✨ I haven’t done one of these in a while

I’m back with another Convince Me!

If you’re unfamiliar with these, I’ll post below some names on my list that I’m considering and undecided about. Today’s theme is names I love that don’t have combos—yet. I want to figure out which names are worthy of pairings!

Pick a couple names (1-5 is probably ideal!) that you feel strongly about, whether it’s love or hate, and convince me either on why the name should be bestowed the honor of a middle name or why it should burn in the fiery hellfires of hell. I don’t terribly mind if it’s a brutal appeal.

I’ll pick some that I feel like I can explain my feelings on

[name_f]Mabli[/name_f] - okay, so of course I’m going to be a big fan on this. It has the cute, warmth and loveable meaning of [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] but it’s less popular, a little more bubbly than cosy, a little more rugged round the edges. It’s fun and I like the nn [name_f]Mab[/name_f] (as a kind of [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] reference :))

Zosime - I think this name is so fun and zippy, while also retaining a level of elegance. It’s slightly mystical, very intriguing and very distinct - I like the nn options too - Zozy, [name_f]Simi[/name_f], [name_f]Mimi[/name_f], [name_u]Zo[/name_u] - it’s just a really cool name

[name_u]Atlas[/name_u] - ah, [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] has a kind of magic to it. There’s something so ethereal about it, something expansive and bright. I know the mythology is a little heavy, but it also has a light, airy feel to me.

[name_f]Ismay[/name_f] - I like the names [name_f]Isadora[/name_f], Isabel/la, and [name_f]Esme[/name_f] and [name_f]Ismay[/name_f] combines them all into a sharp, distinct name of its own. I like spins on more familiar names and [name_f]Ismay[/name_f] is no exception. It looks so cool too.

[name_u]Ollie[/name_u] - If I find it bland and boring for a boy, I generally find it the same for a girl and with [name_u]Ollie[/name_u], that’s the case. Too tied to Olivia/Oliver for me and lacks the spark and substance of your other names

[name_f]Ismay[/name_f] - I’m sorry, but this sounds like Pig Latin. Also, if you add a d to the front you end up with dismay. You may be dismayed to hear it, but I don’t care for this one.

[name_f]Blythe[/name_f] - this name sounds like it has a lisp. It’s very blunt, inelegant, and awkward looking.

[name_f]Poem[/name_f] - I think it’s very cute, and what could be more poetic than a poem? I’d prefer it for a middle name, a sweet surprise following a more familiar first name.

[name_f]Azula[/name_f] - I love the vowels in this name, and it has resonances with azure and alluring. Makes me think of lying in a hammock strung between two palm trees overlooking white sands on the Azore Islands.

[name_f]Saskia[/name_f] - She’s sparkly and strong and a lil magical. Reminds me of polar bears and northern lights and warrior princesses. The one I know goes by [name_f]Kia[/name_f] but you could also do [name_f]Sassy[/name_f] which is too cute.

[name_f]Reverie[/name_f] - [name_f]Beautiful[/name_f] sound, beautiful meaning. I love word names that aren’t like everyday words, you know? It’s a special, poetic word. I think this one would make a particularly good middle name because of the syllable count.

[name_f]Mabli[/name_f] - Echoing @Greyblue here, there’s just something so bubbly and warm about [name_f]Mabli[/name_f]. I also think she’s versatile and fits with lots of different styles. She’s approachable, but unexpected.

I am not a particular brave namer so my opinions might not be much help.

Ones I think work ok as first name:
[name_f]Freyja[/name_f]
[name_f]Saskia[/name_f]
[name_u]Atlas[/name_u]
[name_f]Ismay[/name_f]
[name_u]Indie[/name_u]
[name_f]Blythe[/name_f]
Adèle( my favourite of your list. Such an elegant beautiful name!)
[name_u]Ollie[/name_u]
[name_u]Piper[/name_u]
[name_f]Reyna[/name_f]

Ones I think would be best in the middle spot:
Zosime
[name_f]Azula[/name_f]
Lylou
[name_f]Mabli[/name_f]
[name_f]Luz[/name_f]
[name_f]Poem[/name_f]
[name_u]Rivers[/name_u]
[name_f]Reverie[/name_f]
[name_f]Runa[/name_f]
[name_m]Sashka[/name_m]
[name_f]Sidonie[/name_f]
[name_u]Sterling[/name_u]
[name_f]Whimsy[/name_f]

For whatever reason, Ismay feels like the epitome of an Abby name to me. I think it’s probably the style and look/letters. It’s just one of the names I could easily imagine you using one day, and has been for awhile.

I was not a fan when I first saw you mentioning this spelling. It seemed unnecessary and confusing to me. I didn’t even realize my opinion had changed, until I few days ago I was writing the name and I saw I had written Lylou instead of Lilou. Somewhere along the line I have done a switch, and really appreciate the eclecticness of Lylou. The y adds a spunk to Lilou’s sleek feel.

