I have some questions

I’m just curious on some names I’ve been seeing so =

  1. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_m]Bodhi[/name_m] is only okay if you are Buddhist or is it open for all?
  2. Is Cosby tainted by [name_m]Bill[/name_m] Cosby?
  3. Is [name_m]Oswald[/name_m] too tied to [name_u]Lee[/name_u] [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] [name_m]Oswald[/name_m]?
  4. [name_m]How[/name_m] tied is a bad namesake tied to a name for you?
  1. I would say [name_m]Bodhi[/name_m] is fine - I didn’t even realise it had any ties to Buddhism. I suppose it makes sense now that you say it, but I wouldn’t have made the connection.
  2. I think the [name_m]Bill[/name_m] Cosby connection is too strong, at least for now. Maybe next generation…
  3. I wouldn’t associate [name_m]Oswald[/name_m] with [name_u]Lee[/name_u] [name_m]Harvey[/name_m] [name_m]Oswald[/name_m].
  4. It depends on the namesake - Cosby is too much I feel, but if it was [name_m]Bill[/name_m] it’s so well established there would be no association whatsoever.
  1. I think [name_m]Bodhi[/name_m] is pretty usable regardless of what religion or culture you are a part of. I’ve been noticing this name being used a lot more, with none of the parents being Buddhist. Many like the peaceful or bohemian feel of it. It’s even growing on me, and I’m [name_m]Christian[/name_m] (and would have no qualms on using it).

  2. I’m not too fond of Cosby as a first name, and it does remind me of [name_m]Bill[/name_m], but I don’t consider it tainted at all. Mr. Cosby is a famous bearer of this name, but surely not the only one.

  3. Nope! If I may be quite honest, humans tend to have very short attention spans…and that situation, while it did have a huge impact on our country, is rather far from something people think about every day. Many people, I’d wager, especially younger ones, likely wouldn’t even know who he was. Heck, I asked my brother-in-law, aged 14, who [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Wilkes[/name_m] [name_m]Booth[/name_m] was, and all I got was a blank stare. [name_m]Oswald[/name_m] reminds me more a cartoon I saw awhile back, featuring a blue octopus named [name_m]Oswald[/name_m]. It was a pretty neat show

  4. It depends on the name and on the situation. For instance, I was abused as a child and could never use the name of that person. I was also bullied by a girl named [name_f]Emily[/name_f], and really love the name. Then there are names, like Adoph, which are rather tainted and for good reason…it dealt with more of a societal issue than a individual one. Anyhow…if a name is more popular and I know more than one person with that name, I’m liable to not let that name be so ruined for me, which is why I think I have a much better attitude towards the name [name_f]Emily[/name_f], rather than the name of my abuser, which causes me deep pain even when that name is merely mentioned. It’s kind of complicated and hard to explain, but that’s my side of it.
