I have Kota Daisuke for my American son. Opinions?

Daisuke: (pronounced “DYE-skay”)

I don’t think the middle name matters much at all: it’s not used much, people have all sorts of interesting middle names and it’s almost a private matter. I have a hard time forming much of an opinion on Daisuke because I feel like it’s hard to evaluate names I have no cultural familiarity with.

Kota is cool and could fit in enough because of its similarity to [name]Dakota[/name]. At the same time, [name]Dakota[/name] is uni, just like Kota has a uni sound, and [name]Dakota[/name] to me was kind of a very trendy name whose prime has already past, so Kota might evoke all of that.

If none of that bothers you, you’re good! If it does, you might keep looking.

I can see [name]Cody[/name]/[name]Kody[/name] as a nickname btw, for better or worse depending on your taste.

All best!

Also keep in mind if the prn of the t in Kota matters a lot to you, that in American accents it’s going to inevitably sound a lot like [name]Koda[/name]/Coda much of the time.

I would never have guessed that is the pronunciation for Daisuke. But if it bears importance to you (family or cultural?), I understand how that could trump the pronunciation dilemma, and one’s middle name isn’t said/read out loud very often…

I think it’s a very interesting name! I was saying Daisuke as DYE-sukay with the U making a barely there sound, if it matters to you how other people are pronouncing it. Kota is a cool name in my opinion. I’m afraid, though, that people might assume that Kota is a nickname for [name]Dakota[/name] or, as a pp said, say it to where it sounds like [name]Koda[/name]. When I say it, I hit the T hard so that it is very clearing Kota. I don’t think a lot of people do that.

Altogether though, if none of that bothers you, I think it’s a very interesting and cool name.