I feel like Reyna (all spellings) is an underrated name. It has a nature feel, and fits in with all the two syllable -a ending name. Reyna feels like such a flexible name. A name that would suit any personality or person, any age. It’s one of those names that goes well with so many other names.

To me, Sidonie has always felt like an unnecessary elaboration of Sidney | Sydney, but not an improvement. I realize that they aren’t related, but they definitely come across that way. Sidonie doesn’t feel like a distinctive or stand out name, like most of the rest of your list. I also hear Donnie when I hear this name, which is an unattractive boy name, imo.

Freyja : Freyja is a gorgeous name! I love the sound of it, and just the unexpectedness of it, if that makes any sense. While I personally prefer it without the j, I definitely see the appeal of spelling it this way, and wouldn’t bat an eye if I saw it on my class roster.
Ismay : I do not get this name at all. It looks, feels, and sounds made up to me, even though I know it’s a real name. I just, ugh.
Azula : I love the sound of Azula, but she was a villain in Avatar The Last Airbender, which may be my second favorite TV Show of all time. So I can’t get past her cruelty.
Piper : Piper is absolutely adorable! It’s cute and fun, and I just picture a Piper as an amazing outgoing person who is awesome to be around. With the popularity factor out there, it’s perfect to throw into the middle name spot, which is what I did with my own sweet daughter (she’s named Piper for an episode of The X-Files). And she’s sixteen now, but we have always called her Piper sometimes because we love the name so much.
Reyna : Gorgeous underused name. It’s so pretty, yet strong at the same time. I wish it got more love!
Whimsy : I love the idea of the name Whimsy, but it real life it feels like such fluff. Like naming your kid Honey or Baby.

Luz - This name sounds so abrupt to me. It is also feels cold and modern, which just isn’t appealing to me. I think Azula, which is already on your list, is a better alternative.

Mabli - So spunky and sweet! It is fun and cute while still sounding like a legitimate name that someone could grow up with.

Rivers - Ok, I like the vibe of this, but I have one concern. Any time that you are talking about something that belongs to Rivers, you will have to say “Rivers’ toy.” It just sounds more complicated than it needs to be. This is probably just a personal pet peeve, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

I’ll go ahead and just list some of my favorites now. I don’t have much to say about them, other than they sound beautiful and roll off the tongue well:
Freyja, Ismay, Reyna, Reverie, Runa.

atlas - it has such a fun, playful feel that fits perfectly with the swashbuckling, adventurous flair of your names. i love the geographical connection to it and the versatility. it feels like the great outdoors, which is perfect. though the mythological ties are heavy, i think on a girl, it’s more tied to maps, giving it a lighter connotation.

lylou - recently, i’ve fallen for all the -lou names it seems, or really any name with a “lou” in it! :sob: lylou has a fresh, zippy feel that rolls right off of your tongue. the “y” in it adds an angular look to the name, which i quite like. it could be a full name or a nickname, and i love the youthfulness that brings.

saskia - this name is all sharp sounds, which i love. in surprised it’s not the protagonist of some fantasy series with the mixture of frilliness and sharpness of the name. it’s easy to say and has a lovely flow, bringing to mind icy, fairytale vibes.

runa - i love runa, with warm, autumn vibes—candlelight, falling leaves, and thick sweaters. it has an ethereal feel to it while also remaining grounded. with its scandinavian roots and similarity to the word rune, it feels straight out of a storybook or disney movie, and i love the familiarity of it by sounding so similar to luna, while also being unique and unexpected.

sashka - this name is so soft, but the “k” adds a strong flair to it. that being said, i do prefer it as a nickname. however, full name in mind, it has a very cozy feel to it—sunny days and bright beach towels. with it being so similar to sasha, it has some level of familiarity, but is completely different, making it easy to wear.

Atlas-I usually prefer this for boys but I can’t tell you how happy I’d be to meet a little girl named Atlas. It’s such a strong name and it’s similarity to Alice helps it feel even more usable on a girl. I imagine a little girl named Atlas a spunky one.

Indie-This one is in my top 10. She’s so sweet and friendly but she’s still spunky. She fits perfectly with modern trends like Ellie and Ivy.

Blythe-This one has grown on me a lot. It’s short and simple but it still packs a lot of punch. It has a vintage feel and I love the happy meaning.

Mabli-Mabli’s just such a sweet and bubly sounding name. She is a unique name but she is still familiar through more popular Mabel.

Sashka-This one just feels like it’s trying too hard. It sounds made up. Maybe a pet name for Sasha or Saskia but Sashka is a no. It also sounds like a kind of food?
