alternative for [name_f]Minerva[/name_f].

I keep coming back to your threads since your style is so fun. [name_m]Just[/name_m] wanted to suggest [name_f]Della[/name_f] or [name_u]Dell[/name_u] as a nickname for [name_f]Delphine[/name_f]. Maybe [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] or [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] [name_f]Isadora[/name_f]?

Thank you for your suggestions everyone!

I have to say, I do really love [name_f]India[/name_f] [name_f]Theodora[/name_f]. While it doesn’t have the goddess connection, it does hold a lot of meaning to us as [name_f]India[/name_f] is a country we love and have visited many times. I think [name_f]India[/name_f] might be our ‘compromise’ name. It really seems between [name_f]Olympia[/name_f] and [name_f]India[/name_f]. As much as I love [name_f]Mina[/name_f], I think [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] is a bit too clunky and I wouldn’t want to use [name_f]Mina[/name_f] on it’s own. Same with [name_f]Delphine[/name_f], I adore [name_f]Delphi[/name_f] as a nickname and while I love [name_f]Delphine[/name_f], the whole name doesn’t feel right with the others.

I think that ultimately there are a lot of names I like, but few that I love that ‘feel right’. I do feel like we’re making progress though!

And just like that, i’ve changed my mind and am suddenly obsessing over [name_f]Clio[/name_f]/[name_f]Cleo[/name_f]!

[name_f]Leontine[/name_f] has long been a favourite of mine, partly as I love the idea of [name_m]Leo[/name_m] as a nn on a little girl. Last night my husband mentioned [name_m]Leo[/name_m] as a nn for [name_f]Clio[/name_f]/[name_f]Cleo[/name_f] and it’s completely changed my mind. I don’t know why I didn’t think about it before. I like the simplicity of the name and the options for [name_m]Leo[/name_m] or [name_f]Coco[/name_f] as nicknames.

I prefer the [name_f]Clio[/name_f] spelling for the meaning/history, but [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] for the way it looks and the ease of [name_m]Leo[/name_m] as a nn.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] when I thought we were making progress, we’re back to a brand new name!
